Very responsive hosts
Check in was very easy, there was a lot of communication with the hosts. Plenty of room for our party of 5, age 6 - 60+. We really enjoyed the hot tub and view of Lake Superior. Location was perfect for our tourist excursions to Glensheen and Canal Park endeavors. Time didn't allow for Gooseberry, but would be perfect for that too!

Ladies Weekend
Pluses: House has plenty of room and good areas for gathering. We were able to spend good time chatting together catching up. The hot tub and fireplace on the deck was nice. Agreements with other reviews: There are quite a few personal items around. General cleaning was good – vacuumed, wiped down, clean sheets/towels, clean hot tub. But many areas had built up dirt and needs a detailed scrub and could use some good general maintenance. The deck railing is messed up from a tree fall and roped off by snowmobile fence and ratchet straps. Concerns: There is a tenant and dog that lives in the basement, and there is an access door in the kitchen. The door has no lock for the renter to secure. This was a deal-breaker for a couple friends where some late-night noise from the tenant freaked them out, and they left. The owner stated this was disclosed and sent me a pic showing the tenant disclosure, but none of us could find this information online. We were missing three smoke detectors throughout the bedrooms. The deck door has multiple locks, all of which only mildly worked. As the owner mentioned in other reviews, a previous renter left the freezer opened but the freezer wasn’t cleaned out where things melted. We had a good conversation with the owner before we left, where we discussed our concerns. She mentioned it has been challenging keeping up personally, and as a rental owner, with the repairs for many different reasons. She did offer a future discounted stay.

We stayed here for a family wedding weekend so we didn't spend much time at the house. There was good communication between the owner, overall the house was as it appeared in the pictures.

FILTHY AND STINKY
The house is pretty run down. Wall paper peeling off walls, half painted walls, water damaged floors in the kitchen and dining room. Those things I could have overlooked if it didn’t smell so bad. It has an old house smell but then there is garlic hanging in the windows in the kitchen to add to that smell! The deck was rotting apart. The benches were held up by some bricks but some places it couldn’t even be held up. The hot tub was not clean and we found glow sticks and loose screws on the bottom so it was obviously not cleaned. I was told I put too much chemicals in and that’s why we had brown foam when we turned on the jets!! The entire house needs a deep clean as others have said. Dust and dog hair everywhere including in all of the beds! I found a pill on the floor and with a crawling baby with me that was concerning. Moldy windows and they all need a good clean that has not been done for many years. This was my first time doing Vrbo and I was very disappointed. Then we went to go to bed and we found dog and human hair on all of the sheets. One set of sheets was covered in mold. That was the last straw. The owner said I would get a full refund if I didn’t contact Vrbo but after a few days of not hearing from them I went ahead with a complaint to Vrbo. Now we were supposedly swinging from the basketball hoop and bent the pole! The tallest person with us was 5’6”!!! Not sure how we could have gotten up there?? I stayed the 2nd night in a motel!

Beautiful, relaxing house. The house was clean, but lacks a deep cleaning and declutter. The deck was a disappointment.

girls trip - nature and relaxation
we had a blast! check-in was nice! we got a little tour before settling in, by the owner’s daughter (who was an absolute doll). she gave us a run-down of nearby nature walks and views. it was the first vrbo i’ve stayed in that had personal belongings in it, so it was a little weird, but it gave a very homey atmosphere! felt like we were staying with relatives. 😊 thank you so much for everything. i’d absolutely stay again.

Attentive and helpful
I rented this home for a bachelorette weekend for my sister in law. Cindy was very helpful in the process when the site wouldn’t work and communicated often when I had questions before our stay. When I arrived she had mentioned they were spring cleaning. They had been doing some landscaping so she was clearing away some of the extra items. I rented the home for 9 girls and everyone had a bed to sleep in which was nice. The home wasn’t professionally cleaned as the previous reviewer expressed, but I did some cleaning before decorating and putting the party together. I left the home in the condition that it was found. I asked Cindy for check out instructions and she said just basic cleaning. I loaded the dishwasher with any remaining dishes we used and the girls stripped the beds to make laundry easier for the cleaning crew. We attempted to run a vacuum again but it doesn’t pick up much. The door kept on locking us out and although the homeowners were next door, we didn’t feel comfortable leaving the door unlocked with all of our stuff inside. We had to call her to come unlock the door a couple times. Hot tub was very nice and used on the first night we arrived. Neighborhood was pretty quiet for being as close to UMD as we were. We had a great time.

Bentleyville
We planned a weekend in Duluth to go to Bentleyville with friends. We enjoyed the hot tub each night with a view of the lake. There was not very detailed check-in/check-out directions. The email and app said that the host would meet us at the door when we arrived, but I sent multiple texts and calls to tell them when we arrived, and did not get ahold of anyone for 30+ minutes. Once we were in, we were informed that the oven was broken, so we had to order food for delivery. The freezer door was also broken and wouldn’t stay shut. The house did not seem to be professionally cleaned as most places are when you arrive. The bathroom counter was covered in hair and the floors were not vacuumed. The driveway is on a hill, which made it difficult to park a car in the driveway after it snowed, so we parked across the road. Overall, this place has plenty of sleeping room for larger parties, and would be a great place in the summer to use the deck and large backyard.

Fall Color Tour
My husband, FIL, two adult children and their significant others enjoyed a 3-day weekend in Duluth. This place was spacious, had a beautiful view, and a fabulous deck! Our only complaints were: WE needed one more bathroom (lol) and seating (both living room and dining) wasn’t set up for a large number of people (note: we did see the hosts attempt to accommodate for that). The hosts left written instructions and were responsive to questions during our stay. The hot tub was a BONUS as was the large backyard. Given another large family trip we would check into availability of this listing.

Great Lake views
The place fit our needs perfectly. We had planned for 7, but in the end only 4 of us came. There’s was plenty of room for more. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, and sitting on the deck watching the sunrise over the lake as we sipped our morning coffee. The location was quiet and convenient. The owners were very friendly and responsive. I loved all the little touches that made the decor cozy and special. We all had a great stay.

We have been married 33 raising 3 wonderful children while practicing professional healthcare. We met in Texas at a healthcare convention, dated long distance for 3 years, as Cindy lived in MN and Kris in TX., and then we were married. We have now been at this home for 19 years and are nearing retirement with the plan of increased travel, thus we have decided to make others feel relaxed and happy here within our home just as we have been. We love Duluth as one of the most sought after destination cities and we hope that you enjoy this beautiful place with affordable comfortable living experience. while enjoying beaches , rivers, waterfall, woods and music and food !We just wanted to invite guests to experience Duluth as a home.

Why they chose this property

We love the peaceful serenity of being able to either sit on the deck or the chairs we have in the front yard as each have the magnificent view of Lake Superior. There is so much serenity in the relaxed state that this allows. It is SO nice to live on the "outskirts" of town where you are not quite so bound up with stress from the city, but still close with a short commute to shopping, snow skiing, water sports hiking concerts marathon and or either a leisurely drive along the beautiful Lake Superior shoreline sandwiched between Hawk ridge below us and Hartley nature center above our property hosts much wildlife . Available hip camp space next door as we own land adjoining us
From kitchen while cooking you can watch kids play in level fenced back yard and deck

What makes this property unique

This home was built in 1921 and still is in excellent condition after 100 years with the ambiance as well as the stability of antique dwellings. When you watch the full moon or the sunrise over Lake Superior you hear the silence of nature. Deer grazing in our open woods and wild flowers next to the home with bunnies are a common friendly visitor. It is not unheard of to have a black bear wander in and or a curious red fox with bald eagles soaring overhead, as we are the migratory path of many variations of fowl, including the Hawk Ridge. In fact this is a bird watchers delight with 7 waterfalls and queries tumbling down from there as you cross 7 bridges to scenic London Road . The same area which In the winter the dog sled races pass through! Amazing to watch as they come or go from Canada! If you love horses the amenity trail runs right behind our house and if you need to park a horse trailer in our yard next door you may inquire. We are pet friendly with kennel in back yard but choose not to rent to pets at this time. Our new beds include a extra large king size bed in the primary suite and the bed controls allow antigravity as well as raise you to view the sunrise or the moonlight spill into your room. The queen beds in room 2 is brand new and made with green tea and charcoal to keep dry and sanitary as your body sinks into the conforming material. There is a double queen log bunk bed room in which you have views of Lake Superior. You feel as though you are in a log cabin in this motif. The middle room 3 also lake view with new bed or queen air mattress if preferred. The main floor is immediately next to bathroom and laundry facilities. Kitchen has a great view of back yard if kids are playing in fenced yard as you cook . We do have a grill and will sell propane or wood or charcoal. My husbands heavenly haven on the front yard by fire pit he'd enjoy a cold beverage while looking t at the lake under large maple tree while raspberries burst with color!
