Great Stay

We had a great time at the property and on the island itself. The hikes around the island were fun and beautiful. Great to be around all the wildlife. The island is full of very friendly people. The house was warm and inviting. We loved building a fire each night.

Beautiful property

We very much enjoyed our stay! It was very dog friendly - the stick library was adorable. The house is also beautiful inside and surrounded by woods. The reason for 4 stars was that the second bed was extremely firm so we didn’t use it. It was also very cold when we first arrived as the heaters were not on and it took overnight to warm up.

The island getaway

We really enjoyed our stay. The people on Guemes Island were all super friendly. The house itself was awesome, such a neat little set-up. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway, this is the place for you. Ashley was super quick to respond. A tree fell while we were there and took out power, but we could light a fire to keep warm and could see they were working to quickly to get the power back on. There are beach access areas on the island, so make sure to explore a bit. Listening to the trees bantering with each other was something special, something you don’t always get if you live in the city. You have an awesome house and glad we got to enjoy it for a weekend. Would definitely go back again.

We had a wonderful stay with our college age daughter before she heads back to school. The house was super clean and had everything we needed to enjoy some quiet and some time together.

Quiet, comfortable dog-friendly getaway.

Guemes itself has all the highlights of the bigger islands, but without the long, tricky logistics of getting there. This properly is perfectly situated on a private forested lot in the middle of the island. Great open floor plan, dog-friendly concrete floors, very comfortable minimalist interior, wood fireplace, great kitchen - it's easy to show up and feel like you're instantly at home. For dogs, there are thoughtful touches like leads in the yard, removable covers for the couch, outdoor warm water for hosing off pups, even a stick/tennis ball repository. Everything on the island is a few minutes away by bicycle, and cruiser bicycles are provided. Hike Guemes Mountain for a panoramic view, or go through the Dog Woods preserve to get a feel for the island's history. Peaches Preserve is another great walk through the woods and public access beach... or just enjoy the property itself - the outdoor chairs, the master bedroom balcony, or if it's raining the indoor "reading nook" are all great places to unwind. Looking forward to our next trip already.

About the host

Hosted by Ashley Farley

Host profile image
PNW native who loves everything the PNW has to offer from hiking, biking, kayaking, beach combing, and birding. I bring along our two amazing doggos - Zeek and Addison. When not outside I enjoy puzzles, books, and binge watching tv/movies.

I am a librarian and am very passionate that knowledge should be a public good. While I love my day job it can be hard to see the result of hard work. With hosting I can see our guests benefit and enjoy the hard work that we put into The Dragonfly. It's incredibly rewarding and reminds us of how truly unique and special the home and location is.

Why they chose this property

Guemes Island is such a unique spot it's hard to not fall in love. Going to the island feels like you are escaping the city with just a 5-minute ferry ride. You can enjoy hiking, biking, and beach combing from this peaceful home The food at the Guemes Island General Store is fantastic and in my opinion has the best French fries in the PNW.

What makes this property unique

The home is situated within 2.5 acres of woods that are adjacent to the Guemes Island Cemetery. The local island park is within walking distance. Very peaceful and secluded. Very dog friendly!
