Amazing communication

Power was out from the storm and she reached out days early to make us aware. Communication daily as to power and day of we ended up having to stay elsewhere which was out of her control. Her forthcoming nature allowed us to be prepared for a change. We will hopefully stay there if we visit Indiana again

Truly Paradise

We never left, nor did we want to leave! Everything is absolutely beautiful . The entire cabin and grounds had so many elements of excellent craftsmanship, hospitality, and many details. My husband and I came to celebrate our 30th Anniversary; it was the perfect place. We plan to return! Melanie was an excellent hostess.

Fantastic Place

From the moment you drive up to the house you can begin to see the heart and soul of its owner and caretakers. It is well supplied with everything you need, beautifully and thoughtfully landscaped, and the swings on the porches and grilling area were perfectly placed for relaxing and enjoying the space. Secluded, quiet, and peaceful. The love and TLC the host has put in to this is obvious. Itā€™s in every little detail. We certainly hope to be back again soon.

Anniversary Getaway

We felt like we were in a fairy tale at Melanieā€™s whimsical home! It was perfection for my indoorsy husband and outdoorsy me. Such wonderful moments I spent just soaking in nature. We saw a family of raccoons shortly upon arriving, gorgeous deer each time we ventured out the lane, and the flowers were so fragrant and beautiful. We went to Bloomington and ate at Nickā€™s, which my husband, a IU Hoosiers fan, enjoyed. We went into Nashville and visited the quaint shops, and another night we went to Jankoā€™s for a steak dinner and wine in a casual dining setting, and it was delicious. Then we returned to the cabin and to the twinkle lights and sounds of nature. The coffee and tea bar were second to none, and Melanie tucked in surprised of fresh flowers throughout the cabin, as well as displays of beautiful art. We also visited the gravesites of some of my husbandā€™s relatives, and if you are a cemetery enthusiast, this part of the state has gorgeous ones. We are already discussing when we can return. Melanie thinks of everything and makes all visitors feel special and welcome.

Luxury and Nature

The property is private and serene, with bountiful wildlife. The cabin is exceptional, down to the condiments in the fridge to a swing bed on the screened in porch. Unusual things about the cabin was the communications with the owner, super helpful and detailed, a very complete coffee and tea bar, and the every area was very well stocked with every thing you need for a comfortable stay. Plan to go again in another season to take in the view from the ridge.

Slice of Serenity

Incredible experience. Found this place randomly online making travel plans. We stayed for a long weekend and this was an absolute gem, even better than we expected based on the listing. A pristine house with lovingly maintained landscaping and interiors on top of a hill, with lake views (early spring) and cozy outdoor lighting at night. A million little porches and spots to get and drink coffee or wine together and forget the world. The place was immaculately clean and had everything we wouldā€™ve wanted stocked. Melanie, the host, was kind and communicative when I reached out but otherwise totally respected our privacy. The only reservation I had on booking was whether the other nearby structure visible in the photos was an inhabited house, but itā€™s just a barn/ storage building. If I ever have reason to come this way again, this would be the first place Iā€™d book. Already a little nostalgic for it.

Listing doesn't do justice to how amazing this place is!

I have stayed in many rentals over the years and this is probably the best stay I've ever had. Melanie was very kind, responded quickly to any questions we had before and during our stay, and was just the ideal host. The cabin is very well appointed, with all of the kitchen and bathroom needs you can think of. The fireplace, hot tub, luxury bathroom and stocked kitchen made for a very comfortable, cozy stay. I hope we can come back again some day!

Quiet Getaway

We stayed over Christmas weekend to have a nice, relaxing holiday and it was perfect. Melanie has everything in the cabin you could possibly need and then some. Very clean and well taken care off. Would definitely stay again when in the area. Our favorite parts were the great fireplace with wood provided and the back porch bed where we listened to the rain. Thank you for letting us use your wonderful cabin in the woods.

Wonderful place to get away

We were trying to get away for a quiet few days, but with a nice range of activities. The cabin is isolated, but within 15-20 minutes of Nashville. It was a beautiful blend of rustic look and modern amenities with an engaging artistic touch. The kitchen is well supplied with tableware and utensils. The living room and upstairs nood are comfortable for reading (with a good sized and eclectic range of books). The bedrooms are also comfortable and one features a small balcony. The front and back porches were great spots for reading or watching the wildlife. We went into Nashville a couple of times to enjoy shopping at a wonderful independent bookstore and eating at a couple of memorable restaurants. We also ate outside of Bean Blossum at two local restaurants. The week we were there there was a series of chamber concerts each evening, so we hiked in the morning and enjoyed a concert by world-class musicians in the evening! Melanie was an attentive host who provided a number of guides for finding local spots to visit. This is a great get-away spot where you can do as much as you want ā€” stay in the cabin and get away from it all or travel around to visit local attractions.

Amazing Hideaway

Wow, this home is incredible! We will definitely return. We found the cabin when looking for a place to stay near IU to drop our freshman off to college. It's about 25 minutes from the university and absolutely worth the drive. The house is gorgeous and utterly relaxing, especially amidst the emotional moment we were having. Melanie's instructions for getting to the place were very clear - all of her communication was excellent and she gave us a list of places to go and things to do that we will take more advantage of next time. The place is a short drive to Lake Lemon, there are hiking trails and nature preserves nearby, and Nashville (Indiana) is a do-not-miss artists' colony town about twenty minutes away. We used every amenity we could in our short stay - the fire pit, the hot tub, the jacuzzi bathtub, the screened porch and the back porch, even the French press for coffee. The house is meticulously and beautifully decorated. We heard barred owls and bullfrogs. The two beds are comfortable, though we wished one of them was a king, and the canopy bed is very creaky but pretty. The house is perfect for three or four people. There are interesting books as well as a Brown County book of artists, which includes Melanie's grandmother, whose gorgeous art is all over the house. The WiFi was solid in the house but the area had no cell signal - if you are heading to the cabin make sure you've loaded the information about the house and directions beforehand.

About the host

Hosted by Melanie Pool

Host profile image
I grew up in the country living in a log cabin surrounded by nature, a pond, lots of animals and with horses. My days as a child were spent outside mostly hiking, exploring on horseback, fishing and playing in the creek.

The nearest town was Nashville, IN home of many artists including my late Grandmother Kaye Pool. I spent many days in Grammy's studio while she painted, watching attentively, daydreaming of the places on canvas she created. Mainly scenes from from around the area capturing it's true natural beauty in every season imagined.

My family owned a Christmas tree farm in the earlier days. I can still remember the smell of freshly sheered pine trees, in the fields full of wild native prairie flowers. During the winter season taking families out to cut a tree, keeping count of earnings in a coffee can from each tree. Later, the family purchased a sawmill and proceeded into the lumber and logging business. Many days were spent in the forest with my Dad identifying trees and enjoying nature.

I choose nursing for my profession and spent many years caring for others. During that time I always felt a pull to nature and found peace in the forest. Cabin Porch Paradise was not built as a vacation home originally, but a private residence that I lived in for over 20 years. Situated on 20 acres atop a ridge the cabin was a dream come true from a vision long ago derived from my childhood memories and surroundings.

Why they chose this property

Cabin Porch Paradise is a secluded nature retreat located deep in the forest near Lake Lemon. The log home is custom built with all the modern amenities including an outdoor hot tub, indoor Jacuzzi, stone fireplace, and a wood stove. Nature is right outside the door with 2 porches and a balcony providing many seating options and privacy.
The location is within 15 miles of Bloomington (hometown of IU) or Nashville. Wine tasting and tours within 10 miles, visit the village of Nashville for fine dining, live music, shopping and Brown County State Park. Minutes from Lake Lemon Marina with Kayak, paddle board and pontoon rentals now. Hikers enjoy many trails at nearby Morgan-Monroe State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest. Guests can either stay at the cabin and never leave or go out and enjoy the local attractions.

What makes this property unique

Guests fall in love the minute they pull in the drive. Winter lake view, summer tree tops, natural gardens with a large frog pond frequented by wildlife daily the cabin is situated in it's own little eco-system, private & secluded. After entering the cabin guests are taken back to find everything hand crafted from soaring beamed ceilings, granite countertops, stone fireplace, hardwood floors, & many large windows for light. The original artwork adorns the walls, with comfortable tasteful furniture for seating.
