Lovely stay in the Dominican Republic

Great property and friendly people. Everything was as advertised. A few minutes from a family friendly beach. The people working there (house keeping, private chefs, office manager) were all so welcoming. Would stay here again.

Lovely but remote

Pretty and clean apartment. Comfortable but low to floor bed, room darkening shades in bedroom. Small but nice bathrooms. Hair dryer and clean towels provided. Beach towels provided. Washer but no dryer. Recommend renting a golf cart because very far from everything. Otherwise, you must call for a taxi. Worth upgrading to central air conditioning. They do provide bellhop and daily maid service. The kitchen is well-equipped. Very nice and convenient to use the chef service. Little to zero shade by the pool. No drink or food services on site other than in-unit chef services. Lots of concrete stairs and a steep hill. This property is not mobility-friendly.

Overall nice experience

Nice location, clean property. Bathrooms are very small and have a poor design. Listing needs to be clarified: Chef breakfast is included, but they charge you cash for the groceries and only give you 2 options (Dominican or American breakfast)— great for a couple days, but if you are staying longer like we did, then more options would be helpful.

Just spectacular, both in terms of location & overall accommodations. While we did not take advantage of all the services that were offered, we found Lourdes place to be spot on as described and staff very attentive to our requests. This place will NOT disappoint.

Island Honeymoon

My wife and I were here for our honeymoon after a destination wedding in Colorado in August. This was our second time visiting Las Terrenas and it won’t be our last. The penthouse was beautiful! We loved the design and attention to detail! The view is amazing and the ocean breezes were fantastic with the sliding glass windows all opened up. Some guests in other units had some crazy loud music outside for a few nights but as long as you like island music it was ok and couldn’t really hear from the bedroom. The chef was great for dinner our first night and the breakfasts were delicious each morning. I’m sure additional evening meals would’ve been just as delicious but we enjoy exploring the local cuisine and meeting the people. Some of our favorites are Ilnido, Portos, and the new Italian place down near center of town that Maria recommended. The beach right down from the condo is amazing and as good or better than any of the other beaches we visited with our quad while we were there. Maria and the rest of the staff took wonderful care of us while we were there. Can’t wait to come back!

Location location location

We had a little bit of trouble finding the property as we were driving. Google map apartamento Bonita village is absolutely key info to know…the private chef and his staff is absolutely luxurious necessity! So good! We found the food outside of the chef experience not very good anywhere else. The condo is in a perfect location on what we found to be one of the best beaches after exploring the peninsula quite a bit. The pool and grounds are very well kept. The hot tub got very hot which was awesome. Had some issues with showers but they did get fixed. Overall I believe it was one of the best VRBO places I’ve stayed in the world. The beaches are just stunning and the people friendly. The condo was as close to perfection as one can get and a perfect place to relax after adventuring out.

A slice of Heaven for the Holidays!

Heaven! The photos are accurate, what is hard to feel is just how open, bright and spacious this unit is. This was our second winter break stay in this fabulous penthouse, to our delight, it was just as wonderful as our first year there (reviewed Dec 2018. Learning from last year’s mistake of relying on obtaining our reserved rental car, we asked Betania to order a taxi to pick us up at the airport. Once in Las Terrenas, we couldn’t wait to get into the apartment, open all those fabulous ceiling to floor windows and let the warm breezes waft in while we enjoyed the incredible view. Knowing how delicious the dinners and breakfasts Chef Danny and Lenny prepared, we booked them for the entire 9 days and even got to look forward to having our favorite 1 or 2 dishes a second time. Danny will get any additional food or drink items you request, which, if you are not shopping, is a great time saver. Having breakfast with a variety of fresh cut fruit prepared every morning was such a treat, no doing dishes either! We also decided to eliminate the stress of the previous year, getting cash from the local ATMs and brought enough US$ and Dominican pesos for the entire vacation. With three laptops, the WIFI worked fine, though we did have to reboot it once in a while. The AC in the bedrooms is key for night sleeping, during the day we needed nothing. We enjoyed renting the units ATV’s (thank you Betania) to visit the different beaches, do quick food shopping in town or just discover the local neighborhood area. We enjoyed the upstairs hot tub late in the afternoon before dinner, the quiet peace of the waves in the distance as the sun set, leaving such beautiful colors in the sky. We did reserve our chaises with Leo at Sol y Mar (great pina coladas) the days we stayed on Las Ballenas beach. It was fun making friends with the three adorable dogs that live in the area. The water was an even 84 degrees every day. For New Year’s our 18 and 24-year-old went off to town to meet friends they made on the beach. My hubby and I picked one of the beach bars ordered a crisp mojito and sat on the beach as bonfire started and local fireworks bloomed just over our heads, just as beautiful as any NYC firework display! Having visited Los Haitises, horseback rode to the El Limon waterfalls (don’t walk!), and ATV’d the back areas of Las Terrenas (all with Henry at Peninsula Tours), this year we enjoyed the Catamaran/snorkeling/Cayo Levantado trip with Flora Tours. Condo in las Terrenas

We returned to this condo after a year hiatus. The property is extremely well cared for and furnishings up to date. It’s a 5 minute walk to the quiet end of the beach which is tranquil enough to swim in most of the time and another 10 to the beach bar section. Betania the local concierge was both attentive and responsive to our questions and needs. Danny, the private chef, is highly skilled and his menu items feature local fresh ingredients. Combined with the stunning beach view, this was a wonderful 10 days in the DR.

Beautiful location and property

The penthouse and location were absolutely amazing. Pros: The Chef service: Danny and Leny were outstanding! He was more of an onsite manager for us as he contacted the staff when they forgot to replenish toilet paper, towels, trash bags, and checkout list. The food was delicious and I would certainly recommend anyone staying here get this service. The villa is spacious and very comfortable. The view from the top floor is amazing!! We got massages up there and it was perfect! Check out was easy; we just paid for "extras" and left. No one from property mgt was there during check out. Tony was great at fixing what needed to be done and Franco also great with bags and hot tub maintenance. The place is very secure and have a great pool on site. The closeness to the beach was also a plus. Cons: We were surprised by the extra $20/day for air-conditioning in the living area but we needed it during the time as it was very hot and humid . I missed it online and it was not mentioned during check in. We had noisy neighbors and had to contact the concierge twice which proved to be difficult at times since the wi-fi was not consistent and we communicated through WhatsApp. Cleaning crew forgot to replenish some essentials even though we were the only customers at times but did a great job keeping the place spotless. Overall its a great villa in a great location. I would recommend renting a car; the drive is on a good road but get pesos since there are tolls. If you don't have a car, a taxi ride to the supermarket will cost you $20USD. Las Terrenas is a beautiful town and I can't wait to return.

June in Paradise

The property was just as advertised. Very clean and nice accommodations. It is located in a gated community with security checking all people coming in. Very safe. We were met by a bell person to show us where to park and he took all our bags up to the pentohouse. Oscar met us and welcomed us and answered any questions we had. The cooks Danny and Lenny were great. We asked for a traditional Dominican meal when we arrived and they delivered! Danny cooked breakfast each morning and it was delicious. The rooms were beautiful, clean and comfortable. The views were awesome. From the kitchen table you can just see the beach and ocean in clear view. The windows open up all around the living area and kitchen which was awesome. The top deck had spectacular views with hot tub and bbq and patio furniture. I would give overall 5 stars but the hot tub wouldn’t heat up for 2 days of our stay. So that was kind of sad as we’d hoped to use it more in the evenings to relax. Overall our experience was great, the communication was done well and we would return. Btw, this area end of May /early June was not crowded at all. We maybe saw 20 other people on the beach. We rented scooters for 2 days and cruises around. Many great restaurants right on the paved road (Diego’s was great for authentic wood fired pizza and calzones).

Incredible. Cannot wait to return!

Las Terrenas is an old fishing village that retains its local culture, charm with many great dining and outdoor activities. The description for this clean, contemporary, quiet 2 bedroom PH villa with deck/Jacuzzi was more stunning than we expected. Emma, who communicated with us promptly, answered every question, gave us suggestions on local travel and information in and around Las Terrenas. Stephany, the villa’s cheerful and thoughtful concierge/hostess made us feel well taken care of from the beginning. We reserved a rental car, in SDQ, once there we discovered that there were NONE to be had. We were able to secure a taxi but in hindsight, I should have asked Stephany to get a car to pick us up instead, which would have been less stressful. The 2 hour taxi ride is 190 US plus a 10% tip that is always appreciated. Banks in DR allow a daily withdrawal of $200 US, only the Scotia bank at Super Pola or Super Linda, allow you to draw out more cash. Having now been here, I suggest bringing the full amount of US dollars to cover your trip. The unit has a very secure safe, Bonita Village is fully gated with guards. It is easy to exchange US dollars in town but everyone accepts US cash. Stephany made sure we had everything we needed once we were checked in, staying in touch with Whatsapp. The unit has a water cooler/heater, all that's needed are bottles of water for your day needs and ice. The kitchen is fully stocked if you want to cook. Chef Danny and Lenny cooked our first dinner of fresh red snapper in a coconut sauce. After that, we asked them to cook for us every night. For $35 + ingredients, the portions are a nice size, we often had leftovers for our lunch the next day. We loved the squid calamari, grilled lobster, seafood kebab and the chicken with mushrooms. Chef Lenny made a delicious chocolate fondant anytime and our 16 year old asked for it every night. The bedrooms have AC, ceiling fans and the beds are comfy. Soaps, conditioners, shampoos in the bathrooms are replaced daily. Nothing I say can describe the view! Opening all the windows and doors, brings in the most incredible breezes. I still miss the incredible light and open feeling of the villa. The upstairs deck is a gift, eating breakfast in the am and at the end of the day, relaxing on the lounges or sitting in the delicious hot tub. We voted this best vacation, it was so very hard to leave such a paradise. Thank you Emma, Stephany, Chef Danny and Lenny and staff! See you again soon,

We are dreaming of returning here again soon!

After a vacation last winter in the lovely, freezing Montreal, we, our two sons, 16 and 23 opted for something warmer, which led us to look at the Dominican Republic, specifically the Samana Peninsula, for this years winter get away. A little bit of goggling led me to find Las Terrenas, an old fishing village -- with beautiful beaches, that retains its local culture and charm with so many delicious dining choices and adventurous outdoor activities. On HomeAway, the photos and description for this clean, contemporary, well appointed, quiet 2 bedroom PH villa with private deck/Jacuzzi are exactly what you get and gives you so much more. Once we reserved with Emma, who communicated with us promptly, she answered every question we had, gave us suggestions on travel, local information in and around Las Terrenas, plus the many options that come with the rental, Emma was so supportive and thoughtful, she made us feel so well taken care of right up to the very day of our trip. Stephany, is the villa’s cheerful and generously kind concierge/hostess - she was very forthcoming and helpful in getting any and all of our vacation needs set up. The travel from NYC is relatively easy with a short, nonstop flight from JFK to SDQ plus a 2-hour ride up past rice farms, small villages and over the mountains to the villa. TIP: While we had reserved a rental car, once we arrived at SDQ, we discovered that there were NONE to be had anywhere. Luckily, we were able to secure a taxi at the airport to bring us to Ribera Mar. In hindsight, I should have asked Stephany to get a car to pick us up instead, which would have been less stressful. The cost for the taxi ride is 190 US (9,500 pesos - at 50 pesos to 1 US$) each way, plus a 10% tip (the general amount suggested) that is always appreciated. TIP: the banks in DR only allow a daily withdrawal of $200 US (10,000 pesos), only the Scotia bank (one is at the markets: Super Pola, other at Super Linda) allows you to draw out more funds. We had $1500 USD with us, which was not enough since credit cards are only accepted at some restaurants. Having now been here, I would totally suggest bringing the full amount of US dollars to cover your trip. The unit has a very secure safe, the Bonita Village is fully gated with guards and completely safe. FYI it is easy to exchange US dollars in town, but honestly, everyone accepts US cash. We were happy to discover that while called a ‘resort town’, Las Terrenas itself is low key, quiet,

Fantastic place to stay!

We traveled from Seattle, WA to this beautiful place. The journey was long, but well worth it. From the start, communications with Emma were very clear and well executed. She helped book your taxi service from the airport to the Penthouse. Trying to get it scheduled on my own was not so easy. I'm so happy she could help us with the logistics to get here, to and from the airport in Santo Domingo! It is a 2.5 hour car drive from the airport. Emma was available to answer our questions along the way from booking to preparing for our arrival. Upon arrival, Stephany took over and provided continuous service to help make our stay as pleasant as possible. She greeted us upon our arrival and was available daily for questions, suggestions, booking excursions or scheduling Danny, the wonderful Chef that was available to us for the duration of our visit. To have such great service available to you for a very reasonable cost was worth every penny. Danny would procure the groceries for you and come and cook what you requested. You only needed to pay for the cost of the groceries and the added cost for Danny to cook your meal, anything outside of cooking breakfast was extra. The cost to hire Danny was an additional $35usd. He and Lenny were FANTASTIC! The best way to get around is either by bicylce (which they have available) or to rent a scooter or ATV. Understand the roads before you decide to drive yourself. Otherwise, the next best means of transportation are the Motorbike Taxi's, guys on motorcycles. From the Condo to the town, the cost is $2usd. Dom. Pesos are best to use, as some of the locals don't know the exchange rate and think you are not paying them enough. For the beach seating, you can either pay for a chair, or if it's connected to a beach hut bar, just ordering drinks provides you chairs for free. The locals are friendly and helpful. Restaurants in town were wonderful. Food and atmosphere is great. I highly recommend anyone considering vacationing here to book this location and this Penthouse. It was a wonderful trip, great memories made and we look forward to our visit again!!

Simply amazing...

Las Terrenas itself is a very unique place- a fishing village situated on the Atlantic where many tourists and citizens alike get around on ATV's, mopeds, and other 4 wheelers. Numerous small restaurants along the beach will serve you drinks and snacks but also just a short drive into town for a true Dominican, Italian, French dinner and many other cuisines. I can see this destination getting more and more popular every year. This property however is something else... a great view of the beach with large retractable windows to allow a cross breeze during the day. A fully stocked kitchen if you're one who likes to prepare your meals on vacation, otherwise plenty of space for your chef for hire to make his delicious meals (Chef Danny specifically who cooked us every breakfast and several dinners- every one of those meals fantastic). When you want to explore, Stephanie, your concierge, will arrange a tour (we used Flora tours for everything, another great company) or two or even recommend restaurants or beaches and arrange the taxi ride for you. Really felt we were treated like VIP's by those two as well as the rest of the staff. The air conditioned bedrooms here are well appointed with roomy showers and very comfortable beds and the jacuzzi on the top floor worked perfect for us after a long day and Wi Fi was more than adequate for streaming. All in all a great location, property and most of all customer service. Will stay here again when we get the chance!

Wonderful

We had a wonderful stay at Ribera Mar. The unit is as beautiful as the pictures, and everyone was very welcoming. Emma was great with answers to all of our pre-arrival questions. Danny cooked for us twice, and he makes enough food for at least two meals. He's also a super nice guy. Stephanie was terrific, as she really tries to make your vacation trouble-free and memorable. The location is really nice, with an easy walk to the nearest beach and a very convenient pool option. The food and drink at the nearest food spot, Sol y Mar, far exceeded our expectations. For adventures further up the beach the two-person ATVs were a lot of fun . For slightly longer trips (town or Playa Bonita for surfing lessons!) Stephanie was able to have a taxi at our door within minutes of our request. Special thanks to our most frequent driver, Guirito, for his friendship and his willingness to talk all things baseball. None of us wanted to come home. Thanks to all.

Beautiful property, exactly as advertised!

beautiful, well-appointed condo. Playa Ballenas was about a two-minute walk and was pleasantly uncrowded with nice sand, warm water, and food and drink service from the small cafe across the road - ideal. Everything worked as expected - kitchen was well-equipped, A/C in th bedrooms worked great, bathrooms and bedrooms were very nice. Did a good amount of cooking (didn’t try the “House chef”) and had everything we needed. Stephanie, Tony and Franco were all very helpful and friendly.
Stayed 7 nights in Nov 2017

Pure paradise - a must for your bucket list!

Absolutely loved it! We spent 7 glorious days in this gorgeous property's luxury penthouse with every amenity you could possibly need at your fingertips. The penthouse is clean, well maintained and beautifully decorated with stunning views of the ocean. The view from the villa and the roof top with a private hot tub is one of the most beautiful that we have ever seen. And Stephany the coordinator was absolutely amazing! She is friendly, helpful, knows the area well and offers up great tips on places to eat (La Thalassa and Pizzeria Italiano de Diego were favourites) and things to do. Stephany truly made our holiday very memorable and unique. Gracias!

WE ARE GOING BACK!!!!!!

Let me start by saying thank you to all the people that make our stay unforgettable and always leaving us with the desire of going back. Emma, always try to accommodate me with the availability and keeping a constant communication. Stephanie, always available for whatever we need and making sure we spent a pleasant vacation. Franco, is very attentive and always available if you need him and never upset or angry, always smiling. Maribel and the maintenance crew always making sure that our place is spotless. We always have clean towels, never run out of drinking water, toilet paper or hand/dishwasher soap. Pool always clean and whenever it had tree leaves, Franco will bring the nest and clean it. They have ATV’s available for rent, which is very convenient if have to go out to the town and you don’t want to drive your rental vehicle as the streets are a little narrow in certain areas and that's where the ATV’s comes handy. We use the chef in our first trip to Ribera Mar and it was outstanding, but we decided to go to the supermercado Pola and buy groceries instead. You should to go to Las Palmeras Restaurante and ask for Rene (Owner), to make the story short this was our second time in Ribera Mar and we ate everyday in Las Palmeras, because we were treated like family and food is delicious. Tell Rene that Carlos send you and that you want to try the “CHUPITOS” and the “CHILLO AL COCO” you will not be disappointed. Don’t get me wrong the cost of the chef is not bad, because he/she will cook 3 meals for you for a reasonable price, except you have to buy the food he will cook for you. You should book a ZipLine adventure and you will not regret it. Security is paramount to me and my family, and Bonita Village is a very secure place. There are armed security guards all around the perimeter of the village from the main gate to the community pool. We felt very secure in the village. Keep in mind that if security guard doesn’t have your name or your visitors on his list, you are not getting inside the village. To conclude, I would like to see privacy glass and window screen in all the bathrooms, because we stayed on the Duplex and the Penthouse and there was none. Also, update some cooking equipment such as pans, coffee maker and utensils. Maybe a washer and dryer, instead of washer only. Add the TV that was on the Penthouse living room, like it was the first time. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR, JUST BOOK YOUR VACATION!!!!!!!!
