About this property

The County Queen Summ

Summary:
The County Queen has the warmth of home. Curated with a mix of vintage and modern. Ideally located within walking distance of downtown Picton and the Harbour. Just a short drive to the stunning beaches of Sandbanks Provincial Park and the charming towns of Bloomfield and Wellington.

This home is fully licensed per Prince Edward County bylaws (ST-2020-0199)

The Space:
We are close to Main St in a historic residential neighbourhood. A short walk to restaurants, shops, cafes, parks, and Picton harbour. You’ll love our place because of the location and charm. We are a short drive to Sandbanks Provincial Park, Bloomfield, Wellington, Waupoos and the numerous wineries, craft breweries, farms and hiking and biking trails.
Good for couples, groups of friends, and anyone looking to experience the charm of the County. We provide a vehicle pass to Sandbanks Park good from April 1 - November 30.

All bedrooms have Endy mattresses for a very comfortable sleep.

There are 2 yoga mats available and space in the living room, dining room or back deck to stretch out on them.

You have access to the entire house except the basement.
There is a large backyard with a deck that sits in the shade of large nut tree. A canopy tent is put up for spring-fall to ensure shaded seating. There is a gas barbecue and comfortable seating on the back deck.

There are many dining choices, but here are a few reco's in Picton that we really enjoy:

Bocado - They serve incredible Spanish tapas. One of Ontario's best restaurants.
Onesta - Fresh pasta made daily. We love their caesar salad.
The Royal - Picton's historic hotel that has been recently restored is worth checking out for the design alone, but they also have a beautiful high end restaurant and coffee bar.
Russ and Co - Picton's newest cocktail bar adjacent to the Regent Theatre

The Regent Theatre is also a short walk away on Main Street. It began as a movie theatre in 1918 and then hosted vaudeville acts in the 1930's. It is now a fitting centre for the arts community in PEC, hosting live theatre, music and movies.

The Glenwood Cemetery two blocks south of Main Street off Ferguson St. has 62 acres of rolling hills, majestic mature forests, and winding roads. Highly recommend this for an early morning walk. This 1873 cemetery was designed by the same architect that designed the Mount Pleasant cemetery in Toronto.

There are a couple of taxi services available if you want to leave the car at home:
Terry's Taxi
The Taxi Guy
And there's also a ride sharing service called Uride

Guest Access:
You will have access to whole house except the basement. Upstairs has 3 bedrooms and a washroom. The main floor consists of the living room, dining room, kitchen and another washroom.
Washer and dryer are located in the kitchen area.
There are sliding glass doors to the back deck and the backyard.
The backyard is gated.
There is a backyard shed available for anyone who might want to store their bicycles there while visiting us.

The Neighborhood:
In the charming historical neighbourhood of downtown Picton. A short walk to shops, restaurants, cafes, Picton Harbour, grocery and LCBO. Quiet although close to downtown Picton.

Getting Around:
The house has parking for two vehicles in the driveway next to the house. There is a backyard shed available so guests with bikes have a dry, safe spot to store their bikes. We are close to the Millennial Trail and PEC is a favourite for cyclists overall. If visiting vineyards or craft breweries there are tour companies or taxi service available - if you can’t secure a DD driver.

Other Things to Note:
We would ask that you be considerate of our neighbours. They are lovely people on both sides. Please be respectful of the noise.

Interaction with Guests:
We're generally available through the platform or via text/calling

Clean, bright and fabulous location

The house is situated in the perfect location - a quiet street just two blocks from Main Street Picton. The house is clean, had towels, great sheets and duvets and was perfect for a girls weekend. Nicely situation close to the Main Street meant that we could walk to shops and restaurants. Loved it! We will be back!

Excellent Choice

We all loved this house. It could not have been topped. Quiet, nicely appointed, great location, very nice bedding and mattresses. We'll try to rent it again next time we come to Picton.

Long weekend in Picton

Picton is a lovely area with lots to do. The house is quaint and in a perfect location in Picton. It is walking distance to Main Street where there are lovely shops and restaurants. You do need a car to check out all of Prince Edward County and to enjoy Sandbanks. The host has a Sandbanks pass which is a bonus that comes with staying at the house. There were a few things that were off about the house which takes away from the stay. The kitchen is fully stocked and there is a nice deck. The bathroom downstairs has a door handle that falls off from the inside which should have been repaired. If a child gets stuck in the bathroom, it could be stressful. The BBQ is old and falling apart though functional. The shower downstairs is low and tight and would not accommodate a tall person. The mattresses in all the rooms were a bit lumpy. We were there over Canada Day and on the afternoon of Canada Day the main bathroom toilette became backed up. There was no toilet plunger in the house. When we contacted the owner, he asked us to buy a plunger from Giant Tiger which was not open that day. As a result, we spent one night with only one functioning toilet which was located downstairs. Thankfully my 84 year old Mother, who was with us, and had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night, is healthy and managed the stairs ok. We left the plunger at the house so hopefully the issue will not arise again. The stairs in the house are very steep so not for everyone.

Perfect in many ways

I've been renting places every year in the County for over 15 years. This place is now my favorite. Furnishings and finishings were of high quality, beds were very comfortable, kitchen was incredibly well stocked, patio and backyard were very quaint, and the location - a beautiful and quiet street two blocks from Picton Main - was so convenient. Couldn't find any drawbacks. We'll definitely be returning to this place.
