Had another great week
Having been there before, we knew what to expect and were very pleased. Understanding it was due to poor weather in New England, the only downside was the broken dock and inability to launch our kayaks quite as conveniently. Knowing this ahead of time would have helped us plan a little better.

Wonderful location
The setting was lovely, with the river at the bottom of the property. Lots of things were provided that often are not: aluminum foil, garbage bags, paper towels, napkins, etc. The house itself is quirky--getting to the lower level bedroom is via an extremely steep staircase, with a very low overhead. If the stove, the lighting, and especially the toilets were improved, a stay would be more comfortable.

Great find in Camden area
We were impressed by the charm of the Round House. Great location for quick trips to Camden and as a home base for exploring the Maine coast. We loved the dock. We brought our kayak so early morning or evenings in the river just added to the fun of the week. Great week at the Round House!

Excellent location from which to explore Coastal Maine
The house, deck and garden were very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Camden, Maine. The only issue we experienced was the presence of mosquitoes especially down by the boating dock. Overall though, the house is clean, fully equipped and an excellent base from which to enjoy Coastal Maine.

Most relaxing vacation ever
Three years and counting! My boyfriend and I have been coming here for years. And Everytime we come we always find new and exciting things to explore and do. This area definitely has something for everyone, from going to the local Beach's, to sailing or lobster tours and plenty of beautiful hiking, we never run out of options! The restaurant's in town are great, being a younger couple it's always fun to check out the "locals hang out" bar Cuzzy's where everyone is super friendly. But there are plenty of other options to eat from Pizza to seafood to five star restaurants, which is always a nice option for a special night :). We could eat our way through this town!! Even though we had one day of rain while staying it was nice to stay home and relax. The house is super cozy. We loved that could could sit in front of the huge open windows and watch the rain. The yard is beautiful and with access to the water it is awesome so swimming or kayking even though is was starting to get a little cold. With the mountians as a backdrop and the colors starting to change it's absolutely beautiful here. There is even a nice little park and beach next door which was great to bring the dog to. In the evenings sitting out on the back deck watching the stars might be my favorite part of this place it's so quiet and peaceful here you really can just relax from the very first moment you pull in. Having the house stocked with nice essentials is always a nice thing to have, less to pack! I've stayed at places before were you have to bring everything! But this house is alwasy fully stocked with soap, towels, bedding just about everything you need. Just bring your clothes and you're all set. After three years of staying we are always looking forward to next year!

great set up, worked perfectly for our family needs
My husband and I rented the round house with our two dogs for the first ten days in September. We had friends stop by for a few overnights and introduced them to adorable Camden and great restaurants. The weather cooperated so we happily were able to use the dock and swim in the warm calm river every day. The house was a perfect setup for what turned out to be a terrific vacation.

The house is clean, dog-friendly, well furnished and stocked, close to town, parks and to water.
We had a delightful week in The Round House. The house is as described on the web. It is very clean, comfortable, conscientiously furnished and supplied, right on the Megunticook River, and just a mile from the center of town with its attractions and the ocean. I also walked from the house to a hike in Camden Hills State Park. The micro-park next door to the house was excellent for all-ages swimming. We brought our dog and the house is well designed for a dog, with suitable flooring. The deck was excellent for her as well as for us, and there were no signs of pesticides on the property. We were able to take her for walks in the neighborhood with no problems with traffic. There are some dog-friendly restaurants in the Camden Area, and Beech Hill is an excellent dog-friendly easy hike (nature preserves do not allow pets). FYI: the house is right on a main road, so a little noisier than some locations. Also, the stairs to the lower level (with the second bedroom with its bed and two bunk beds plus laundry room) are quite steep and might not be easy for everyone. Plus, the ceiling of the downstairs bathroom is only just over 6 feet. Upstairs, no issues. Access from the street, with parking for one car, is to the upstairs (Master Bedroom/kitchen) level. There is ample parking at the lower level off the little road to Shirttail Park. Depending on how wet the ground is, caution would be advisable walking to the property's fine dock, but we had no problems. Overall, we really enjoyed the house and the stay.

Outstanding!!
This is our third visit to Camden, Maine and The Round House. We love the area and your home soooooooooo much. The house is so very comfortable! I love how you always include our fury family member by providing a water bowl on the back deck. We swam a lot at the park and remembered our fishing poles (this time) and caught a large bass from the dock.!! We really enjoyed our quiet evenings cooking out on the back deck and relaxing under the most fabulous array of stars I have ever seen. We were lucky to have booked for the start of Windjammer weekend! The ships, food and fireworks were so much fun. Thank you very much for opening your home to us again. See you next year!!

Misleading
We really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately there’s more wrong with it than right. The good- we love the meginticook river and Camden so we were excited to find this place since the house we rented for many years is no longer rented. The decor is very cute. The manager is very sweet and friendly. The not so good- the dock is extremely far from the house down a steep hill. To difficult to navigate for the grandparents to navigate, so they couldn’t enjoy being “on” the water. The decking along pathway needs updating. Extremely slippery and 2 of us fell. My husband tore up his knee which we later went to the hospital for since it would heal. The house is right next to the street making the master bedroom quite noisy instead of set back closer to the water. The downstairs where lodging is for 4 of the 6 occupants is unlivably hot and humid. Air conditioning is listed in the description but there’s is only a window unit in the living room which barely cools it down. Nothing in bedrooms. From our many years of visits to Maine in the summer, we know it can get really hot and humid so A/C is a must. The furniture could use upgraded. The padding is gone from the couches and most mattresses, bedding, towels, and carpeting are mildewed. The steps leading downstairs are very steep and the bathroom ceiling super low. If you are over 5 foot 6” you will hit your head on stairs and in lower bathroom. It’s very cramped, but we had no idea since photos were not provided in listing. Other reviewers have said they put the kids downstairs, but our 8 and 11 year old were skiddish about going down alone because of many bug sightings. We noticed kayaks in the garage which guests are not allowed to use, but it would be difficult to get them all the way down to the water anyway with the current partial decking, partial not well maintained wooded path and stairs, even if you rent them. We ended up using the public park next door for water entry after the kids got freaked out by getting leaches from the dock ladder. Shirttail point can get rather busy (and noisy at night) but we were glad we could drive our car down to get closer to the water. We would have used the deck off the living area more if there had been any shade. Even one umbrella would be helpful. I’d only consider staying here again if it were 2 nights or less or if we camped in the backyard in tents but had use of the bathroom and kitchen. We really wished we had loved this house.

Great place, really enjoyed our stay!
Relaxed on the back deck most days, and listened to the Loons and frogs under a blanket of bright stars in the evening. Visited Camden Village and really enjoyed the quaint and unique shops. Walked to the harbor and watched the beautiful sail boats. Loved the local seafood!!! The house was clean and had everything we needed!!!

COMPLETELY ENJOYED OUR STAY
Very clean and nicely decorated with all of the comforts of home. We had no issues during our stay or in contact with the owner regarding a few questions prior to our visit. The location is perfect, beautiful view and access to the river. The little market just down the road was very convenient for food items and lunches. Camden is beautiful. Quick and easy access to town and the local state park. Plenty of shops and restaurants. My only word of caution would be for anybody with mobility issues or those with small children. Steps are steep inside and outside of the home.

Perfect place to relax or to use as a base camp - the choice is yours!
A very clean and well-kept property. Perfect for our family - the kids loved having their own quarters and private bathroom downstairs. We enjoyed the private dock and watching the loons, fish and turtles swim by. We were less than 10 minutes from great hiking and shopping and only 15 minutes from Lincolnville Beach (ocean swimming). Property is right next to a local beach/park, so lots of opportunity for swimming, but also a lot of traffic in and out during the day. We had a couple of minor questions for the owner on our first day and she responded right away. We had perfect weather the whole week, but there are plenty of books, games and DVDs on site in case of rainy days. We found it a bonus to have linens and towels provided - saved us room when packing! This place is a treasure!

Excellent stay in Camden
Enjoyed our stay for the 4th of July week 2016. Comfortable. Everything is in good working order. Unique and clean. A little warm in the lower level sleeping quarters and unable to open windows below, which would have helped. Otherwise great. Enjoyed the floating dock in the mornings for coffee. Nice yard and enjoyed the running on the country roads. Be careful as a narrow shoulder until you get closer to town, but as an avid runner, I felt safer there than near my own suburban home. Thanks for the memories!

Cozy and relaxing vacation at the Round House
Loved staying at the Round House in beautiful Camden! The house comfortably fit 4 adults (2 grandparents and 2 parents) and 2 young children (ages 6 & 8). The location is perfect - far enough away from downtown to feel rural but close enough to be convenient to the amenities. We absolutely loved the views from the deck to the private dock. The views of the lake and the mountains were incredible and so relaxing. The haunting call of the loons (2 adult loons and 2 fledglings) greeted us each morning as we enjoyed our coffee on the dock. Although downtown Camden is a mile from the house, I do not suggest walking to it. There are no side walks for a good portion of the walk and the road is very narrow with many vehicles speeding by. A trip up to Bar Harbor is about an hour and 45 minutes away but the little towns that you will pass through are well worth stopping in. We found the Cellardoor winery in Lincolnville to be exceptional - so much so that we went there twice and the drive around Megunticook lake is exquisite! There was a misunderstanding regarding the kayaks but dealing with Karin and Steve was easy and very much a pleasure. We recommend this house for a family getaway.

Loved this House!
We stayed at this house (2 couples) for 2 nights in May. It is perfectly decorated and comfortable. We enjoyed the large deck and spent a lot of time on it. The yard is very big and goes down to the river, with a small private dock. The owner was extremely easy to work with and very helpful. She even came by when we couldn't get the TV to work (something we were doing wrong). It has a well stocked kitchen. She has brochures and info about the town and surrounding area. It was extremely clean and had a small gas stove which kept us warm enough. The stairs to the basement and 2nd bedroom are very steep, so make sure you are OK with that. There is a second full bath down there. We drove to town. It is a bit far to walk. This is the perfect house to stay in to explore the whole area.

Wonderful House, Great Town
My husband and I stayed for 5 days at this charming and very clean round house. The house was exactly as described and pictured. The house had everything we needed for a great vacation. Every morning we had coffee on the deck over looking the lake, and every night we finish the day on the private dock with a nice glass of wine. Several days we kayaked around the lake and enjoyed the changing fall leaves. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook many of our meals, the bed was comfortable and the great room was very warm and cozy with a nice gas "wood" stove. Camden and Rockland are wonderful little towns full of fun shops, bars and restaurants. My favorite shop was Seagull Cottage in Rockland. We went to see many of the Lighthouses in the area and drove the Baxter State Park to see the Fall colors. I highly recommend for a relaxing vacation stay at the Round House in Camden, Maine.

Perfect Family Vacation Destination!
Hi there! I just got done booking my week at the Round House for the second year in a row and I'll be counting down the days until June!! Last year we had the best time fishing, swimming and kayaking at the lake that is basically in the back yard of this rental! What a beautiful location with the mountains and lake!! The house is SO comfortable and clean! My husband and I loved that the kids had their own floor with their own bathroom! We had lots of alone time after the kids went to bed and fell in love with the beautiful, sweet Maine night air! The deck is so big and we spent most nights outside drinking wine and listening to the loons on the lake. We are very lucky to have secured the dates we wanted in june because I could never go back to hotels after experiencing the Round house! Ps. I never really liked rental houses because some of the ones I've stayed in have been poorly decorated and a bit dirty! The Round house is spotless and decorated like Martha Stewart would decorate!! Who does your decorating anyway? Sincerely, Suzanne! See you in June!
