Great Potential…Not There Yet
We arrived at the property to find a dead car in the driveway. I was crossing my fingers that would be the only issue. When we opened the door we were greeted by the smell of stale cigarette smoke, mostly coming from the kitchen cabinets. Patches in the kitchen remain unpainted. Mildew smell in the en-suite bathroom and mold in the grout. I wish I had taken pictures, but we left in a bit of a rush. We got back to the house at 10:30 to find the ac stopped working sometime during the day. After a long day in the Central Valley heat, rather than wait for it to be fixed and the house to cool down, which is what the property owner felt we should have done, we packed up and headed home. It ended up being a clogged filter. If it was so clogged it stopped the airflow completely, when was the last time it was changed?
Living room is cute. The rest of the house decor is cute but cheap and flimsy. Dishes and flatware are plastic, “reusable and washable” according to the owner but still plastic. Many of the dishes still have stickers on them, which begs the question, “Were they washed before going in the cabinet?”
The house has a long way to go to be worth what she is charging per night but if she can set her pride aside and deal with the maintenance issues, this will be a great place to stay. It’s not there yet and way overpriced because of the issues with the home that she has not addressed, but it has Great Potential. (I tried to explain these items to the owner privately, but she felt my issues constituted a difference in opinion on decor. Stale cigarette smell, poorly maintained HVAC, a dead car in the driveway, and mold and mildew are not a difference in opinion on decor.)
