About this property

Charming vintage cottage with a 50s vibe just steps away from Cedar Lake!

Adorable rustic cottage hand-built in 1945—tiny but comfortable (525sf). This little gem is part of a group of 10 tiny cottages that were built in the early 50s and 60s by several families. Some are still owned by descendants of the original families. At different points there are a few families visiting their homes, but other times you have the whole place to yourself!

We are very attentive and caring owners and are pleased to share our cozy little getaway!

This little building is just right for a family, or for adults who don't mind that their privacy is limited. There are 2 small bedrooms that have curtains for doors and an opening at the top of the wall between the bedrooms. So, you can't see each other, but you can hear each other! The master bedroom has a double mattress on a metal frame. The second bedroom has a bunk bed with a twin mattress on the top and a double mattress on the bottom. There is one small bathroom with a stand-up shower.

The gray and black water goes into a holding tank so that nothing goes into the lake. It is a small holding tank, so please be mindful of that. (e.g. Shower yes, spa-time, no!) Our guests staying aware of this will help us in keeping costs down.

The location is around 30 minutes from just about everything: Burlington and Middlebury (including their colleges), the ferry to New York, shopping, hiking, leaf peeping, etc. When you come back from your travels, enjoy the view of Camel's Hump from the screened porch, or from the lake in one of the provided kayaks or paddleboat. Parking is free with 3 spots available.

There is a road behind the cottages that provides public access to the boat ramp for the lake, which is not terribly busy. Sometimes people ride their horses on the access road. On the whole, it's fairly quiet, but it is a spot for the locals to come and do some boating and fishing!

We (Len and Roxanne) have lived in Vermont for 28 years, though we’re originally from the Carolinas and Florida. The cottage was built in 1945; we acquired it in 2022 as the third owners since its construction, and are working to keep its rustic charm while making it as comfortable as possible.

Why they chose this property

The property is close to many amenities yet feels like you're far away from it all. It's cute and whimsical with a lot of retro charm. Of course, the best part is that the lake is right there in front of you!

What makes this property unique

The lake is clearly the greatest attraction, but its location is fairly central to a lot of wonderful Vermonty places.

The cottage itself is a fun piece of Vermont from the mid-century. It's fully furnished with every necessity and more while you're enjoying the quaintness of the location and our beautiful state!
