About this property

Rocky Roost - OWNER Managed! 3BR 3BA, Fireplace, Pool Table, Fire Pit, Darts.

The Rocky Roost is a three bedroom/three bath (sleeps 8), hand-hewn log cabin located in Banner Elk/Seven Devils. This inviting cabin is thoughtfully furnished and artfully decorated. It is meticulously maintained and owner managed since October 2022!! We work hard to be one of the best VRBO rentals in Seven Devils. Book today!!

The Rocky Roost boasts an open floor plan on the main level. The living room features a beautiful stone wood-burning fireplace, and the dining area seats 8 with additional seating for 4 at the counter bar. There is also a table on the massive back porch that seats another 8!! The well-equipped kitchen has everything guests need to prepare meals. Guests can also enjoy using the gas grill on the rocking chair front porch.

The full-length, screened-in porch off of the main level is a wonderful retreat with its vine swing, Adirondack chairs, and hemlock outdoor dining table. The covered lower deck includes rocking chairs to take in the beautiful rhododendron in the spring and summer, and Devils Lake in the fall and winter months. Down another level from the back door is a fire-pit with Adirondack chairs ... the perfect place for roasting s'mores, sharing stories, and enjoying the nighttime air. Also out back is a covered gravel area for a fun game of corn hole. We have both full-sized corn hole boards and a mini-sized set for the little ones!! (Please note: if you are a former guest of The Rocky Roost, we no longer have a hot tub.)

A cozy bedroom with a queen bed is located on the main floor with access to a full bath. Upstairs guests will find another bedroom featuring a queen bed and a twin bed with a trundle and its own private bathroom. This bedroom opens to the loft, but has a privacy curtain that can be opened or closed. On the bottom floor is another bedroom with a queen size bed and has access to another full bathroom. You will find luxury linens and cozy blankets on all the beds with additional layers for cool mountain nights. Additionally, a queen size sleeper sofa is located on the lower level.

The home features wireless, high speed internet, and 5 large HDTVs all with Roku and Spectrum app capability. Spectrum service is provided, and guests can use their own accounts on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. There is a DVD player with the 50 inch television in the downstairs game room. The game room also features a slate pool table, dart board, and more. Additional amenities include many games, puzzles, and DVDs.

Within walking distance from The Rocky Roost are 2 small ponds, which are stocked for fishing, and a neighborhood trail!

Come and enjoy all that the mountains have to offer ... from snow tubing and skiing to hiking, river rafting, fishing, or simply relaxing. The Rocky Roost is located just minutes from Boone and Blowing Rock. Hawksnest is only a couple of miles away, featuring a huge zip line and snow tubing. Whether you are attending a football game at Appalachian State, hiking at Grandfather Mountain or Otter Falls, visiting the famous Mast General Store, riding the alpine coaster, golfing at Sugar Mountain or Boone Golf clubs, skiing at one of the numerous slopes, whitewater rafting, or enjoying the water at Wildcat Lake ... you will always find something fun to do year-round.

North Carolina's High Country is a favorite destination of families, couples, friends, and adventure-seekers. North Carolina has the highest mountains east of the Rockies and caters to adventurers of all abilities.

The Rocky Roost is in the Lakes neighborhood of Seven Devils and approximately 2.1 miles from Hwy 105. The road up can prove challenging in the winter months. Please plan on having 4WD/AWD/chains if there has been, or if there is a chance of, winter weather. You can do a websearch for "Seven Devils webcam" and find at least two showing current conditions.

We have a Ring doorbell at our front door, a Ring camera for the back deck stairs, and a Ring camera for the firepit - for safety reasons.

We hope that you will reserve your stay at The Rocky Roost sometime soon! Please note we are a pet and smoke free property. (If you are traveling with an animal, we kindly request that you select many of the pet-friendly rentals in Seven Devils. We personally have family members that are allergic. Thank you!)

Read our glowing reviews and book now!! All our reviews since purchasing The Rocky Roost in October 2022 are 10/10!!(Please note, the "Host Fee" that VRBO describes is our cleaning fee!)

Roosters!

This was a very cute property that was spotless and well-maintained--the decor was charming. It's evident that the owners care about making visitors' stay pleasant. The kitchen was really well stocked, which let us stay in and enjoy a few family dinners together. We especially enjoyed having a bonfire under the stars and the wood-burning fireplace. The area was peaceful and quiet, but convenient to Sugar Mountain and Hawksnest.

Much needed getaway in a beautiful cabin and location

Following months of quarantining, this was a much needed getaway. The cabin was beautiful, clean, and cutely decorated. My kids loved the ponds/small lakes for fishing (although they didn't catch anything), the pool table and the hot tub. We did lots of exploring and hiking (Otter Falls, Grandfather Mt., Alpine Coaster) and even a few tennis matches. Other than a few bees and empty propane tank, It was perfect. We would definitely rent again!

Lovely cabin with fun amenities and close to excellent hiking.

I stayed at Nikki's Cabin with 9 other women and it was an excellent vacation house. My only suggestions would be to have a step and mat on the deck beside the hot tub. It was slick as water on the deck froze and was very slick. The wood burning fireplace and large supply of wood was a comforting addition. The kitchen functioned very well for several people at once. Many thanks to Nikki for helping us feel so welcome in her cabin!

Treehouse in perfect location

We had a great vacation at the Rocky Roost! The nicely decorated house is in a wooded, quiet neighborhood with easy access to all the fun activities the mountains offer. There was one little issue with the hot tub, but the owner was very communicative and was able to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Our family enjoyed the hot tub, the pool table, and the fire pit. The screened in porch was also great. There was plenty of space for two families to sleep, and it was fun for the kids to count all the roosters. ;) Thanks Amy!

ABSOLUTELY THE PERFECT MOUNTAIN SETTING!!

Our family and our friends took retreat in this stunning cabin for 6 days, 5 nights and everything was perfect! The cabin is beautiful, clean, stocked with everything you could ever need or want and Nikki, the owner, is wonderful! Before we even checked in she was updating us, giving us trip ideas and cabin tips. The day we arrived she sent a text making sure everything went well and giving us her personal number should anything come up. The kids stayed well-entertained in the game room and all three bedrooms accommodated the adults perfectly. The cabin is right in the heart of everything you'd want to do, just a short distance from the main attractions at Sugar Mountain, Grandfather Mountain, Hawks Nest, etc. We would give this rating 10 stars if we could and we're already talking about coming back to stay next year!! Perfect in every way!!! THANK YOU for allowing us to stay at your beautiful place and enjoy the serenity that was around us while spending time with our family. The Linton Family

Great Cabin with amenities for all generations

This was our first trip to the area, and never having been there found the location of the cabin to be quite nice. We had three generations attending, and everyone found something they loved. We enjoyed dining on the covered patio as well as relaxing and hearing the early morning birds and smoky haze- very tranquil. We did luck out because there was no one renting the cabins on each side of us. There was a very loud group 2 cabins up and we were thankful they weren't right next to us. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the game room. The owner said she is going to fix the dart situation, but if you are excited about darts, you may want to bring your own with steel tips. We never did find the big lake, but know there is one somewhere around there! Google didn't pick it up, and there wasn't literature on it at the cabin when we went. Otherwise, the owner was easy to reach and very nice. Overall we very much enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely Excellent

This cabin was everything you could ever want in a get away vacation. Up in the mountains surrounded by nature. The interior of the cabin was beautiful and decorated so nicely. It really had that extra touch of charm and comfort that made us feel cozy and at home. There were tons of things to do there! Endless board games, grill, darts, pool table, fire pit and more. We really just enjoyed the hot tub and pool table, but if we had stayed longer we definitely would have put that cute fire pit to use! The owner had the kitchen fully stocked with appliances, plates, utensils, spices and etc. The cabin itself was built expertly and is gorgeous. It had other cabins close by but they are also rented out to other people on vacation, and we didn’t see or hear another soul the entire time we were there. Very close by there was a hiking trail in the Pisgah National Forest that was beautiful. We ended up ditching the trail and just scaling rocks down the river and had a blast!! There is also an Off Roading trail nearby if you have a vehicle built for that terrain. Really got our adrenaline pumping!!! The owner of the property was very kind and told us which trails were for more experienced off roaders and which were a little less intense. We loved this cabin as our vacation choice and really did NOT want to leave. We already started talking about coming back for a longer period of time in the near future! I personally loved it so much I’m considering ditching my life in Charleston SC and just moving to the mountains of North Carolina instead haha. If you’re thinking about renting this place for a vacation, I would HIGHLY recommend you do so.

Perfect Spot Near Blowing Rock and Vineyards

We loved our stay at the Rocky Roost with an out of state couple. The location is perfect - less than 10 minutes to Grandfather Vineyard, 15 minutes to Sugar Mountain, 25 minutes to Banner Elk winery, and less than 30 to Boone or Blowing Rock. The home is perfect for both families and couples. Each floor essentially has a bedroom and a bathroom which was very private and convenient. Loft would be perfect for a group of kids - could easily have two couples and a big group of kids or 3 couples. Kitchen has everything you need. Wood burning fireplace in the living room was great for morning coffee, as was the full screened in porch with another dining room set. Walking up and down the roads in the area made for a great workout! Hot tub was great for ending each day after a fire. We spent significant evening hours playing pool as well. With everything turned on, we never even turned on any of the televisions. New owners spent significant effort cleaning and I know they have future plans to upgrade a few items, but it was more than what we expected in the current condition and I would recommend for anyone.

Other than a few miscommunication about the AC working we had a wonderful stay. The Rocky Roost was great! Even with the rain we still enjoyed walking to the ponds close by and driving to Grandfather. We only stayed one weekend but would love to book again with more time to adventure.

2nd time staying

Last time we stayed was Oct 2020 and it was just me and my husband. This time we stayed April 2022 with our two kids. There were a few things I noticed or experienced this time, maybe because we were here in the off season, that might need to be addressed or checked out by the owners. Pros: The beds are comfortable. The pool table is great. The hot tub was nice after a long day of hiking. The area is really quiet. Even though there are other cabins close by you still feel very secluded. It snowed our first night there, just a dusting but still pretty. Cons: The owner sent me a message the day of our check in saying she had a lot going on that weekend and may not be very available or able to get back to me quickly if needed, which was fine. But she didn’t send me the door code. I had to send several texts and call a few times while sitting in the driveway before I was able to get in touch with her. Based on other reviews I don’t think this is typical but it was slightly stressful after driving 3 hours and then getting there and not knowing when we would be able to get in the house, especially since it was cold and snowing. The remote control in the main level bedroom either doesn’t work at all or the batteries were dead. We could turn the TV on by using the TV power button but there was no way to change the channels without the remote. We tried switching the batteries out with one of the other remotes but it still didn’t work so we couldn’t use that TV. The WiFi is really weak. My husband had to do some work but the WiFi wouldn’t even show up on his laptop. He ended up having to use his phone as a hotspot. And I found it easier to turn the WiFi off in order to look something up. There are some outlets that seem to only half work or are so loose they won’t even hold a plug. One in the basement looks like it sparked at some point because it looks burnt. There is some kind of thorny bush right next to the driveway that really needs to be cut back. If you’re exiting the car on that side you really have to avoid getting snagged. Overall this cabin is comfortable and the listing is accurate in its description.

Brian and I have both spent the majority of our lives in North Carolina and have raised our children here. Coming to the mountains as a family has always been a highlight! We are big hikers, and love getting on the trails any time of year. Nothing beats finding a cool, mountain swimming spot on a challenging hike in the hot summer!! We also love hiking in the winter, bundling up to enjoy the snow covered terrain. Of course, the fall in the NC mountains is heavenly with the cool breezes and gorgeous leaf colors. Not to be outdone, springtime with literal mountains of blooming rhododendron surrounding you is a sight to behold!

Why they chose this property

Through the years, we dared to dream of one day owning a mountain home. When visiting the mountains, we were always most enamored with the authentic hand-hewn cabins. They proved over and over again to be a wonderful setting for lots of family fun! When we saw The Rocky Roost for sale, it felt like the perfect property for us. The location is central to Banner Elk, Boone, and Blowing Rock. There is so much to do if you choose, or you can enjoy the quiet serenity that surrounds the house!!

What makes this property unique

After traveling to the NC mountains for most of our lives, we decided on Seven Devils for the great community, higher elevations, and proximity to everything!! The location is optimal, with literally every mountain activity imaginable only a short distance away.
