About this property
Japanese Inspired Family Home in the Foothills of San Gabriel Valley
Stay in a wonderfully Zen home tucked away in vibrant LA county. Enjoy the outdoor living space year-round with a sprawling back deck (includes plenty of seating, BBQ, running pond, Japanese bridge, and luscious landscape) with a sliding glass door for easy indoor access. The Master bedroom also has an attached deck with access to the courtyard entrance, which includes another running pond. The courtyard entrance has a locking door (separate from the main home) as well as a Ring security system. The two bedrooms on the main floor have amazing natural lighting every morning, with the downstairs bedroom operating as its own wing with an attached bathroom, additional seating, and even its own entrance from the backyard in addition to the main house. The kitchen, floors, windows, deck, laundry room & bar area, and most of the bedrooms & bathrooms have been newly renovated. The driveway holds 2 cars and plenty of permitted overnight street parking. Great location with easy freeway access - the 210 is just a 2 minute drive - and Pasadena is just across the street (15 minutes from the Rose Bowl)! Enjoy nearby hiking trails (Mt. Wilson, Eaton Canyon, etc.), a golf course, restaurants, retail stores, and a Sunday farmers market.

Absolutely beautiful property. Quiet location. Stayed 5 nights during Rose Bowl week. Spectacular location with easy access to restaurants and shopping. Host was very easy to work with!
We stayed here in July. When we learned we needed a longer stay due to our house being renovated, we were so fortunate to be able to return for almost 4 months. Casey couldn’t have been kinder and more responsive while also respecting our privacy. Truly our home away from home.
Honestly the pictures do it no justice. It was a very beautiful home with lots of space! The front yard was wonderful and very private. The backyard was HUGE! With a big open patio where my friends and I sat for breakfast. The home comes equipped with all basic appliances (ex: coffee maker plates spoons stove fridge)
There was a broken bowl but when we contacted the owner it was quickly resolved. Though the broken bowl wasn’t an issue for my group as we had no kids
Over all it was definitely a wonderful place to stay at. I would definitely book this place again!
My family had a great stay in this rental while visiting family in the area. I was there with my sons, ages 20 and 16, and it was perfect for us. We enjoyed the peaceful yard and quiet neighborhood. I am very familiar with the area and can attest to the fact that it is safe. The house is as pictured in the listing, a unique mid-century home with an abundance of comfortable living space. The kitchen looks like it has been recently remodeled and had everything we needed. I would not recommend this house for families with young children because of the water features and rocks outside, as well as the narrow staircase to the basement bedroom, which incidentally features a door to the backyard. But for adults and teens, it is great. Casey was helpful and made herself available if needed.
Our stay couldn’t have been better. The house and gardens provided a wonderful sanctuary-quiet, peaceful, well appointed and the sound of running water. Location was outstanding. Casey was always available, delightful and concerned about our comfort. Our concerns were addressed in record time and the staff who came by was great. We have stayed at a number of VRBO properties and this was a real stand out. It was like coming home.
We were in town for the 2022 Anime Expo in LA and our previous rental fell through at the last minute. From the street this appears to be an unassuming little house in a quiet neighborhood in Sierra Madre, CA. But don’t let the smooth taste fool you. This was an AWESOME find and the photos DO NOT do it justice. Once inside, it’s as if the rest of the world just disappears and the photos come to life. The ambience of the house changes throughout the day. I can’t explain it. You will just have to experience it for yourself.
The entry way including the front door is all glass almost from floor to ceiling, giving it a seamless open concept from outdoors to indoors. The added cobblestone in the foyer also makes for a pretty cool transition.
To be honest, I spent a good deal of my time walking around admiring the beauty of the house and all it had to offer. The backyard beyond the deck is really something to behold. I will not spoil it for you.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Casey, our host. I am grateful that she and her family trusted us to stay in their beautiful home. She was responsive and promptly answered all of my questions. She stopped by the house just before we arrived to make sure everything was in order, and she sent a message checking in on us just before our last day. There were detailed instructions for the house along with suggestions for places to eat in the area. Casa Del Rey was a hit! When asked, she also provided us with the perfect location to watch the fireworks on July 4th.
This Japanese-inspired home did not disappoint. I left motivated to make changes to my own home, and I hope this beauty is available the next time we plan a trip to CA.
