May trip

The house was good. Snug for a group of 6 plus two dogs, but overall good. Everyone was comfortable. Basic amenities were provided. The surfaces and windows could use a little more attention as far as being clean. The window blinds could be replaced as well.

Updated comfortable home

We were pleasantly surprised at the interior of the Honu Hut. When we arrived, the exterior of the property looked a little rough. The yard was a bit over grown, the front door was dirty, and the seating area under the house needed to be swept. The deck needs to be stained. The interior of the house was beautiful. The decor is elegant and simple. The couch had recently been replaced with a sectional sofa that was super comfortable. The beds may be memory foam - they were very comfortable and the bathrooms looked like they had been recently remodeled. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our own meals. We chose the house because we brought a dog with us. There is a large fenced in yard but the gate that is by the house entrance is only 24 inches high. We ended up putting the large recycle bin in front of it to keep the dog from escaping. Mid way through our stay, a landscape company arrived to cut the grass. We didn’t know they were coming. They sprayed what might have been weed killer around the yard. When they left they didn’t fully close the gate. The house is very close to bay drive which has a lovely path. We walked it every day. The beach is also about a .6 mile walk. The house is located in an area that gets very little traffic. Overall a very nice place to stay. Gave 4 stars due to the exterior. Interior is 5 stars.

Communication nightmare

I have never given fewer than 4 stars to any of the multiple places I have rented, and nearly all have been 5 stars. However, our experience at this rental was one of frustration from the start. We chose this place over several others because of its "park-like backyard" fully enclosed by a fence to allow the dog freedom to run. For the first 2 days of our 3-day stay most of the backyard was excavated and part of the fence removed for installing a new septic tank. The excavation and presence of construction equipment created a safety hazard and made the yard unusable. None of this was conveyed to us ahead of time, and it took over 24 hours of persistent calling before we were able to talk to a member of VACASA's "local team" who told us they were not aware of the problem. While the rest of the place had pros (nice kitchen and layout, comfortable beds) and cons (stained, worn furniture with dog hair, moldy shower curtain, and minimal supplies), our biggest problem was inability to use the backyard and the lack of communication. I feel someone should have contacted us prior to arriving to make us aware of the issues, or at least been in contact with us from the beginning of our stay. The local rep agreed that we should be compensated and has told us that VACASA will give us a 25% refund, but that has yet to happen. Emergencies happen, but we should have been kept informed without so much effort on our part. Needless to say, this greatly impacted the enjoyment of our vacation.

Nice, basic vacation home

Honu Hut offers a small family a nice place to stay in a centralized location in OBX. Walking distance to both the beach and bay on a quiet neighborhood street. The fenced in yard was a great option for traveling with our dogs. The day we arrived Vacasa called to let us know the master bath toilet was not working but they would send someone out the next morning to fix. I let them know there were two laundry bags left outside and they said that a company would be out to pick them up. The laundry bags stayed the entire week we were there, but the septic company was out the next morning to fix the toilet (excessive rain the week prior filled the septic tanks). It took maybe 10 minutes and everything worked great the rest of our trip. I would recommend bringing your own sheets, or at least pillow cases. They have two pillows with pillow cases per bed and a bunch of extra pillows without any extra pillow cases. I took a quick trip to Target, but if you like more than one pillow definitely pack your own. The house is bare bones stocked to get a family started with essentials. Pay attention to the size of the coffee pot for extra filters. There were two provided so we bought what we assumed was standard size filters on a grocery run but it wasn’t the right size. Cleanliness was what I would expect of a home at the beach. There is always going to be sand no matter what.

The Honu Hut

We LOVED our stay here! The location of the house, fenced yard for the pups, fully stocked kitchen, awesome outdoor shower for the full OBX experience! I have to say we are HIGHLY impressed and we will for sure book again! ONLY thing I will suggest is for people who actually book here! Please clean up after yourselves better, make sure to clean up after your kids, and not let them rub on the newly painted walls, etc! This place is WAY to nice to not treat it like your own! Thank you Vacasa for being awesome and providing an easy and enjoyable booking experience! We LOVE OBX!

2022 Randall's Vaca

The place was wonder. Our dogs loved the backyard. The only thing is the gate going into the backyard needs to be taller for bigger dogs. The gate door is way to small. The step going down to the Master Bedroom needs to be clearly mark. "STEP DOWN". The fall I had was not pleasant on the first night. But all and all we loved the place. Thank you.

Lovely home

We went on a family trip with my parents, husband and 2 year old daughter. We had an amazing time. The Honu Hut was beautifully remodeled. There were the cutest touches throughout the house. We loved the central location, outdoor showers, lovely kitchen and spacious backyard. The backyard fence allowed for a lot of privacy and we were able to comfortably spend our evenings outdoors in the big chairs. We will definitely be back!

Great location!!

The honu hut made our vacation exactly what we were hoping. This house was tastefully remodeled and newly furnished and it showed. The owners did everything possible to ensure their guests are comfortable. The honu hut is a quick bike ride t the beach or the sound. We will definitely be back..
