tIf you're looking for accommodations right in the village where you can walk to EVERYTHING, Casa Azul is your spot. The beach, bars, groceries, liquor... there is absolutely no need for a car or taxi for the duration of your stay.
Casa Azul is located at the end of a short street in a typical Belizean residential neighborhood. It offers comfortable accommodation with a lovely view of the canal that the boats pass to go out to sea. A basic but functional full kitchen and a peaceful covered patio provides a great place to sip your morning coffee and plan your day. You will probably not use the kitchen much because it's so easy to eat local for breakfast and lunch. $4 will get you a fresh juice and a breakfast burrito within a 2 minute walk and there are several $6 US typical Belizean local lunch spots very close.
The master bedroom is air conditioned but with the doors open it keeps the entire home comfortably cool.
The serene and typically quiet Placencia beach is literally 400 meters away.
Placencia village proper is a sleepy little village with an end of the road feel to it. Probably because it is at the end of the road. Ex pat's, locals and tourists mingle with a funky harmony. You'll feel safe everywhere in the village. Our family has been going to Placencia for 20 years and our kids roam with the other neighborhood kids with a comfy feeling of safety. We're in the heart of the village with local families and a few ex pats in the neighborhood.
What you're getting when you stay at Casa Azul is a modest but clean accommodations in a super central area located in a beautiful setting on the lagoon. Everything (groceries, pharmacy, hardware and dozens of restaurants) is within a 5 minute walk. This is NOT a fancy vacation rental. You will be staying in a typical Belizean neighborhood. This means your neighbors will occasionally play their Bob Marley through the day.
The outside patio is a great space to chill, watch the birds and iguanas, manatee swim by in the lagoon.
Many people use our home as a base for exploring Belize, others just want an economical place to chill out and experience Belize in a manner you can't when staying in a big resort or vacation home removed from the village.
If you're looking for a Cancun-esque type of experience, Placencia (and our rental) is not for you. Come here to chill, relax, do a few day trips, snorkel, beach it, etc.
Food is cheap if you eat Belizean and you could probably eat out 3 great meals a day for $25 US per day.
