Enter the NEWLY RENOVATED LAZY BOWEN HIDEAWAY to a breathtaking Ocean view through 30’ of glass. This DOG-Friendly, Professionally Designed, 1200 sq’ home has 2 Bedrooms with 1 Bathroom. Maximum occupancy is 4 guests.

The LAZY BOWEN HIDEAWAY is the self-contained, top floor of the duplex, and separate from the LAZY B WATERFRONT SUITE. All entrances, decks, and interior spaces are private.

The Private Trailside Bedroom has a comfy Queen bed, Flat Screen TV, Sitting Room and Private deck with Ocean View. Another Stunning View is enjoyed from the sitting room opening out to a Private Deck equipped with chairs…perfect for your morning coffee.

DO YOU HAVE ACTIVE YOUNG CHILDREN?
If yes, the Lazy Bowen Hideaway may not be the best choice for your family. Although we have 2 options for you:
Option #1) Rent the Whole House VRBO #901076. This way you will have the freedom for the kids to make all the noise they want. We highly recommend renting the Whole House so everyone can enjoy their stay.
Option #2) Contain your children so they do not make excessive footfall noise by running, jumping tapping, bouncing balls, etc across the floor. These noises sound like a drum and will disturb the Lazy B Waterfront Suite guests that are in the lower rental.

CHILD POLICY
Do include your children in the guest count. With the exception of infants that are not yet walking, we do charge for all guests including children. Unlike simple hotel rooms, we have complete homes with full kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, living & dining rooms to spotlessly clean. Our housekeepers do an excellent job of cleaning after each turnover to provide a thoroughly clean accommodation for the next guest, and this all takes additional time with additional guests. Plus all guests use bedding, water, towels, and other amenities.

We do allow dogs - 2 maximum. $15 per dog per night.

Parking on the property requires driving a short distance on Cleator Road:
~ it is steep in spots
~ it is made of loose gravel
~ it has 3 tight turns.
An all-wheel or 4-wheel drive vehicle the size of a Ford Explorer or smaller is required to drive Cleator Road, our access road/driveway. Or, you may choose to park your 2 wheel drive vehicle at the top of the road and take the 5-minute walk down to the cottage. Parking is free.

CLEATOR ROAD SHUTTLE SERVICE
If you drive a 2 wheel drive vehicle, we have an optional Cleator Road Shuttle service for your convenience. Everything about The Lazy Bowen Hideaway was perfect for our mini Vacation. From a well stocked comfotable suite, amazing waterfront views, beach access we couldnt have expected anything more. We didnt want to leave! Next time our stay will be longer! Thank you for sharing your place!

Perfect stay at the Lazy Bowen

My wife and I stayed at Jan's property over our Thanksgiving break. We can't recommend this place enough. The views were spectacular (and well worth the treacherous drive up and down the road) and the kitchen was well stocked for the Thanksgiving feast we made. Highly recommend!

Beautiful & Fun

We loved our stay here. 2 friends who needed a getaway. The home was lovely, the beds & bedding very comfortable and the view beautiful. We enjoyed the walk to/from our car (we didn't have a 4 wheel drive) -- it was worth it to stay in this location. The weather was unusually warm and the ceiling fans were awesome. The neighborhood and the folks below us were all very quiet. We loved our stay and we'll be back!!

Charming place with fantastic view!

We have stayed in Lazy Bowen Hideaway for 4 nights, and liked it very much! Of course, its highlight is the fantastic view! No words, just WOW! The suite has two cozy bedrooms, spacious living room with charming vintage furniture, modern and fully equipped kitchen, terrace with BBQ and patio table. We love to have breakfast and lunch on the terrace! The drive to the house was manageable. The beach is 1 minute walk from the house. We found very useful all detailed instructions provided by Jan in the binder. Also, it was very interesting to read there about the owner family and the house history, which started from 1920! We had absolutely fantastic time exploring the island, hiking, swimming in the lake and ocean, walking around Killarney Lake, meditating with Opa Tree and in the Labyrinth, and absorbing all the beauty around! Jan, thank you for your hospitality, we look forward to come back!

What a View!

As the listing mentions, the road down is quite steep, and the switchback corners are very tight. I managed to get my F350 shortbox down there, but it was extremely difficult to get turned around and parked. Anything larger would have been impossible. That all said, though, we went in well informed. Jan was the most communicative host I've ever had. She replied to every email I sent within 15 minutes. Lots of excellent information in the online Welcome Guide. We had a great stay. Every possible kitchen dish, utensil, and appliance you could possibly want was available. We couldn't even find an empty drawer to put our own stuff into! 😊 Jan, thank you for an wonderful stay!

Absolutely loved our stay! Perfect space for our family. So relaxing with the sound of the ocean!

This property has everything you need to relax! Great views, large deck, lovely lounge areas, and a great kitchen for cooking. It has a cozy cabin in the woods feel as it is tucked nicely into the surrounding trees, but you also get the amazing ocean view and sound of waves. Great communication from the host Jan as well. We are already planning a trip back!

short last minute getaway

Even more beautiful than the photos. We had to cancel a weekend trip to Seattle because of the health situation and last minute changed our plans and went to Bowen, a short trip from our home in Vancouver. Jan's gorgeous place is right on the water and very private. It is so well decorated, the bed is comfortable and the kitchen has every known utensil for cooking literally anything! We will certainly stay there again and was certainly a good choice for a destination that is worry free and accessible.

Beautiful and spacious cabin

The cabin was very spacious, clean and modern. The kitchen was better equipped than any vacation rental I have ever encountered. The expansive decks and outstanding waterfront view were amazing. We enjoyed the fireplace and overall character of the place. Cannot overstate enough that the steep access road is for real! We parked at the top and walked down, but arriving after dark we were very happy to have brought headlamps to light our way.

Amazing View, Relaxing Location

The Lazy Bowen Hideaway was fantastic. You can't beat the unobstructed view across the water. We were only able to stay a few days, and we wished that we had time to enjoy the property longer. It certainly had all the amenities that we would have needed for an extended visit. The ferry from Horseshoe Bay was easy to figure out, even for us first-timers. If you're lucky enough to stay here, don't miss taking the short drive across the island to enjoy a sunset at Tunstall Bay.

Seclusion and relaxation

Ruhiges, abgelegenes Plätzchen mit wundervoller Aussicht

Sehr schöne Wohnung mit wundervoller Aussicht! Komplett ausgestattet. Sauber. Ruhig. Meeresblick. Ab und zu kommen Robben, Kolibris, Rehe und andere Tiere hallo sagen. 40 min (Fähre inklusiv) von Vancouver entfernt mit dem Wagen. Empfehlenswert für Leute, die den Stadttrubel nicht mögen aber dennoch in Reichweite der Grossstadt Ferien machen wollen. Ein kleiner Wermutstropfen sind die Moskitos, die einen Abends plagen, aber alles in allem wunderschön!

We didn't want to leave

My wife and I spent a wonderful few days at Lazy Bowen near the end of May, 2019. It was about as close to perfect as any place we've ever stayed. It is exactly as advertised - the view from the back porch is tremendous, and the sound of the waves on the rock is the best music for reading or relaxing. From the back porch we saw an eagle, and as we were packing up to leave we saw a harbor seal by the dock below. The kitchen is modern and well-appointed, though we did no cooking at all (part of the appeal of leaving the kids and responsibilities behind!). Living room is comfortable and perfect for reading or just lazing around. Bowen island itself is really a wonderful, tranquil place. We ate at several restaurants, and particularly enjoyed the Bowen Island Pub (avocado smash and hippie pizza were outstanding). Recycling instructions are detailed, but manageable, and you leave with the desire that everyone was this conscientious about minimizing waste. Do pay attention to owner's instructions about driveway. It's not so much that the driveway is steep - it's the angle combined with the sharp turns. I am an adventurous driver, but I would not think of tackling that driveway with a 2-wheel or long-wheelbase vehicle. If we return to Bowen Island, this is where we'll want to stay. Thanks, Jan!

Bowen Island May 2019

Lovely place. Perfect getaway for us. Spent four days taking in the views and relaxing. The road to the place was as advertised. Do not go up and down without a 4-wheel drive (especially if it is raining). Would book it again when we go to Bowen Island.

Jan Stevens was born to Canadian parents and raised in Seattle, Washington making her a dual Canadian / American citizen. While living in Washington state, she studied art and Interior Design at the University of Washington.

Over 27 years ago, when her son was an infant, she established Jan Stevens Design and began her successful design business while working out of her house and being a "Mom" at the same time. Jan has designed stylish, comfortable, and gorgeous interiors for over 39 years and is now retired from the interior design profession. However, her natural talent continues to benefit her vacation home improvements.

Jan's creativity and organizational skills have led her to other entrepreneurial endeavors such as fundraising, graphic design, writing, and photography, as well as managing the Lazy Bowen Hideaway as a vacation rental.

Over the last 15 years, following her passion for Bowen's natural beauty, Jan began photographing the island's sunsets, landscapes, and flora; the photographs were gifts to friends and neighbors as calendars and note cards. With the encouragement of a good friend, Jan recently signed, framed, and displayed some of her best work at the Lazy Bowen Hideaway and Lazy B Waterfront Suite.

While Jan's permanent residence is in Henderson, Nevada, Jan stays on Bowen Island for 3-4 months of the year. The goal soon is to spend equal time between the sunny Southwest and the temperate rainforest of Bowen Island; this would be the best of both worlds.

Why they chose this property

Our Bowen Island cabin has been in the Stevens family since 1954. When our Aunt passed, we became the 2nd generation to own and care for this beautiful waterfront property. We have over 68 years of irreplaceable childhood memories of family time at the cabin: playing cards, board games, and swimming all day and night. It only makes sense to share this unique property with other families that will appreciate the many special qualities of Bowen Island: slow pace, safe environment, and spectacular waterfront setting, among a few. We are thrilled to create new family memories for our son and hope the Lazy Bowen Hideaway can be a part of your family history.

What makes this property unique

We love the comfort of our home (a priority for me that benefits all of our guests) while we sit and enjoy the panoramic water view from all angles of the property. Nature surrounds us and changes with the seasons, from vivid yellow Laburnum and forsythia to the rich evergreen of the fir and cedar trees. At the same time, we enjoy cruise ships and ferries sailing and hope to catch whales or other sea life swimming below the waterfront decks. But my favorite is seeing the Island Deer grazing on the blackberries and salal below the deck.
