About this property

FRIEDA LAWERENCE

A friend of the original homesteader (we found her letters to the publishers of DH's books in the attic), it was here she drank coffee, picked up her mail, and bought groceries. In the quietude, one might still hear some of the passionate exchanges between her and DH, especially in the evenings by one of the campfires, or on a simple walk in the woods to the old spring at nearby Timber Canyon.

Frieda’s Cabin is a furnished one room 325 sq ft efficiency/duplex that originally served as sheepherder’s lodging at the turn of the last century. Now it has a well equipped kitchen, full bathroom with a bath/shower, and a queen size bed.

Nightly rates depend on season: $68-$99/night, plus tax and a cleaning fee. Please note that this cabin is part of a duplex.

Not what expected
When we opened the door a musty smell permeated the cabin. It was very unpleasant. My husband had a hard time breathing due to the odor. Shower curtain smelled like sour mildew and the place was dingy. I was fine with the rustic setting but, more attention was needed to the linens and overall cleanliness. Sleeping / main room had one above light fixture that had one bulb out and bugs in the glass shade. Outlet by kitchen table needs to be replaced because electrical cords won’t stay in it. Nice thing about it was it was quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the porch.

Cozy New Years Stay
This property was adorable and perfect for us having a cozy little New Years weekend. Very easy to get to Taos Ski Valley and downtown Taos. Loved the property and I bet it is gorgeous in the summer when the trees and landscape are full. We loved having the wood burning oven. Only two things I would change-one would be to add hinges onto the screen door. If you don't remember to hold it (as we did not almost every single time) it slams shut with a loud bang. Second- there was no outlet in the bathroom, not a deal breaker for us but made drying our hair a little interesting.
