Do you know the Ammerland? Where is the Ammerland?
In the north of Lower Saxony, west of Oldenburg (Oldb), the City of Science 2009, lies the special symphony in the countryside.
This Ammerland is a unique parkland.
Westerstede, the county seat of the district of Ammerland is again awarded as a resort. The annual floral decoration in the city center makes strolling an experience. Every 4 years, many well-known regional nurseries and the city of Westerstede design the unique rhododendron festivities. A must for all garden lovers who come here fully at their expense. Every year over one million visitors experience the Ammerland and find holiday accommodations in the six different communities.
If you ride the bike on sign-posted routes through the Ammerland, you'll notice the numerous nurseries. Here is the cradle of the vast majority of rhododendrons sold all over the world.
Amateur photographers will find great motifs in the famous Rhodo Parks in Linswege, Gristede and the Park of Gardens in Bad Zwischenahn / Rostrup. The Schlosspark in Rastede and the Maxwald-Park in Westerstede are further attractions for the plant lover. Vacationers will also find plenty of inspiration in the many private gardens that open their doors to visitors several times a year.
The country is also characterized by many old mills and the typical Ammerländer farmhouses, the Gulf houses. You will find attractive examples in each community. Among the attractions of this holiday region include the various old Protestant churches with special altars and organs.
For the tourist and landlocked the North Sea is worth a visit. One is in less than an hour by car in Dangst or Wilhelmshaven. An experience of a special kind is the Wadden Sea National Park. Many small museums on the coast are worth knowing. The much-praised central location of the Ammerland makes a holiday particularly worthwhile.
