About this property

Estate Guesthouse ~ Glorious Water Views ~ 2 Private Beaches!

Superb fields-to-ocean-to-islands views from this charming guesthouse, on a historic Chilmark property. You'll enjoy a wealth of beach options. Squibnocket beach is only 5-minutes away by car. Below the house is our private, child-safe (no surf) beach on lake-like Menemsha Pond (3 minutes by car). Or enjoy key access to our 2nd private beach -- a spectacular site on the South Shore, offering both ocean surf and pond swimming (15 minutes by car).
Large bay windows bring the 10-mile view right into the house.... or you can savor it first-hand from chairs on the quiet, sunny front porch. Upstairs: watch sailboat races on the inland ponds from two bright bedrooms (one king, one double twin/king), and spot rabbits or deer on the estate lawn from the upstairs study (daybed). Downstairs: the sofa pulls out to a bed in the living area (with adjacent handicap-access bathroom/shower room) to accommodate a wheelchair-bound guest. Efficient kitchen, washer/dryer, internet, cable TV, music, games and library promote easy relaxation at home! In fall and winter the house is a snuggery, with warm bedding, central heat.
[Please note: our small, historic but efficient staircase may prove a bit steep for the elderly, those with infirmities, or small pets].

Make your own memories in this historic property!: Lovey's Cottage guesthouse is part of the hilltop Tower House estate, an up-island landmark for its Queen Anne, yellow-painted main house with red roof, and ball-topped tower. The property has changed hands only once since beginning as a multi-acre farm in the early 1800's. It has been in our family for over 50 years now -- and is being cared for by a third generation for whom the estate property was their great summertime home.

Be private -- or part of your own larger group. Lovey's Cottage has its own parking and front entrance through a small walled garden that gives onto the beautiful view. Carefully designed to work as a completely independent and private residence, Lovey's can also be rented together with the Tower House* (which sleeps 10, in 5 bedrooms) -- an arrangement which works very well for weddings, or large groups of friends, or a family with varying needs and ages. Lovey's can be a wonderful solution for grandparents needing separate and quiet time, for in-laws valuing their personal space, or even for a young family with children's nap-time or early-bedtime requirements.

Enjoy the fall, or spring: Lovey's Cottage, with its central heat, is a wonderful spot to spend an off-season week, holiday, or get-away break. The rolling up-island landscape affords splendid open views, town beaches are accessible for long seaside walks, and island staffers at restaurants, attractions, and boutiques can take more time to welcome and converse with you than in their busier months. Many stores and services stay open into late fall, and re-open in early spring, so there's a 'buzz' to savor in these non-summer months!

Great views, but old, and dirty
This rental actually looks great online and we were very excited to stay at Lovey's. Upon arrival, the place was old and dirty -- crumbs and dirt inside the pullout sofa, ring around the tub, rust around the basin, nasty blankets, towels and rugs oh, and yes, a mouse. The dryer was broken and the rental company said that the owners were aware and had ordered a new one -- when were they going to tell us this? Three of the five beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. There was only one beach towel for 5 people, and no beach amenities except a lame umbrella that constantly blew away. After calling the management company they were great. They came and tried as best they could to provide additional things we needed and we were allowed to use the owners dryer. Oh and one day a handyman just showed up to do some work while we were eating lunch and my daughter was showering. Pros were AMAZING views and close access to a lovely, quiet salt water pond as well as a coveted key to Hancock. Beach.

Our vacation couldn’t have been more perfect! The house was cozy and comfortable. The views were amazing as were the hosts/owner. The house has great touches throughout including puzzles, games, beach items - so thought! The area is wonderful. We spent a lovely family vacation at the cottage and will definitely be back!

Relaxing Stay in Chilmark
Had a nice time at Lovey’s Cottage in Chilmark. The property was beautiful with a spectacular view of Menemsha pond. Unique historical home although could use some maintenance/upgrades to make it a 5 star property. Stairs are very steep and take some getting used to. Private beach access was an awesome perk. Hosts provided lots of useful information. Kitchen was well equipped and plenty of linens, towels, and other supplies.

Relaxing getaway in Chilmark
My family and I spent a fantastic week in this beautiful cottage, and as a result had a much-needed, very relaxing first time on Martha’s Vineyard. We loved the peaceful water views and the cottage’s coziness, especially on those windy, foggy, rainy up-island days, but also spent many wonderful hours on the two(!) gorgeous private beaches getting away from it all. Bob and Kim, thank you so much for your warm hospitality and for making our first visit such a memorable one!

Perfect location!!
We have been vacationing at MV for a few decades. Lovely’s Cottage is located in one of our favorite spots on the island! The close proximity to Menemsha and the beautiful sunsets coupled with being up island away from the hustle and bustle is our idea of a great vacation! The cottage was absolutely perfect with everything we needed! The owners were very responsive when I found myself accidentally locked out! We highly recommend Lovey’s Cottage and would definitely stay here again!

Charming, rustic Chilmark cottage stay
The location and views cannot be beat and the cottage truly is laid out perfectly for a family of 4. We spent most beach days at Squibnocket given the proximity but loved the private beach access to Hancock. There isn't any A/C which mostly didn't present an issue since there's a really nice cross breeze but we had some hot nights. The owner was super responsive and attentive. Only constructive feedback is for the clean up crew: there was a decent amount of evidence of the prior guests that hadn't been addressed when we arrived.

Sublime experience all around.
I am reluctant to tell you this was a perfect experience bc I fear it will be biookwd up for next year before I get a chance to pick my time slot. But the truth is: we loved it. No complaints at all. If I had to be super picky... I wish there was a place on property to dispose of recyclables. But... if that’s my ONLY issue, you can imagine how great it was.

Loved this spot in Chilmark. The whole family really enjoyed themselves. Bob the owner was fantastic. The realtor also jumped in to assist on minor set backs. Beach was gorgeous and the views everywhere were just spectacular. Overall it was a fabulous family vacation. Hope to make it an annual trip! 🌻

Great stay, perfect location!
Our family of five had a great stay at this little cottage. During Covid, alot was closed but we were still able to get takeout from the fish markets and grill on the deck overlooking the beautiful views every night. Loved watching the deer in the meadow below. Access to the private beach was great as most days we were the only people there. We have been renting on the island for years and always stay in the Chilmark or Aquinnah neighborhood as we prefer it to the busier side of the island. This little cottage was one of our favorite rentals and we would love to come back again! The only complaint we had was the Wi-Fi was not working at all. Sometimes we could sporadically connect to the house next-door but this was difficult with two adults working remotely and three children doing schoolwork. We had called the real estate office but they were unable to resolve our issue. Also the patio furniture is a bit weathered and broken and needs to be replaced. These things did not stop us from having a most fantastic stay at this lovely little cottage!!

Serene and charming stay
Stayed with my husband and our 2 year old daughter. Historical charming cottage on immaculate breathtaking property. Curated art, furniture, and decor added to the vibe of the cottage, the library wall and game cabinets gave us plenty to do during leisurely evenings. Private beach around the corner was empty and perfectly shallow for our daughter to splash in. Location is relaxed with plenty of trails and farms nearby. We got a tour of the historical property next door which was a treat! Loved drinking coffee and grilling on the deck overlooking the ocean. Thank you for a wonderful week!

Wonderful peaceful cottage
Great getaway, would go again in a heartbeat! The cottage was prepared and waiting for us, the management couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. Fantastic views out over Menemsha pond and Vineyard Sound, close to some great beaches. Good kitchen, living room, deck, grill. Nice bedrooms, and the hot water in the shower came up really fast. Away from the madding crowd, but not remote. Fantastic place for a restorative vacation.

A splendid stay in a very magical setting.
Had a splendid week at Lovey’s Cottage with family this June. What’s not to love about Lovey’s? A warm, intimate and inviting retreat nestled on several acres of privacy with views across golden fields and salt ponds to Menensha and the ocean. Found this to be the perfect setting for everything we were seeking......quiet, the time to reconnect, biking, hiking, kayaking, and the beach. Lovey’s is very well appointed and quite exquisite without being overly fussy, with several comfortable bedrooms and very comfy beds, up to date bathrooms, and a living room and porch that proved to be the perfect place to gather with family and friends while reliving the day’s events. The thing we particularly appreciated is that Lovey’s is the quintessential Vineyard we’ve known for decades. A true sanctuary among the growing busyness of the island where one can easily slip into the simple elegance of the past while enjoying all comforts of home and the present. Can assure you that dollar for dollar Lovey’s Cottage and its’ responsive owners won’t disappoint. Our whole hearted thanks for a wonderful stay.

Deceiving pictures
We were so excited to stay on Martha's Vineyard for the first time. Both of our daughters had recently graduated college and we decided this would be a wonderful graduation gift/family vacation. We searched the internet for the perfect place to stay. So we thought. When we arrived we ended up at the wrong driveway because the house before is called Lovey's. So we were very confused. We finally figured it out and arrived at the house after a 12 hr drive. The house was very musty smelling. The upstairs bathroom left a lot to be desired. There was hair in the bathtub (my husband cleaned it before anyone used it). And the shower curtains were moldy. I'm sorry, if you are charging someone that much money a night the place should be spotless and a $10 shower curtain can be changed. The toilet seat is gross. The beds are very uncomfortable. Linens were not clean. We slept on top of the bed. The steps are not easy to maneuver. My dogs could not even get up and down them. They need to update the pictures outside. There is a house right outside the deck blocking a lot of the ocean view. One positive was the landscaping. It was very nice. Also, they say they have the private beach. It was infested with ticks! I have never seen ticks on a beach before. It is also a nude beach. Whether they are allowed or not, people do it. Needless to say, it was not the ideal vacation we were hoping to have.

Picture Perfect Rental
Our experience renting this cottage was nothing short of perfect. The views from this property are truly gorgeous, and we spent so much time simply sitting on the deck enjoying coffee and breakfast (from the General Store!) or reading in the afternoon. The beautiful landscaping, wildlife (deer, birds, butterfly, etc), water views, and serenity can not be beat. The cottage was very comfortable for our group of 5. I am 8 months pregnant here with my husband, my older parents, and our 12 year old son. The downstairs is handicap accessible, complete with roll in shower/bathroom. One caveat: the stairs to the second floor are steep; I would consider bringing a baby gate and watching closely if traveling with small children. The house was FULLY equipped with everything we might need; in fact, it was better stocked than most rentals we have encountered. Trash bags, toilet paper, every kitchen appliance you might need, games, books, abundance of towels, hand soap...you name it, they have thoughtfully provided it. There is a small TV in the living room and a DVD player which we enjoyed in the evening watching a family movie. There is wifi throughout the house, though I am not sure about streaming speed - we didn't really test it, and brought DVDs with us. The house had fans in the rooms, but the open windows caught wonderful breezes in the evening and we were comfortable without AC. The house was spotlessly clean; no beachy mildew smells here! The location is not to be beat. Very close to the General Store, Lucy Vincent, Squibnocket, Menemsha, etc. We also had access to an incredible private beach accessible by key a little further down from LV. We were the only people there when we went, and it was spectacular. The cottage is next to the main house, and the family who owns it is incredibly kind and generous. We felt lucky to rent their home. They were very responsive to my (numerous!!!) questions and made us feel so welcome in renting their home. We just learned it is booked up for all of next August and are devastated as we would return in a heartbeat. We feel so fortunate to have spent a week at Lovey's!

So Lovely!
Our Sweet Spot. Here’s what we enjoy about Lovey’s Cottage, specifically: - Its open plan first-floor rooms: so the small house reads big. And upstairs, it sleeps up to six. - It’s always kept clean, neat, and very comfortably furnished. Linens, towels are all stocked too. - Its kitchen is well-equipped. Its library holds good books/games for kids (of many ages). - The view is amazing: all the way across the pond to Menemsha fishing village, and out over the Sound. - The sunny deck is where we spend a lot of time, hanging out, and enjoying the fabulous view. - The 2 private beaches are a big deal for us… Lovey’s beach (fantastic for small kids), and Hancock beach (bliss, no crowds!). - Plus 3 other public beaches only minutes from the house: Squibnocket, Lucy Vincent, and Aquinnah. - Wonderful restaurants within a 5-10 minute drive: Outermost, Chilmark Tavern, HomePort, Beach Plum. - A lot of nice island walking trails within close range of the house. - Grocery stores, gas, library, community center (with kids’ programs), farm stands and fish markets all in Chilmark and nearby Menemsha. Lovey’s Cottage is perfect for our smaller family units, and our guests, but with privacy from the Tower House, on the same property. Coming back here year after year – these are some of the best weeks of every summer for us!
