About this property

Historic Marshall Inn Private Rentals and weddings - Still open after Helene

***The Inn is open and gratefully suffered no damage during Helene, we have power, normal water services (potable water) and wifi***
This listing is for private group rental but the Inn is also available for individual room rentals.

When visiting the mountains in the Asheville NC area, you may not be able to stay at the Biltmore, but you can rent this renovated seven-bedroom/six-bathroom mansion built by the Biltmore's supervising resident and completing architect, Richard Sharp Smith. Only 25-minutes from downtown Asheville, the Marshall House Inn is on the National Register of Historic Places. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, you will be a short drive from the music of Asheville, the Appalachian Trail and the Great Smokies.

The Inn is also available to host weddings and other events while your group is staying with us, please send us an inquiry for additional details!

The space
20 guests can stay on property comfortably (based on two guests per bed as there are 6 King beds, 2 queen beds and two queen size pullout sofas though I have listed up to 24 guests as we are open to additional guests (there is some room for you to bring blow up mattresses), particularly if they are children.

With a living room on the ground floor and the second floor, dining tables to accommodate 16 guests (a main dining room table for eight which is open to another two tables, each seating four, in the adjacent living spaces), a game room, fire pit, and 7 bedrooms/6 bathrooms, there are enough spaces for your large group to both come together and spread out as desired.

The Marshall House Inn is conveniently located between Asheville and Hot Springs in the middle of the Blue Ridge mountains. Whether you want to take in the breweries, galleries or shops of Asheville, visit the Biltmore House, spend time outdoors or just relax, you’ll not find a better location from which to start. With over 55,000 acres of National forest you’ll find lots of opportunities for whitewater rafting, hiking, fishing, biking and zip lining.

If you would like to hang out around the house, there's plenty to do between the many books to read on the long covered patio overlooking the French Broad River, enjoying the 65" Samsung smart TV, chess, games and a poker setup in the cozy second floor living room, cooking on the six-burner gas stove or on the outdoor Weber gas grill, roasting s'mores by the fire pit or playing a game of ping pong, skee-ball or giant jenga (there's a TV in the game room as well). We hope to host you and your group soon!

There is one large parking spot at the front of the building and six or so cars can park comfortably in the parking lot in the back though I have seen several more than that fit with very careful, valet-style parking.

If you have over 16 guests the pullout sofas are included in the additional guest fee (one sofa included for 17-18 guests, 2 sofas for 19-20) though please still request the sofas in your inquiry so a note can be made for the housekeeping team. If you have fewer than 16 guests and need the pullout sofas there will be an additional $50 fee (plus tax) per pullout sofa to account for the housekeeping team's bed setup and additional loads of laundry. Thanks and please let me know of any questions!

Charming Home in Quaint Mountain Town
We loved the Marshall House Inn. The hosts thought of everything you might need. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Great place for a large group. The kitchen is well equipped. There is a ping pong table, fire pit and a room for games or a family movie night. The restaurants we visited were terrific. There is plenty of hiking in the area. It was the perfect place to chill out on the front porch with a view of the town.

Lovely property, lovely town, lovely stay!
Our 15 member extended family (including two small dogs!) found this property the perfect mix of large private spaces with still enough room on the porch and in the various living areas to gather as a group. The overlook of the town was beautiful, and there were just enough establishments within walking distance to keep it interesting while still feeling like we could make it to all of them! Beautiful drives in and out were the icing on the cake. Hosts were helpful and gracious, very highly recommend!!

Fabulous historic property
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this historic inn in Marshall, NC. Our travel party included ages 2-70. There was plenty of space for everyone! The home was very clean, the beds were comfortable, and despite the home being historic, it had been updated nicely and included all modern amenities. The home owner/property manager was very accessible and check-in and check-out processes were very easy. The home is walking distance to downtown Marshall- a cute mountain town with a handful of restaurants, shops, and a brewery. We visited in the winter, so did not explore local hiking trails. Overall, we were very happy with this house and would stay again!

Super House
Our family has been renting a house at Christmas for over ten years. This was our favorite. The house is big and comfortable. The amenities were great. We enjoyed the ping pong and other games. And we spent time around the fire pit. It was just right for our family.

Wonderful historic home
We had a great experience at Marshall House Inn. My family of 12 adults and two children stayed and everyone had plenty of room to spread out. The owner was incredibly responsive and helpful with a couple of questions we had. Marshall is a tiny cute town and we had fun exploring. Would definitely stay again.

The best experience using an online booking service yet.
The Marshall House Inn has the best view of downtown Marshall you could ask for. Sitting on the porch taking in the river with the sun shining is a true gift to experience. We used this venue for our wedding and I can't say enough about how fit the property is for an event like this. Everyone was amazed with the house itself and the surroundings. It's located in the heart of Marshall so there is a lot to do just steps away from the front door. We have some really great wedding pictures both on the property and downtown. We used down on the bridge for our first look. I can't wait to get these pictures back. It felt so magical! We did have some kid's with us so the game room was a welcomed spot for their entertainment, as was the park just across the bridge. If you have older kid's you can see them from the porch to keep an eye on them. The diner and zuma are really wonderful places to grab a bite to eat or have lunch/dinner. Nothing fancy, but really nice with a small town feel. I loved how easy this felt. From the booking process on Lyndy was extremely helpful in making our day and stay the best experience we have had yet. I will be back for sure. I'm thinking how great it would be to spend Christmas at the Inn and it's only May. lol Thank you to our host. You made a girl's dreams come true. We will forever cherish these memories.

Hosted my wedding reception
I rented the Inn to host my wedding reception. The Inn is so elegant that I did minimal decorating. The caterer set up on the expansive porch. I had about 30 guests and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit and eat.

Perfect Choice for a Wedding Party!
Our friends were getting married in Asheville, and we booked the house for the entire wedding party. We also hosted the rehearsal dinner on the large patio, and it was perfect! We all had plenty of space with separate rooms and bathrooms, and we enjoyed the common areas where we could gather together. The house is beautifully decorated and very clean. The property was also the prefect location for wedding photos! We had an amazing time. Thanks for all your help Lindy!

Mansion on the French Broad River
We were familiar with the property when it was a bed and breakfast and were excited to now be able to rent the whole property for our extended family’s trip. It was also kind of cool to stay in a mansion built by the Biltmore’s architect. We spent most of our time enjoying the game room and fire pit but it was also nice to walk to downtown Marshall and it wasn’t too far from downtown Asheville either. Thanks for a great trip!

About the host

Host profile image
I'm a Cornell Hotel School graduate with nearly 20 years of experience in hotel operations, catering and events. I am looking forward to having you enjoy this fabulous historic home that has been renovated with all of the modern comforts. The property is also permitted to host events and I would be happy to discuss hosting your wedding or event, send me a message if you would like to discuss!

Why they chose this property

Renovated in 2016, the Marshall House Inn is a unique mansion built as a private residence in 1903 and listed on the national register of historic places. Designed by the supervising architect and completing architect of the Biltmore Estate, Richard Sharp Smith, the house is built in the English vernacular style. The house was converted into a ‘Tourist Home’ in the 1920s and has been welcoming guests to Marshall ever since. Previously run as a bed and breakfast and I refurbished it earlier this year. It's a beautiful and unique property with so much history and charm.
