Book at your own risk
When you book a stay at a short-term rental, you hope for a turnkey experience where you don’t need to contact the host very much. Instead, our stay was fraught with issues.
In the end I feel like I was met with excuses and made to be the problem, which only made for a more frustrating experience.
The biggest problem I have is that this property was listed as having a hot tub (a pretty major amenity) but when we arrived it did not have one (but the listing still showed it as having one). When I asked about this, I was told sorry but it was an error on the listing on the part of VRBO— why then did nobody mention this to us in the time between when I booked and when we showed up? When I brought this up I was offered a night’s stay in refund but then short-changed on the amount.
Here are some other issues we encountered: the hot water was turned down so low we thought it was broken as lukewarm showers were all we could get, there were no mugs with the dishware (some were brought to the house for us when we asked, but we shouldn’t have had to ask), the private parking at the back (listed as a feature of the house, due to the sketchy neighborhood) was unexpectedly locked off with a padlock we didn’t have keys to, when the property manager came by to check the water he left the door unlocked when he left, probably because the whole door lock system was malfunctioning.
Other guests should be prepared to encounter issues and be made to sound like a problem for having them.
