About this property
Charming Log Cabin in a Mountain Lake Community
Applemoon is a dog-friendly 1960s log cabin nestled on an acre of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Two bedrooms with Smart TVs, a porch with hanging daybed and bistro table, and a cozy game loft will give you plenty of space to relax. Outside, enjoy dinner on the huge deck or build a fire and don't forget to look up at the night sky! Applemoon strikes the perfect balance between rustic charm and comfort while maintaining your immersion in the peaceful mountain woodlands of Harpers Ferry.
The Lake & Mountain You will be 1/2 mile from Lake Shannondale where you can purchase a very affordable day pass to enjoy the beauty of the lake and the relaxed beach area. The Mountain Lake Club also offers boat rentals and lunch & dinner. Shannondale also offers several hiking trails and direct access to the Appalachian Trail less than a mile from the cabin. Please keep in mind that this is a unique mountain community where each home is different and there is no HOA. Some neighbors are full-time residents and there are also other short-term rentals.
The Area Downtown Harpers Ferry is located about 10 miles down the mountain and offers historical sightseeing and amazing natural beauty, being at the intersection of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. There are adorable shops to visit, like The Vintage Lady and Two Crows Antiques, as well as some great dining options right on the water. For more adventurous guests, Harpers Ferry also offers whitewater rafting and outdoor adventure activities like treetop obstacle courses, zip-lining, and rafting on the two major rivers.
Charles Town is less than a 15-minute drive from the cabin and is a larger Main Street community with many shopping and dining options, and is home to Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races.
The climate and terrain of the Eastern Panhandle have made it a hub for vineyards and wineries. A beautiful 20-mile drive away will lead you to nearly a dozen notable vineyards. A few local favorites are included in our area guide.

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at the Apple Moon Cabin. The hosts have gone to great lengths for a cozy, convenient and comfortable vacation home. It was just wonderful!
We really enjoyed our time at Applemoon. Private, peaceful views from the sun porch and patio. Community is very friendly, good for both kids and dogs. The lake and clubhouse were great for some afternoon fun!
The cabin was cozy and was stocked with the little touches that added to the comfort of our stay. Location was great - set between Hollywood Casino, Purcellville and Harpers Ferry. Thank you for having us.
The property was amazing we wanted to stay longer, the narrow roads were the only thing I didn't like but the inside was the cutest! so nice and clean and so cozy.
Exactly as advertised. Inviting, clean and very comfortable. Easy to see that the owners take pride in their cabin, understanding that the little details matter. Will definitely be back!
One of the cleanest and most well-stocked rentals I've stayed in. My only complaint was that the inside could have used a little more lighting, especially since it was overcast with little sunlight coming in at one point. I do understand it was a cabin though!

About the host
Hosted by Ashley & Jason Henley
Hello! We are your hosts, Ashley and Jason. We are so excited to be able to share our happy little red cabin with the world. We live just over the Maryland border near Frederick, MD in an 1800s Victorian farmhouse we're constantly finding ways to renovate. We love old houses and have been passionate about creating joyful and warm spaces ever since we had our first college apartment together in 2005. We now have 2 young kiddos who are our constant source of amusement, 2 dogs, 1 hamster, and about 75 more board games than we will ever play.
Outside of restoring and renovating, we love to go camping, watch horror movies, play Dungeons & Dragons (Jason), and start new craft projects (Ashley).
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this 1960s log cabin the moment we saw it. You can sense the love that was put into this home in the generations of families that came before us, going back to the 1960s when the cabin was built in Shannondale. Shannondale was once a unique resort area catering to families in D.C. and Baltimore; while the community is now home to a mix of vacation rentals and full-timers, it maintains its rustic charm. It took us almost a year of gentle rehab to preserve as much of the character of the home and the surrounding natural landscape as possible, but we are now ready to share our peaceful little happy place with guests.
What makes this property unique
Our favorite Applemoon activities: -Falling asleep on the swinging daybed on the enclosed porch mid-afternoon with the fan blowing -Grilling and then eating dinner on the huge deck with hanging bistro lights overhead -Building a big fire in the fire pit and gazing up at the amazingly bright night sky -Playing a round of the original Mario Bros. on the retro Nintendo console up in the loft -Reading in the big green chair in the living room, glancing up every once in a while to see if a deer is looking back at you through the big window in the kitchen -Waking up (hopefully nice and late!) to the sounds of all the mountain birds singing in the trees
