About this property

Cozy Cabin w/ Indoor Fireplace & Tranquil views

Welcome to your cozy cabin mountain get-away! Less than 2 hours from the Washington D.C. area and tucked away along the woodland shores of the Shenandoah River, this well equipped retreat is everything you need for a perfect weekend away from the city.

Spend the day hiking nearby trails or floating or fishing in the Shenandoah River.

Located just outside the small town of Luray and on the foothills of the George Washington National Forest, the cabin is perfect for a quiet weekend away!

The Cabin
Located just outside the small town of Luray and on the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, the cabin is the perfect home base for exploring the many outfitters and trailheads in the Shenandoah Valley. (Note: a portion of the road is gravel therefore we highly encourage 4WD)

With a large dining room table and a spacious kitchen that leads into a size-able family room, the cabin is perfect for a group of six looking to relax and lounge.

The Riverfront
You’ll have full access to the four acre property, which includes a path that leads right down to a private river waterfront — right on the banks of the tranquil Shenandoah River. From here you can use the canoe that is available to our guests or bring your own kayak!

Other features include:
•Gas fireplace
•3 Outdoor fire pits (firewood provided)
•Fenced dog run
•Your very own zip line
•Swinging day-bed on the front porch

Other things to note:
•While the property is waterfront, there is a short walk between the cabin and river bank (no “beach” area).
•Cabin has satellite internet, which is decent but not super fast. TV can connect to streaming apps. (Please keep in mind that this is a rural area and cell reception can be spotty at times)

Guests get to enjoy all 4 acres of private property that includes 200 feet of river front.

There are small trails and 3 fire pits throughout the property, as well as its own fenced dog run.

I am available for any questions via the chat function - I respond fairly quickly and happy to go over anything that comes up!

The cabin is a 30 min drive to the town of Luray where you will find grocery stores and restaurants.

There are many attractions close by that include lots of hiking paths, river activities, visit to famous Luray Caverns and Luray Zoo.

The Cabin is located down Page Valley Road, and a portion of the drive is a gravel road which runs parallel to the Shenandoah River. We recommend driving a 4WD in the winter or when there is heavy rainfall as there are a couple of hills before getting to the Cabin.
There is plenty of parking for several cars on the property.

This is a very quiet and tranquil area of the Shenandoah River, noise needs to be contained past 10pm and before 8am. Nature will do the rest.

Good property…bad smell

The property was very clean, but smelled like weed when we arrived. Additionally, the hot tub did not work.

The cabin was nicely appointed with comfort in mind. Clean, neat, private & comfortable. Plenty of cooking & eating utensils, bathroom essentials and great cable TV. Communication with the owner was quick and very effective with great guidelines up front. We enjoyed our stay in South Fork Retreat and the hiking in Shenandoah Nat'l Park.

Excellent fall getaway!

Gabby was an excellent host and quick to respond to our questions and troubleshoot as needed. The house was spacious and very well appointed, great sunlight and expansive grounds in secluded area. Not a riverfront property per se, but you can walk down a trail across the main road to get to the river. Definitely recommend!

Lovely Secluded Cabin

Lovely property located next to the river with a canoe available for use. We spent many of our days paddling the river and fishing. Fire ring(s) on the property provided peaceful nights to reflect fireside and relax after our day. Loved the screen in porch with the day bed swing! Property owner was very responsive and provided information prior to our arrival that was extremely helpful, if we ever return we would be booking here again!!

Great Fishing Weekend w/Friends

The house was great. Perfect for 4 friends doing our annual Shenandoah river canoe/fishing trip. Even though the house is up off the river, the common area access area is great and easy to use. Highly recommend. Thanks Gaby!

Great week at the River

My family enjoyed our week at the river. The cabin was very nice and clean. All the cabin amenities were exactly as described. We enjoyed having morning coffee on the screened in porch listening to all the different birds in the area. Our only concern was how close the cabin is to the road but there is hardly any traffic so that was not a problem at all. Gaby was great and promptly answered any questions or concerns we had. She was a great host. Thank you for a great week.

Remote Getaway

Everything was as advertised. The cabin was very clean and well appointed. The hanging trundle bed on the front screened in porch was awesome during the cool evenings. As listed in the details, we used the neighbors steps to access the river without any issue. The walk to the river is short on a well cleared trail. The cabin is remote, which is exactly what we were looking for. The cabin is 30 minutes from Luray with the last seven miles of the drive being a gravel road along the river. As stated in other reviews, internet access was slow/limited; but again, we were looking to unplug. On the last day there, we had a problem with the A/C but the property manager and owner were very responsive in addressing our concerns and that was on the Sunday before Labor Day. We will certainly consider this as a top option when looking for a future get away.

Secluded and quiet

We enjoyed our stay for the most part. The house was very clean and comfortable. The satellite TV and internet went out every night of our stay leaving us with nothing to do or ability to get ahold of the property owner. Access to the river was not as described, either We rented this property in order to go kayaking on the river. We were told that there was access from the property but it just led to a very muddy cliff. We could get in the river from there but could not get out without trekking down to the neighbor's property which seemed to annoy them. We really loved the house and furnishings but work needs to be done on the property for better access and communications.

Sophisticated Cabin in the Woods!

Very nice and "sophisticated" cabin in the woods. The furnishings are nice and everything was clean and ready for our use. This is not your typical rustic cabin but way above that in terms of a nice cozy interior. The huge screened in porch was our favorite feature! The large swinging bed was perfect for relaxing and reading. The large fire pit area with provided wood was great. It was very far back page valley road, we were surprised to make it to Luray and our GPS told us we still had a 45 minute drive. We looked on the map and saw that Shenandoah Park was only a couple miles from us but you cannot get there without going all the way back to Luray and then up the other side of the river, about an hour drive. Just need to plan accordingly, it is not a short trip to anywhere! The river front area was a bit challenging to access, the path in front of the house that leads to the river front is a bit steep so we chose to go around, turned left out of the cabin and walked down the road and then turned right and went on the smaller access road to get to the river. This was about a 10 minute walk. The host was very responsive and immediately filled in any missing detail or question we had. It is nice to see a cabin that allows dogs. Our dog had a great time vacationing with us, hanging out on the front porch, reading and relaxing - a perfect time away for us - thanks!

Just what I needed when I need it!

First of all I want to say Gaby is a phenomenal host! She made my myself and my children feel extra special on arrival with a handpicked assortment of goodies for my boys. Having booked this trip as a “Dadaway” for me and my kids when we needed things to be just right, she delivered! Her house is amazing, large, well stocked perfectly appointed, warm and inviting. The vibe of the cabin conveyed a special feeling that was felt by all. The yard and grounds were perfect. Kids loved the zip line, fire pit, and provided canoe. A little downhill to the river on the path and somewhat slippery, but we’ll worth the trip to the main event. We went for the fishing, but had a brief setback on the bank as it’s somewhat steep and access to the water is difficult at this time. Nothing a short rope and 5 foot decent won’t fix! It very obvious Gaby is working the property and looks to be preparing the site for maybe steps or a dock. Only my thoughts based on what I see 😊 Though originally thought to be a bit of a problem, the river access and location made it well worth it. She has a great clearing by the rivers edge. We set chairs and a hotshot stove on the bank for a days fun. We also entered the river, very shallow from her property, maybe 2 feet at best that entire side of the river. The middle of the river is where the fun is! Very shallow, maybe 6 inches where we set chairs and our gear up on exposed rock formations. Opposite the rock, long line of deep holes perfect for swimming, canoeing, fishing, and magnet fishing! Caught better than 3 dozen large smallmouth, largemouth, catfish, and Rock Bass. Swimming did not disappoint either, very clean and crystal clear water! All and all probably the best place and stay I have ever experienced in all my years of renting in the Shenandoah Valley. I cannot thank Gaby enough! She and her property are an experience and I hope anyone who reads this is able to enjoy it as much as we did! Thank you Gaby! We won’t ever forget our experience with you and we will be back very soon! Dave

Family

Home was so beautiful and spacious but cozy. Mom loved the fireplace. Visiting my mom’s sister and my cousin in Luray, the large table and outdoor swing brought us together with many memories and laughs shared. Mom is 88 so had to move all throw rugs for safety. Definitely 30 minutes to town so a lot of driving to get and return family home. However we all loved the property and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Hi! I am Gaby and I am so grateful you will be staying at our beloved South Fork Retreat. I am originally from Nicaragua where I grew up surrounded by so much natural beauty, which is no surprise that when I came across the Shenandoah River area I immediately fell in love.
I am a General Contractor and own a renovation company (www.guildpropertiesllc.com) so beautiful spaces and transformations are at the core of my passion and the drive behind each of my properties.
I enjoy quiet walks in nature, s'mores by a campfire and cuddling with my family and dog. My hope is that you get to do the same and unplug from our busy lives during your stay at South Fork Retreat.

Why they chose this property

Nestled in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley and surrounded by so much untouched beauty we came across South Fork Retreat on a hot summer day. As we drove up to the house the whole thing seemed like a fairy tale: lush trees and vegetation, a glistening river with the sound of birds and nature (and not the sound of the hustle and bustle of civilization!). I immediately realized we had encountered a dream property. With its own river front private land, a dog run, and its own zip line this was truly an experience waiting to be discovered. The Cabin was perfect, with the most beautiful and cozy porch swing and an amazing fireplace that makes the living room the perfect cozy spot for endless cuddles or late nights of deep conversation with friends. It immediately captured me. It was love at first sight!

What makes this property unique

The home has its own zip line in the back of the property, a beautifully built fire pit area, a dog run that is fully fenced in which is perfect for your furry companions to be safe to enjoy so much beautiful outdoor space. There is a shed that doubles as a playhouse within the dog run. A short walk down the property through the most beautiful woods takes you to your private river front area, where you can enjoy the Shenandoah river and all its natural beauty. The spot is perfect for fly fishing, kayaking and taking a dip in the river. We assure you that it is truly a heavenly spot where you get to breathe in fresh mountain air and disconnect completely.
The Cabin is on the upper part of the property and the river front is a walk down the property. You have access to full property including a nice walk down to the river bank to enjoy the tranquility of the Shenandoah.
