The Highland Hideaway, perfect for family getaways
The Highland Hideaway is a perfect place for the whole family to relax and enjoy. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a well-equipped kitchen. After a day of hiking, spend some time in the massage chair while the kids enjoy the foos ball table and game console. Hang out on the comfy sectional or around the fire pit. A seasonal creek is located just behind the house (usually flowing from November-April, dependant on weather). Highland cows live in the pastures surrounding the home (although they are very friendly, please keep in mind that they are big animals with hooves, teeth, and horns. So we ask that you don't enter their fence for any reason!)
The Hideaway is located 3 miles from Carver Landing. You'll be within easy access to SO MANY gorgeous places, including the national park. Please note that there is a mile long gravel driveway, with a steep hill. I've had no trouble in a 2wd SUV, but i don't recommend motorcycles!!
****I will send you a map pin before you arrive, as map apps don't recognize the physical address****

I had a wonderful stay here with my friends for a girl's weekend. The beds were comfy and cozy. We had everything we needed! Loved the fire pit by the bluff and there was plenty of firewood. The massage chair was a bonus we all enjoyed, also! Spacious and clean house, lots to do, overall a great rental! The cows and horses were fun to visit with, too :)
The property was in excellent condition with all of the amenities you need. We enjoyed our stay tremendously. The hosts were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this property for anyone who wants a quiet getaway.
My family and I absolutely loved our stay here! The house provided everything we needed for a relaxing break away from the city. Besides the adorable highland cows, our favorite part was the large fire pit. The house was large enough for our family of five spread out comfortably, and the proximity to hiking trails was spot on. Thank you for sharing your home with us!
The house was clean and very nice. We enjoyed our time there.
Our only problem was the VRBO website showed the property right in the city of Jasper but it was 10 miles east which was not where we were wanting to be.
We couldn't have asked for a better spot. Our weekend rock climbing in the area was a little cold and wet, but this home is so well situated for many public lands and activities. The kids loved the arcade and the parents loved the beautiful property. The house was more than we expected!
The property is beautiful and is located near a lot of attractions. My kids enjoyed feeding the cows more than other stuff. Ashley makes herself availabile via messages. I needed somw help and messaged her on VRBO. She responded within a few minutes. Btw, this was on Christmas eve, when it ia difficult to even get groceries. Thank you, Ashley!
Not only is Ashley an amazing host who communicates quite effectively with her guests, but her home is wonderfully inviting and the property itself is just dreamy.
My sister and I enjoyed the landscape all around us while we were there, and we loved the beautiful Highland Cattle as they grazed on grasses and straw close by so we could see them upclose and personal.
Her home is absolutely immaculate, with luxurious bath linens and the beds are very nice with beautiful bedding that is very cozy and comfy. I quickly fell off to dreamland after exploring Jasper and a few neighboring communities each day. Also, the back porch is perfect for lounging and reading a good book.
This getaway is for those who are wanting to escape all the hustles and bustles of life. It was a perfect weekend indeed.
The location of the property is absolutely beautiful! Perfectly situated in the heart of the Buffalo River and popular hiking trails. The were several spots on the Buffalo within 10 minutes of the property. Jasper is within 15 minutes and convenient for grabbing grocery essentials.
The house itself was completely immaculate! I have never been inside auch a clean home. All the essentials were available plus some very special touches! Plenty of blankets to cozy up with and even some snacks already available. The firepit was next to a bluff and creek that was absolutely breathtaking!
Communication with the property owner couldnt have been better and she worked hard to make sure ourbstay was memorable. Highly recommend this property to absolutely anyone! Our family of 5 loved it!
The property was a great home base for our first visit to the Buffalo River area.
- It was centrally located for our hiking adventures.
- The living room had a large and cozy sectional and nice TV which we enjoyed while recouping and resting up for our next adventure.
- The massage chair was a great bonus for working the kinks out of sore muscles.
- The property is quiet and peaceful, and the burbling creek takes it to another level.
- Glad we had 4x4. A car could definitely make it in and out but it would be rough.
Note if coming in from Jasper (west), there is a gas station and convenience store a half mile east of the property turn off.
Would totally stay here again!

The house and property are perfect for a family to relax and get off the beaten path. Clean, plenty of space, and comfortable. Glad we brought the SUV for the gravel road to the house (and much of the roads/trails around the area). No cell signal but great WIFI if you need connected. My kids ages 8-14 loved the backyard and creek as well as the massage chair and game room. They also were all amazed at the antique looking phone on the wall LOL! The property is remote as is most of the area so it’s 30 minutes or more to just about anywhere and any trail you want to hike. So bring your food to stock the kitchen. We grilled out and ate at home mostly but did try out the Ozark Cafe in Jasper. We would stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Ashley Dickson
I'm Ashley! I'm married to my favorite person in the world, and we have 4 kids. We love to travel around the world as a family, but the best part is coming back home to the Natural State. We enjoy hiking, and I'm happy to give you some trail recommendations. I want you to love the Ozarks as much as we do--let me know how I can make your trip the best ever!
Why they chose this property
We adore everything about the Ozarks, and make our home here. From beautiful mountain vistas to rolling green valleys....the Ozarks has it all! (Plus, we have fuzzy cows)
What makes this property unique
The Hideaway is a family home--make yourself comfortable! Our family spends as much time here as possible; snuggled up on the sectional or roasting marshmallows by the firepit. I find the layout of the home perfect for family gatherings. Everyone has plenty of space but it still feels cozy. Please wander around the property--and enjoy the cows, but do keep out of their fence.
