We found Grandpa's House on a working dairy farm, nestled in the Indiana countryside, to be clean, comfortable, and cozy. House is recently updated, and the decor is pleasing. The house has two bedrooms with three beds, a full bath with two sinks, a nice living room with television, DVDs, and streaming, and a large table in the eat-in kitchen. The kitchen's cooking area was roomy and well-stocked with gadgets and gear. The hot water was slow to get to the shower, but it wasn't an issue once it got there.
Mudroom had a separate entrance handy for hauing photo and video gear in and out every day. We didn't use the washer or dryer, but it was nice to know they were available if needed. Half-bath in the mudroom felt like a luxury since all our houses are one bath.
The kitchen was well-equipped.
Good selection of small appliances. I did not find a blender but used a small food processor. The knives we found were usable. I have a collection of knives at home that I use for doing food photography, video, and writing, so admittedly, I'm a knife snob. Dinnerware and bakeware were all decent, and we found a pan that we loved - always a plus!
The owner has provided everything we could require.
Our dogs were thrilled with the basket of dog toys for playing. What a pleasant surprise! We had lots of gear to charge up every night and plenty of places to make that come together. I liked the runners and rugs on the flooring. We brought many rugs of our own to protect the floors and keep the dogs comfortable walking around, and with the rugs already in the house, they were right at home. I accidentally took one of the rugs when packing up to leave, and Laurie made it simple to pay for a replacement.
We felt welcome like we were part of the local community while staying here. There was activity relating to the cows and harvesting on a working dairy farm. It felt familiar, like visiting the family farms in the Valparaiso area. People waved as they passed when we were sitting out front and walking dogs on a country mile stroll at the start and end of our long days. We did have one of the lovely cows come for a more personal visit, and the dogs loved that! We called the phone number in the kitchen and let them know one of the girls was visiting, and she was safely escorted back to the herd.
Would Stay Again. We liked this property and appreciated the dog-friendly option. I almost wanted to keep it a secret because the dogs and people liked it so much.
