About this property
Jacquette, Château des Sénéchaux, luxurious, decadent, restful, magnificent.
Enter la Maison de Jacquette on a hot summer's day and the coolness of the 17th century flagstones will welcome and refresh you.
This entrance was once the access to the tunnel that allowed servants and guards to move discreetly, or secretly, between the Château de Bourdeilles and the Maison du Sénéchal, as the property was once called. It could also serve as an escape for those who avoided the watchful eye of archers and knights.
This is also the site of the long-drop toilet (pit latrine), which was an unfortunate but creative punishment for those held in the prison cell below.
A relatively short flight of stairs leads to a voluminous reception room with exposed beams and rafters. The diverse influences from Thailand, France, Britain, America, China and other parts of Asia are evident in the beautiful, massive furniture that evokes other worlds and civilizations. This luxurious space is somewhat extravagant and lavish for two people, but you are coming here to treat yourself and be spoiled.
You now have a decision to make: should you go to the terrace that lies temptingly ahead? Or should you go and discover the stylish bedroom and the bed that just calls out to you?
A look inside the bedroom inspires you to take a deep breath and appreciate everything you see. Larger than you imagined, regal and sumptuous, this room has the allure of the 15th century and is furnished with a luxurious four-poster bed the size fit for an emperor. The risk of oversleeping is great. The en-suite bathroom is bright and inviting, and you'll want to spend hours soaking in the clawfoot tub or washing away your cares in the generously proportioned shower.
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on your private terrace overlooking the river, surrounded by the sounds of the countryside. Later, soak up the evening warmth as the golden hour descends on the stones of the towers and the valley beyond, and as day turns to night, watch for owls and bats in flight until stars fill the clear night sky.
With a luxurious layout, a terrace that has a magnificent view of the river, and rooms that are huge and intimate, ancient and modern, regal and sumptuous. You will have a restful, unforgettable stay, made expressly for you. Come and discover this beautiful corner of France and enjoy the charm of this historic monument.

About the host
Hosted by Kay Martinesz and David Pugh

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to our property.
In 2011, after five years of research abroad, many visits to various properties, and with four children aged three to nine, we found a property that appealed to us in every way. The target of our affections was called the Château des Sénéchaux, in Bourdeilles.
The property had been empty for a few years, but it attracted us to its potential and above all that it was located in a magnificent location. Many years later we love being here and have found a fondness for the heritage of this area.
We wish to share all these privileged places with those who have the same taste, the same interest in old architecture, the same desire to safeguard our heritage, and particularly with those who appreciate the details.
We are genuine, warm and caring hosts who want you to feel the magic of the property. We keep your needs and desires as our priority and aim to allow you to be cocooned with a sense of luxury and space, class while maintaining comfort and sumptuousness, to be pampered and spoiled, and to have an unforgettable stay.
We left Great Britain in 2001 and lived in Sri Lanka, Thailand (where our four children were born), Maisons-Laffitte and Philadelphia, before settling permanently in the Dordogne in 2011 at the Château des Sénéchaux.
Through David's intuition, innovative use of materials, determination, natural skill and dexterity, and Kay's complementary ideas and talents, we have brought our beautiful home back to its original form. original splendor.
In addition, during our travels in Asia and elsewhere, we have acquired original and stylish furniture and unique accessories, which have allowed us to accentuate the class and the remarkable charm of the estate.
Why they chose this property
Located a few metres from the Dronne river and in the heart of the Dordogne countryside, the Château des Sénéchaux is perfectly located for paddleboarding, wild swimming and walks in the forest. Available on request, a rowboat for fun on the river, or take it upstream and stop for a picnic by the river. The beautiful medieval village of Bourdeilles is on your doorstep, and just 10km down the road is the popular town of Brantôme, the Venice of the Dordogne. Almost every weekend there is a vide grenier (similar to garage sales) in one village or another, festivals abound during the summer and there are a plethora of events to suit all tastes. In winter, the village snuggles into a sweet hibernation, but the music continues year-round in an establishment, and local amenities provide plenty of distractions, as you experience the delightful intimacy of the village.
What makes this property unique
Located within the grounds of the castle, either in the stables wing or in the pleasure pavilion by the river, our three four-star suites at the Château des Sénéchaux in Bourdeilles are beautifully restored and offer a spectacular view over the nearby village chateaux, and the surrounding countryside.
All three properties have been individually renovated with style and taste, making sure to accentuate the natural tones of wood and stone. The kitchens and bathrooms are sleek and fully equipped, with a harmonious blend of modern and old. Each suite is bright, spacious and elegant, all furnished with fine Asian and European furnishings, each evoking a natural tranquility and calm. Each suite is perfectly appointed and well-equipped to meet all your needs, including a welcome kit and provisions, and if you find you need something a little different, just ask and we'll make it right. everything we can to help you.
