About this property

PRIVATE beach, boats, acreage, pets, Sleeping Bear Dunes

EaglePine- A retreat setting with a unique, fully equipped cedar cabin on 6 acres nestled in the woods of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Offering the ultimate in privacy with 600ft of sandy Long Lk, private peninsula, southern exposure, sunrises & sunsets, boats, fire pits, horseshoes, & bikes. Located well off the main road, tucked between 10 acre parcels assures safety & quietude. A path to the water (350 ft) meanders over boardwalks and soft mulch through a wildlife corridor leading to an outdoor living space offering shelter from the sun. A few steps farther is the lakeshore which is ideal for adults and children-- the sand is hard-packed & water shallow. The cottage is not bare-bones stripped of its character. We bring the "outdoors in" with deer mounts, moose antlers, pelts, & local artwork. The screened porch is perfect to read in a wicker chair, play cards at the table or just listen to the hummingbirds. We include other creature comforts such as comfy beds, modern appliances, WIFI, satellite, on-demand hot water, and a wood stove for cool summer evenings.

Our family and friends love EaglePine for it's privacy, quietude, peaceful lake, wildlife, and of course... Sleeping Bear Dunes which is a half mile away. However, we know civilization is literally around the corner with Frankfort and Honor 15-20 minutes away!

Best vacation rental ever

Eagle pine is a wonderful, magical place. And this was my second time here, and it was even more wonderful than the first. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay at your home away from home.

Owners were very helpful and considerate.

Loved our stay at Eagle Pine. From the solitude and peacefulness of the property...to the charming interior of the cabin. Our party enjoyed the cabin immensely. Susan was very thoughtful and kind.

Great escape in the north woods

EaglePine was a fantastic cabin with lots for the kids and parents to do both on-site and in the area. Our only disappointments were that not all the beds had sheets and no wifi.

Great getaway

We really enjoyed our week at this property. Everything was clean and the property itself was absolutely gorgeous. My husband and son enjoyed paddling around the lake while I reclined on the dock with our two dogs. The swings were a huge hit as well as the fire pit. We’ve had several people ask us for the listing after seeing our fun photos from our trip.

Eagle Pine is the Best, by far

If you enjoy being in the woods and simple pleasures like sunsets, campfires, spotting wildlife, and relaxing under the night sky then you will love this property. We have rented many cabins in Northern Michigan, but this is the best, by far. To top it off, the hosts make the cabin feel like a familiar weekend home. We had friends come by to visit, and they could not stop raving about cozy and wonderful this cabin is. We hope to return again, and again. Five stars is not a high enough rating.

Perfect

Our stay at Eagle Pine was just what we wanted. The property is beautiful. We enjoyed the little walk to the lake and all the toys provided; kayaks, paddle board, canoe, row boat. Eagle pine is well stocked with toys of all kinds for the young and not as young. It is secluded which we love. There is no wifi but we got used to it. Used our hotspot when we needed to and otherwise stayed unplugged. We both read a book from the Elwell's library. Our dog was in heaven. She ran and swam yet figured out the property fast as to how much she could wander. We were impressed. The feeling of family warmth and love permeates Eagle Pine and I hope to be back again.

Away from it all yet minutes from everything

I've been coming to this area for 40-some years and EaglePine has the perfect location. Long Lake is serene and filled with wildlife. Though secluded in the woods, EaglePine is only a quick walk to the north shore where you can bask in the morning light and watch the beautiful Michigan sun go down. The property has everything you need and for those few housekeeping items they don't the Owner's do an excellent job of communicating to you ahead of your arrival. The feeling you get when you stay here is exactly what you hope for for a family vacation. The place is obviously well loved and enjoyed by the Owners. It's perfect place for a young family to run around and explore. Our baby turned 20 mos during our stay and he learned so many new words during our week. Each morning he would get his shoes and say 'hike big water' and head to the door. He loved the path and boardwalk to the beach and trying the kayaks and sand toys and collecting sticks to make a fort like the boys had. His room was cozy and filled with woodland friends (stuffed animals) to keep him company at night. The loft area game room had enough new things to explore that it kept him busy everyday. We didn't need to pack any toys. My husband and I enjoyed the horse shoes, hammock, fire pit and tiered deck (and I enjoyed the outdoor shower). When we wanted to get out for the day for a hike at the Old Indian Trail, groceries in Frankfort or run up to Sleeping Bear dunes it was an easy quick drive. EaglePine is obviously a wonderful place for young families but my husband and I kept saying how romantic it would be to come here again as a couple. There really is something for everyone here. The rental rate is a wonderful value when you consider the amenities, location and the positive experience of dealing with the Owners. We hope so much to be back. As I write this in mid-September, I'm not surprised to see they are already filling dates for next summer. You won't be disappointed.

Magically Perfect for a Family

Eagle Pine is spectacular! It was a wonderful place to take our three kids and stay while we explored Sleeping Bear and the surrounding areas. The toys Sue supplies were fantastic for all three of our different aged children. The kayaks were a blast for all of us even in the chill of fall. The property itself is magical being nestled in large trees and away from neighbors. The lake is gorgeous! We saw the bald eagle, a few black squirrels and a group of deer. Sue is a wonderful communicator and so knowledgeable about the local area. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

For Lovers of Dogs and Nature

This cabin is paradise for those who enjoy the outdoors. The property is beautiful, and it's easy to see that it would be in any season. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more - the 4 adults in our party or our 2 dogs, who spent lots of time off leash romping through the tall grasses and splashing in the clear, shallow lake. The outdoor dog baths were convenient and appreciated. The entire rental process was simple, communication and directions perfect. The cabin was clean, cozy and comfortable. As others have said, our only regret was that we didn't book more days.

Perfect weekend getaway

The property is absolutely stunning! Easy access to Sleeping Bear and the lakeshore, but so beautiful on its own that it was hard to leave to explore outside the property. Quiet mornings on the dock or the screened porch, listening to the call of birds; afternoons playing at the lake using all the provided toys/kayaks/paddle boards. Just lovely, couldn’t ask for a better spot to accommodate our very active, nature loving family!

Beautiful private getaway!

This property provides a very unique opportunity to get away from it all in a very secluded setting both around the cabin and at the waterfront. Our college-age kids and their friends loved using the watercraft on a smaller lake that was not overpowering. The cabin itself has plenty of room for a group to spread out with open spaces, nice decks, and a screen room. It is very well appointed with everything you would need for the inside and outside activities. The property is right inside the south end of Sleeping Bear Dunes so all of the park activities were very convenient. The property is very dog friendly and we took full advantage of the dog shower every day.

Terrific week at Eagle Pine

We had a wonderful week at Eagle Pine cottage. The property was as advertised: secluded and wooded and the path to the beach was serene. The lakefront was sandy, shallow and warm. We enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming every day. At night we had fires and s’mores at the cottage fire pit. The cottage itself was clean and cozy. The outdoor shower is also a perfect place to relax and rinse off before heading in for the night. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you, Susan!

This was a hidden treasure! Kinda don't want everyone to know about it!

What a treasure! This place was a dream come true. It was fun to hang out at the house, play games, do puzzles, walk down to the lake and use all the toys they have there. Our dog absolutely loved it. The outdoor dog and even human showers were so fun to have. The house was close to the sand dunes and Lake Michigan. But honestly if you didn't want to venture out, you didn't have to. I feel very blessed to be able to stay at this place. Or two boys, ages 12 and 14, Loved it too. They kept talking about wanting to move in!!! Couldn't recommend this place enough.

I didn’t want to leave!!

This property was wonderful! The cabin was cozy and welcoming. The windows overlooked a heavily wooded paradise. It was chilly, but we enjoyed every minute of being outside. Walking to the lake, watching the birds, even a bald eagle!! Just sitting and enjoying the scenery! The water was crystal clear and there was a small peninsula for the dog to run and play. It was quiet, peaceful and serene. I was able to see some of the fun water crafts for the summer guests. Paddle boards, a row boat, a canoe, kayaks. There was something to do everywhere at this location! We loved it and we hope to go back!

Best vacation rental ever

If I could give this place 100 stars I would. It is beautiful. This is the family vacation home of the owners, and I am amazed that they are willing to share it with the rest of us we so enjoyed the property, the cabin, and especially the lakefront. And needless to say, our dogs had a blast. And oh yes - The outdoor hot water dog bath area is a real plus that we made good use of!.

Fantastic Rental!

We just got home from our week at Eagle Pine and we miss it already…it’s a fantastic up north cottage with everything you’d ever want! We kayaked, canoed and paddle boarded, saw egrets, herons, sand hill cranes and a bald eagle! Beautiful property, great beach front, great up north cabin, fire pits, horseshoes…the works! Great place for families…lots to do in the area if you even want to leave the property. The Elwells were very easy to work with and very accomodating…no complaints other than we have to wait a year to go back!!
