(Pool Access/Use) The Ernest Lyons House is an off-site (200 feet from the Main Hotel Building) 2,040 square foot historic home located on spacious grounds (approximately 1/2 acre) surrounding a large swimming pool with "Golden Mean" dimensions (44 x 27 foot lap pool) and spa. This luxurious and charming home features antique Florida heart-pine flooring, a king-sized bed in the Master Bedroom with working fireplace and exposed wood-beam cathedral ceiling, a queen-sized bed in a second bedroom, a queen sized bed in a third bedroom, a fully-equipped kitchen, two spacious living areas with two convertible queen sofa beds and 2 dining tables and a separate kitchenette, 2 bathrooms (one with a Jacuzzi-tub and shower and another with walk-in shower), and access to the pool and spa with comfortable outdoor furniture and propane fire table. The Ernest Lyons House is a Designated Florida Literary Landmark, an honor shared by authors such as Robert Frost and Tennessee Williams. Ernest Lyons, long time editor of the Stuart News and author of "The Last Cracker Barrel" and "My Florida" lived in the home from 1937 until his death in 1990. The Ernest Lyons House was originally built in 1890 and has been recently faithfully restored by local preservationist, Dr. Thomas Connelly. The home served as the town's first schoolhouse in 1891; it was the site of the town's first wedding in 1892; and Stuart's first baby was born in the home in 1897.
