About this property

Eden Cottage Countryside Retreat

Summary:
Relax and unwind in an Idyllic Irish Retreat. This is the perfect traditional countryside home from which to explore Western Ireland! Eden is large yet cozy, complete with all modern amenities. Tucked on a hillside, trees dot the edges of the beautiful one-acre yard.

The Space:
Open the door. Eden Retreat wraps its arms around you from the moment you walk inside. This home is an ideal hideaway for one or more couples traveling together. It’s also a great lodging for families and friends to gather.

Eden consists of a lovely main home and detached cottage with full bathroom. A 1,000 square foot covered deck surrounds the cottage, a portion of which is covered for all-weather enjoyment.
The main house features a spacious and inviting open-plan common area with kitchen, dining area and large comfortable living room. The 40" flat-screen TV has Sky satellite service, including subscription Sport & Movie channels. There are 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with showers in the main house.
The hot-tub cottage is a cheerful, bright space featuring an indoor hot tub encased in sandstone. The cottage has its own bathroom with shower, and may be used as a fifth bedroom on request. A full height, queen-size (and very comfortable!) air-bed will be dressed and ready on arrival should you need it.

This home is the best of both worlds. Peaceful and quiet, Eden is tucked on the outskirts of Ennis, a charming and bustling market town, and the capital of County Clare. Only 20 minutes from Shannon Airport, 30 minutes from Clare’s rugged scenic coast, and 3 minutes from the M18 motorway linking Galway & Limerick, Eden’s location is ideal for exploring the best of Western Ireland.

The stunning, peaceful ambiance of Irish nature is one step outside your back door. A custom-paved patio, perfect for parties and lounging, awaits you. Gracious sandstone walls and wooden steps lead through terraced lawns and flower gardens.

Eden Cottage Retreat is nearby all major attractions on Ireland's stunning west coast, including: The Cliffs of Moher, Galway City, The Aran Islands, Doolin Village, Bunratty Castle, Adare Heritage Village, Cork & the Blarney Stone, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry. The long sandy beach and promenade at surf-mecca Lahinch is just 30 minutes away.

And don't worry, Eden offers a speedy Wi-Fi connection!

Guest Access:
Guests will have the entire House & Hot-Tub Cottage at their disposal. Eden Retreat comfortably sleeps 9 adults.

The Neighborhood:
Eden Retreat is located 4 miles north of the town of Ennis. Ennis gets its name from the Irish word “inis” (island) because it is virtually surrounded by the River Fergus, a melodious presence throughout. The streets of Ennis are narrow and charming, with many areas pedestrianized. There are plenty of locals here—Ennis is no tourist trap—and you’ll hear voices that are raised in laughter or storytelling in bakeries and bookstores alike. The Friary at the bottom of Abbey Street was founded by the O’Briens in the 13th century. Many of its original features survive. It’s breath-taking and has a textured silence that speaks through the centuries.

Why the Owner Chose Ennis:
The main attraction in Ennis is the locals’ love of traditional Irish music. The town is renowned as a hub of 'trad' music, and musicians of the highest quality are on display in the pubs of Ennis throughout the year. It often seems that those in town who can't sing or play an instrument are very much in the minority! Ennis is located near all the best attractions in the West of Ireland including the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Galway, Limerick, Cork, the Blarney Stone and an array of beautiful beaches.

Getting Around:
Eden Retreat is just 15 minutes from Shannon Airport, 2.5 hours from Dublin Airport.
There is ample private parking on-site.
As the house is not served by public transportation (other than taxis), having a rental car is essential.

Other Things to Note:
Electricity and Heating Oil Usage are included in listed rates

Interaction with Guests:
The owners of Eden Retreat have worked in the travel industry for 20 years, and are delighted to share their wealth of local and countrywide knowledge with guests.

Family Reunion in Clare
Wonderful experience from the first contact with the owner until the final day! Beautiful house and grounds. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, patio was great for morning coffee and yoga. Easy access to Ennis which has great pubs, shops and places to gather with extended family. Owner/host was amazingly helpful, answering many questions and providing detailed driving directions and great suggestions for dining and shopping. Highly recommend this beautiful property!

Eden Indeed
Our family of eight spent four wonderful days at Eden Retreat. The house is nicely appointed and equipped. We could all eat breakfast together in the dining area off of the kitchen. Our teen had her own lair in the house that has the hot tub. The yards are beautifully maintained. Moreover, the retreat is well located just North of with convenient access to West Clare and The Burren. Highly recommend.

Family week in Ennis
We had a wonderful week at the Eden Retreat in Ennis. It was a home base as we traveled to the west coast and Limerick and all around. Our kids loved the different books, toys, games and even dress up options and we loved that there was plenty of space to have down time, as well as super comfortable beds and a nice kitchen and dining area. We also loved the hot tub and the patio yard area. It was perfect for our family of 6. Would definitely return!

Perfection!
We took my mom for her 70th birthday, Ennis Retreat did not disappoint . The house was perfect, the views from the home were breathtaking . Quick trip into the quaint town of Ennis. Short drive to the Cliffs and about an hour to Galway . Mark is a perfect host, responds so quickly to any question. I would recommend his home to anyone looking for a little country but close enough to the pubs, cafes and restaurants . - One minor suggestion, house needs a full length mirror for us ladies to see our full outfit before going out on the town .. lol

Lovely Home for a large group
This lovely home located just 10 minutes outside of Ennis was the perfect home for our large group of 9 adults. Communication with the host was prompt. Check in was great and got late check out no problem. Home accommodated all of us with enough bathrooms as well. The guest house with the hottub was great for one of our couples. You have sheep in your backyard which is very Irish. If you are touring around the west coast this is a perfect location. Would recommend this lovely home for small or large groups. Thanks so much for everything.

We all had a wonderful stay, great for touring County Clare. The house is very cosy.
The house is everything it said it would be and more. What a lovely county to explore with rugged coastline, forest walks and tourist trails… Clare has it all. Then to have a tot-tub to come home to in the evening, sheer bliss, what more can I say.

Relaxing retreat
We booked this property in January because it had hot tub and we were planning on an Irish rainy holiday, as it turned out it came in very useful to cool down in the evenings. We were three generation family and plenty room for all. A short run to Ennis for outside dining and had many takeaways outside on the deck in the cool of the evening. The nearby lake was a great attraction for kayaking etc and Lahinch about thirty minute journey. A very enjoyable Staycation

Eden Retreat: A Real Treat
Absolutely beautiful, spacious property with wonderful amenities. (TV Offerings were great!) The only slight drawbacks are: The back door was a little tricky to open and the deck around the hot tub is quite slippery when wet and/or frosty. We were careful, however, and had a fabulous stay. I would certainly recommend your retreat to my friends. Thank you very much. Jackie Briand

"It felt like home"
Wow!! This place was amazing! A spacious, beautiful home out in the country with all the amenities you could possibly need. This was the third and final home that a group of 8 of us rented during a two week visit to London and Ireland and it was easily the best of the three. As one person said, "Walking through the doors for the first time it felt like home." The hot tub was amazing and just what we needed to relax after the hustle and bustle of the previous 10 days and the house itself was roomy and beautiful. We even got daily visits from Charlie, the neighbour's friendly dog. While you'll likely want a car if you book this place (and the roads are a little tight if you're used to North American driving), Ennis is a short 10 minute drive away and has anything you need. We set up in this location for three nights and used it as a home base while making day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, and Ashford Castle for some falconry (highly recommended!!!). It was a great location for exploring the western side of Ireland and we would all highly recommend it to any groups looking for a place to stay in the area.

Eden Cottage retreat was wonderful!
We loved our stay at the Eden retreat. It was bigger and more charming than i expected it to be. The location was great! We visited several sites in the area with no problem. It was a pleasant 'retreat" from the city. We enjoyed seeing the sheep every day and our visits from Charlie. The view was lovely. We used the hot tub several times and it was enjoyed by all. My husband kept referring to it as the Shire! We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing space and central point for visiting that area of Ireland. Thank you MarK!

Wonderful Stay in Ennis
Our group of five recently stayed three nights in the Eden Cottage Retreat. It truly lives up to its name. Booking was easy and Mark was always quick and helpful in his responses to any inquiry. He provided a wonderful overview of the area and excellent directions to the house. The house itself is beautiful, well kept and had all the amenities we needed. It is nestled away so you feel as if you are in your own little world at the edge of a wonderful vista of green hills, yet it's only a five to ten minute drive to shopping and restaurants. The house is also very near the M18, which links Ennis conveniently to Shannon Airport and runs from Galway to Limerick and beyond, making the house an excellent location for exploring the west of Ireland. We were able to easily take day trips to Ennis, Connemara, Galway, the Cliffs of Moher, and we even ventured as far as the Dingle Peninsula. Dingle was about two hours, but it is a beautiful drive and well worth the time, in my view. Had we stayed a bit longer, we may have used the hot tub, which is a nice bonus, but we were there long enough to get a visit from Charlie : ) I would highly recommend the Eden Cottage Retreat and we hope to return someday!

It really is an Eden! Wonderful!
Eden Retreat is the perfect place for a family vacation in beautiful County Clare, and a convenient base for day trips all over western Ireland from Connemara to Killarney. Located on a tiny back road in gorgeous quiet country, but just a 10 minute drive into lively Ennis. The property is accurately depicted and described on the Homeaway website. It was well-maintained, beds were very comfortable, appliances all worked fine, kitchen was well equipped, hot tub was awesome, wifi was good, fire place worked nicely, etc. The host was extremely helpful and answered many, many questions via email that helped us prepare for our first trip to Ireland. READ THE HOUSE MANUAL CAREFULLY. It has important information you will need to know, especially if you not used to Irish homes (which have some strange quirks if you are American, as we are). Great for kids: large yard with a play structure, adorable dog (Charlie) who visited each day from next door, cattle and sheep in the pasture, plenty of room inside the house and a nice TV. Accessibility: quite good. One of the four bedrooms (with queen bed) is on the ground floor, also a full bathroom with shower stall. No steps between the gravel driveway and the house. No area rugs. Paved walk runs around the house next to the driveway. Good for someone with a cane or walker. Bathroom rather small for a wheelchair, but the rest of the downstairs pretty good. Wooden floor downstairs, carpeted stairs and second floor. Cab to/from Ennis is about 13 Euros if no one wants to be designated driver. Cabs were easy to flag in town. We had good luck parking during the day at the Glor Irish Music Center, a couple of blocks away from the center of town, 8 hour parking for only 3.90 Euros, less traffic to contend with. Glor Irish Music in your GPS should bring it up. It is quite convenient to all the in-town grocery stores (maybe a five minute walk). The little grocery store on the Tulla Road near the house is more like a large convenience store. Dunnes is a vast store where you can buy about everything. We didn’t visit the others. Despite on-line claims that traditional Irish music happens “every night” in the pubs of Ennis, we found that on weekends they seem to go in for amplified American oldies. The locals told us that Monday through Thursday between around 8:00 and 10:00 p.m. is when you’re more likely to find traditional acoustic music, and indeed we had good luck on a Monday, especially at Cruises.

Wonderful place in the Irish countryside
We could not have been happier with Eden Retreat. There were 6 of us, and we had plenty of room. It was a short distance from Ennis, a lovely Irish town. The house was very well equipped, however we chose to mostly eat out. It has a lovely hot tub room, but again, we never took advantage of it. We had such lovely weather the whole time we were there, so spent much of the time touring around. Mark was fantastic at advising of things to do, and places to eat in the area, and was quick to reply to any questions we had. We would not hesitate to stay at the house again, and in fact, already miss waking up to the sound of the birds in the morning.

Ennis gets its name from the Irish word “inis” (island) because it is virtually surrounded by the River Fergus, a melodious presence throughout. The streets of Ennis are narrow and charming, and some do not allow cars. There are plenty of locals here—Ennis is no tourist trap—and you’ll hear voices that are raised in laughter or storytelling in bakeries and bookstores alike. It’s breath-taking and has a textured silence that speaks through the centuries.

Why they chose this property

But, the main attraction in Ennis is the locals’ love of traditional music. Every year on the month of May, Ennis hosts Fleadh Nua, an international celebration of Irish culture, and in November the Ennis Trad Festival is held. But traditional music of the highest quality is on display in the pubs of Ennis throughout the year. It often seems that those in town who can't sing or play an instrument are very much in the minority!

Ennis is located near all the best attractions in the West of Ireland including the Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Galway, Limerick, Cork, the Blarney Stone, the beautiful beaches.

What makes this property unique

Also, we can arrange a rental car, activities or other lodgings around the country should you wish to explore more of Ireland! We also can accept all major credit cards. The heating, electricity and cleaning fees are all part of the rental cost - there are no hidden charges. After years of working in the travel industry, we feel it is important to not charge anything extra!
