About this property
Single room for 1 guest with 12m² in Steingaden (121776)
Welcome to the Pension at the Klosterpforte Steingaden!
The "Girodano Bruno" is a single room of our house on the first floor.
East side, morning sun, towards the Münster / Klosterhof.
High room with barrel vaults, windows in the monastery courtyard with a view of the cathedral, directly above the gate.
The space, with a travertine stone floor, murals and high-quality furnishings for the indirect lighting of the vault, should take into account the centuries of the history of the space, yet provide all the necessary modern comforts to make your stay a memorable one.
The "Giordano Bruno" can be reached via a separate entrance, directly in the cloister gate, via a staircase and the foyer. It is located in the vaulted arch directly above the gate to the interior of the former monastery. From the window you have views of the old farm buildings, the courtyard and the cathedral.
The stylish bathroom, which you share with the "Principessa Nera", you will receive a basket with all the necessary, such as towels, soap, floor mats. Everything is of course changed daily if necessary.
Cooled drinks and glasses are available in the foyer for self-service.
Breakfast is included and we will be happy to serve it in the foyer or in your room, preparing it for your choice and wishes. (The breakfast is rich. Some extras are charged, for example. Scrambled eggs, prosecco or champagne)
The patron saint GIORDANO BRUNO:
The great scholar Giordano Bruno, born in 1548 in Nola, was a priest, poet, philosopher and astronomer. He postulated the infinity of space and its eternal duration, believing in the infinity of God's love and his omnipresence, and not believing that we must fear God and the recent judgment. Nor did he believe that it was necessary to regard the world as the center of the cosmos, but that we do not give up the possibility of believing in the possibility of the existence of many other worlds, beyond the limited possibilities of our mind. And he probably believed that at best this would increase God and His creation.
But this was not the opinion of Pope Clement VIII, who had him imprisoned and tortured for 7 years to force him to change his views. But Giordano was obviously stuck in his love and faith. On the 17th His tongue was tied in February 1600 because he was afraid he might speak to the people and he was burned at the Campo de 'Fiori in Rome, his writings banned.
But his writings survived and influenced scholars and poets such as Pierre Gassendi, Baruch de Spinoza, Lucilio Vanini, Friedrich Schelling, Galileo Galilei, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. That the Catholic Church denounces the condemnation today (since 2000) as injustice, we almost dare not to mention, because for this simple knowledge she had needed 400 years.
The vault where you stay here was built during Giordano Bruno's lifetime. And we want to contribute to remember this great scholar. And to all those who today, as he did then, advocate something that you think is true and worthy, even against the rest of the world.
