About this property

Amazing View w/ Deck, Pond, Sledding Hill - 100+ acres - Great for Families

This light, bright and spacious house gives you a feeling of being on top of the world. The decor is simple but hopefully aesthetically pleasing. We find it is a true getaway.

You can find lots to do in the area, or just stay and enjoy the view. In the winter there's a great sledding hill and--if it's good and cold--a pond to slide on. In summer, the pond is swimmable, and fun for frog-catching and using the blow-up raft. If you like to cook, the kitchen is completely equipped. The house is set up so that there are private areas and public areas. You can have alone time, or congregate. There are 3 bathrooms, one on each floor. The 5th bed/rec-room has a ping pong table. It's the kind of house where you'll have a wonderful vacation whether you ski or you just kick back and enjoy the beauty of the place. New router for the wi-fi with speeds of 25-30/10-15 mbps.

Each bedroom is private. There's one with a king-size bed, and 2 bedrooms have queens. The children's room has two twin beds, toys, books. There's a queen futon in the bed-rec room, which is on a separate floor and has its own bathroom and TV.

We've owned and loved this house since the sixties, and we hope you will find this house an idyllic place to rest and enjoy.

Awesome stay!
Great view and perfect fit for our two families skiing at Mt. Snow. Easy 20-minute drive to the mountain. The kids really enjoyed sledding down the big hill in front of the house. Grocery store was super close. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Idyllic setting perfect for a couple families with kids looking to get away from it all.
We really enjoyed our stay here, especially watching the birds in the field of wildflowers. We enjoyed watching the swallows tend to their fledglings, yellow finches and a blue indigo bunting. Grilling outside was perfect, and everyone in our party of 9 had ample room. The ping pong table was a perfect respite from our kids' incessant electronics usage!

Wonderful, cozy, scenic property!
My two adult daughters and I had the most wonderful winter long weekend stay here. The house was inviting and cozy, the views were stunning, and the host and caretaker were incredibly responsive and welcoming. We hope to be back to experience summer at this house!

Friends reunion ski trip
We had an excellent stay and the house comfortably accommodated a large group of childhood friends who came together from all over to ski and hang out for the weekend. The place was perfect for non skiers to stay home and relax and offered a great space for us all to come together to make dinner and hang out after a freezing day on the slopes. Host gave great instructions and the house was cleanly and exactly as pictured

Perfect Peace
This is a special place, beautifully and lovingly maintained. Aside from all obvious superlatives, the subtly decentered screens made it easier for my 11 and 15 year old sons to become interested in the sturdy ping pong table in a room looking into nature, jigsaw puzzles, delightful back issues of the New Yorker and intriguing books on the shelves, such that we had a wonderful gadget-screen free five days even though it poured rain for much of our stay. I loved swimming in the pond in 55 degree rainy weather so I can imagine how amazing it must be when it's warm! If you meditate, the boat house is beyond. The hosts left clear, useful instructions and were great communicators. Knowing I was supporting the maintenance of a sustainably run house made the splurge feel better! The kitchen is great to cook in (if you're coming in via the Mass. route stop at the two farmstand stores you'll pass for local summer fruits and vegetables plus top-notch organic eggs in the purple carton as there's more produce than in the nearest Vermont stands) but we also ate out at Dots and Wahoo's in Wilmington -excellent!!! Brattleboro seemed hard hit by the pandemic, so if you have time to pop over there and have a meal or shop it might help the town's spirit. The Molly Stark state park loop is a lovely, manageable hike for most ages. A huge thank you to the hosts for our marvelous experience!

Great ski house
My teens loved the house. A couple didn’t ski and enjoyed spending the day exploring the property (spotted a fox), sledding, and playing games. The kitchen was nicely equipped. The beds were comfy and the wood stove made the house toasty at the end of the day.

Getaway to Vermont for a Long Weekend.
We decided to travel to Vermont for a long cool weekend in the Green Mountains but we brought the 90 degree weather from New York with us. Lyn's mountain retreat was all that she said it would be and more. The 100 acre property was more that we could explore. The hidden pond was a treat to behold along with the inflatable boat that brought such merriment to the whole family. the entire house was large enough for our group of 9 not to run into each other and the game room brought out the competitiveness of our family. The bedrooms were accommodating and the kitchen and living room were clean and well equipped. We managed to use the BBQ and enjoyed coffee on the deck as we watched the mist dissipate over the mountains. My son and grandson managed to catch some small trout in the local river in the town of Wilmington (bought fishing licences) and we shopped and had ice cream in town. We can imagine that the snow and ski season must be awe inspiring. All in all this weekend added to our many memories of family get togethers and we look forward to many more of these "Good Times". Thanks again to Lyn Bertles and VRBO to allow us to get together.

Fantastic house and property
This a beautiful setting in the hill sf southern Vermont. Large house with a fabulous view out into the Valley. Large bedrooms. And a glass front wall that looks out in the Valley, Deck right outside. Lyn, the owner, is very cool. She could not be more helpful and pleasant to deal with. The instructions sent beforehand are extensive, but much needed. Much appreciated. You lose cell service and on several occasions GPS. So her directions are key. There is a swimming pond hidden away with a little structure next to the pond. Really delighful.

Family and Friends ski vacation
Lyn's house was perfect for a large group! The location was excellent-close to town and Mt Snow. We had a blast sledding on the hill and snowshoeing on the property. The house was completely stocked with everything you could have needed for a group of ten. I use VRBO often and i can say without a doubt this house was the best stocked for guests I've seen. The house itself has large rooms, is very clean, and is a perfect fit for adults and kids. I can't wait to come back in the summer.

. Beautiful house in a lovely area of southern Vermont
Spacious and charming house with 5 bedrooms, sitting on top of a hill overlooking woods and hills. Lovely dishware and lots of cooking and baking equipment provided. A perfect place for four or five couples (or a family group) to gather and take advantage of the Marlboro Music Festival as well as hiking and exploring the Wilmington VT area.

Beautiful Get Away Retreat!!!! **Highly Recommend**
Nice secluded spot yet close enough to downtown Wilmington. Large yard, extra room in the basement next to the futon room. The perfect amount of rustic and modern style. Large deck for socializing while enjoying a view. My friends and I had a great time and would recommend this VT get away.

Amazing Winter Escape!
We have enjoyed this house for the past 3 winter seasons. My family as well as our close friends (4 adults, 6 kids) cannot say enough about this property. With nice large bedrooms and amazing views it has it all! We sled down the large back hill, ice skate on the pond, hike through the woods and enjoy the peace and quiet of the many acres it includes. Our kids look forward to this vacation every year and this home couldn't be more perfect for a large group. The owners are so accommodating and go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. The kitchen is very well stocked and the fireplace makes it so warm and inviting. We do go skiing at Stratton which is about a 40 minute drive and snow tubing at Mount Snow which is only 20 minutes away. Simply put-this home a little peace of heaven in the mountains=)

Christmas in Vermont
What a wonderful Christmas vacation we spent at this house! Having been to Vermont on numerous occasions but never in December (and a few days in January), we were a little apprehensive spending two weeks at this location. It turned out to one of our best vacations ever! The owner was great to work with, giving us not only Christmas week, but allowing us to spend New Year's Eve and a few days after. The home is spacious, well heated, and as promised...the hill behind the house (which was covered with snow) gave our 10 yr. old twin grandsons and their friend several days of exciting sledding and fort building. There is a caretaker to the property only a phone call away to answer questions. We were 7 people for the 2 weeks and an additional 3 people for 5 of the days and there was plenty of room. Just a great time in the city of Wilmington which we've come to love almost as much as our home in Texas!

Great Vacation Home!!
4 adults from Atlanta Georgia stayed here from Dec 25 to Jan 2nd. It is a wonderful relaxing house complete with the most beautiful view from the deck. The kitchen is well equipt and has all the necessary items and even extras such as spices. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds are so very comfortable. The house does have a wood stove but we didn't use it. The road leading to the house was plowed daily so driving wasn't a problem even for those of us that had never driven on snow. There is a shed with sleds for sledding down this marvelous hill behind the house. Also the path behind the house leads to a beautiful pond and breath taking views of the snow covered woods. The owner is a dear to work with and leaves detailed instructions. We had a wonderful week here and would highly recommend this rental.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a family of musicians and writers who like to walk in the woods. There's an electric piano; there are music stands, Ping Pong table, games (we are Scrabble fans) and plenty of privacy for quiet reading. This is the perfect house for those who like to stay at home while others are skiing, as the house is such a pleasure. There are 100 hikeable acres down "our valley". Food shopping and a big drugstore are seven minutes away, yet the privacy is perfection.

Why they chose this property

We first built this house in 1965, and enlarged and modernized it in '95. Our house is completely private - you can't see or hear any other houses (although there are houses perhaps 1/4 mile away). Even the view is just nature, just trees and mountains. We chose to come here because we love Vermont, and Wilmington is within reach of both Boston and New York, as it's just over the Mass. border. There's plenty to do here, but it's not all frantic traffic and street density as it is on Cape Cod or in the Hamptons.

What makes this property unique

There's something about standing on our deck and looking at the view that is totally relaxing. Then there's that walk to the pond, where one can swim or raft, and, in winter, the pleasure of watching children take sleds from our woodshed and slide down the hill. Wilmington has all sorts of sweet shops, and Brattleboro is 30 minutes away, a town of artists and craftspeople. Manchester and its outlet stores is an hour away. Of course, for skiers there's Mount Snow or Stratton--or you can just snow shoe in our woods or sled down the hill.
