About this property

Summer Wind, Beachfront with incredible views! 5 miles from Galveston sea wall!


There is bed space for 10 people. 8 or 9 adults is comfortable. We do allow up to 11, with one on the couch or on the spare mattress that is under the bed. This beachfront home has one of the best views of any home on the West End, yet close to the fun of downtown Galveston. Easy walk to Galveston State Park. Our beach has a private feeling and is very quiet (no cars are allowed to drive on beach thus no worries about the kids/dogs). Once you cross the bridge from the mainland you will find a unique experience. We feel like we are entering a different world when we visit our beachfront island home! This is a pet friendly home with a pet fee of $75 per pet.

COVID-19: The house is ideal for social distancing. The beach is not crowded, there is plenty of outdoor deck space, and I recently upgraded the HVAC with a media filter and a UV air treatment system. Our cleaning company disinfects all touch surfaces (light switches, door knobs, counter tops, etc). If at any time our beach is closed down, the city prohibits short term rentals, or there is a state wide lock-down and you are prevented from using your reservation I will return all money paid. Please stay healthy!

MISC: This home is set back, plenty of beach in front and only small dunes between you and the beach. Please note, the map illustration can make it appear there are lots in front of Summer Wind. If you use a satellite view you will see this is not the case. This is a front row, ocean front home!

Second time at this property. Another wonderful experience. Beautiful weather and surf conditions. Six girls had a wonderful time. The house is well laid out for the crowd we had - very comfortable. Didn't lack for any amenities. Love the decks. It's just a great place to stay and we hope to do it again.

Beautiful beach house!
We loved everything about this house! It was so nice to be right on the beach especially with having our children who loved playing in the water and sand the entire stay. The house is fully stocked with appliances and dishes. We hope to be back soon!

Perfect location for relaxation!
This property was perfect for our two families to enjoy a relaxing spring break! The house is right on the beach making it easy for going back for lunch or restroom breaks. Everything was clean, there were tons of bath towels (bring your own beach towels) and we even got lucky with a couple of boogie boards! Just a short drive into Galveston for dinners. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We had such a fantastic stay. This house is absolutely beautiful and a great location to the beach. Seeing the waves from all angles of the house was amazing. John had such great communication with fast responses. We loved every minute of it.

The beach house and its location was beautiful. The beach was just steps away and there were lots of deck chairs to use for watching the waves. Communication regarding our reservation should have been better. When we arrived, we found out that the refrigerator wasn’t working (just the freezer but it needed masking tape for the door to stay closed) and the tv in the bedroom wasn’t working. I notified our host about them and he was already aware of the issue. I appreciate that he offered to send us another tv by the next day but that should have been already done if he already knew the issue. I wish he had told us in advance of our stay so we could have prepared for these inconveniences and focused on our vacation rather than problem solving like where to keep our perishable foods. We left early due to TS Alberto was coming and it was already causing the home to wobble (the hangers in the closet were swinging back and forth on their own). The host was made aware of the house wobbling and he conveyed that it would be addressed.

John's place is fantastic for hosting a group of 8! Everyone had their own beds and enough space. The outdoor decks are AMAZING and its right on the beach. Kitchen is fully loaded. Would stay again!

I bought the house in 2008, and 2 months later, Hurricane Ike destroyed the foundation and broke our hearts. I spent the next year working on the house. It had to be lifted up and set on the beach. Once a new foundation was built, the house was placed on top and then much of the house had to be rebuilt. Once the house was finished, I spent the next couple of years working for a house moving company doing similar work another storm damaged houses along the gulf coast. In 2011 I moved to the east coast where I now work as a high school physics teacher and an on-call firefighter. The house is a source of pride for me and I try to always keep it as a welcoming second home for my guests. My wife and 2 girls enjoy coming back to Galveston to visit the house and a few old friends as often as we can.
