About this property

Lagoon waterfront in the heart of Placencia Village - Casa Azul de Placencia

tIf you're looking for accommodations right in the village where you can walk to EVERYTHING, Casa Azul is your spot. The beach, bars, groceries, liquor... there is absolutely no need for a car or taxi for the duration of your stay.

Casa Azul is located at the end of a short street in a typical Belizean residential neighborhood. It offers comfortable accommodation with a lovely view of the canal that the boats pass to go out to sea. A basic but functional full kitchen and a peaceful covered patio provides a great place to sip your morning coffee and plan your day. You will probably not use the kitchen much because it's so easy to eat local for breakfast and lunch. $4 will get you a fresh juice and a breakfast burrito within a 2 minute walk and there are several $6 US typical Belizean local lunch spots very close.
The master bedroom is air conditioned but with the doors open it keeps the entire home comfortably cool.

The serene and typically quiet Placencia beach is literally 400 meters away.

Placencia village proper is a sleepy little village with an end of the road feel to it. Probably because it is at the end of the road. Ex pat's, locals and tourists mingle with a funky harmony. You'll feel safe everywhere in the village. Our family has been going to Placencia for 20 years and our kids roam with the other neighborhood kids with a comfy feeling of safety. We're in the heart of the village with local families and a few ex pats in the neighborhood.

What you're getting when you stay at Casa Azul is a modest but clean accommodations in a super central area located in a beautiful setting on the lagoon. Everything (groceries, pharmacy, hardware and dozens of restaurants) is within a 5 minute walk. This is NOT a fancy vacation rental. You will be staying in a typical Belizean neighborhood. This means your neighbors will occasionally play their Bob Marley through the day.

The outside patio is a great space to chill, watch the birds and iguanas, manatee swim by in the lagoon.

Many people use our home as a base for exploring Belize, others just want an economical place to chill out and experience Belize in a manner you can't when staying in a big resort or vacation home removed from the village.

If you're looking for a Cancun-esque type of experience, Placencia (and our rental) is not for you. Come here to chill, relax, do a few day trips, snorkel, beach it, etc.

Food is cheap if you eat Belizean and you could probably eat out 3 great meals a day for $25 US per day.

Blue lagoon

We stayed at the blue lagoon house for 3 months this winter and truly enjoyed our stay there. Nice being so close to the villiage and the house was comfortable, would definitely like to stay there again.

Loved this place!

My husband and I stayed in the house for two weeks last June. It is well situated to all shops and restaurants. It has everything you need to cook your own meals. We enjoyed morning coffee outside watching the wildlife. I would recommend it and plan to go back.

This was a great choice

We really enjoyed our stay. We stayed here for 2 weeks. The price was very reasonable, everything was nice and clean and the area was very convenient to everything that Placencia has to offer. The location on the lagoon was very nice. The house had everything we needed to cook our own meals at home when we wanted. We stayed in the downstairs unit. The neighbors upstairs were very nice. This is a great choice if you are looking for a clean, quiet, economical option for a great stay in Placencia.

Placencia Paradise

We stayed at Joseph's home for the month of February 2019. The house was just the right size for three of us. Loved sitting on the patio, watching the birds, butterflies and all the boats go by. It was so peaceful here. We would love to go back to placencia in the winter. We would stay much longer the next time. The neighbors are very friendly. The house was so close to everything. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you for the wonderful holiday. Hope to stay here again.

An amazing location in an amazing village

Could not have asked for the more perfect get-a-way! A place to hide away from the rest of the world and just enjoy life with the family! Property was perfect - clean and well maintained - just as if the owners lived there themselves. I would highly recommend this property. We enjoyed our tour guide Chino who took us to Monkey River; King Lewey Island, our son enjoyed deep sea spear fishing with Chino; Catamaran trip with Hank (owner of boat) we had lunch on Lark Caye was very tasty and plenty to eat. Don' miss the Mayan King Falls or a day trip to Xunantunich (leave early it's a good drive) be sure to stop and eat at Bertha Tomales on way to the ruins as well as stop at the Country Barn for Ice Cream. Speaking of Ice Cream the Village has an awesome ice cream store with wide variety of flavours. Shopping for Belize hand made items is a must in the Village - I picked up a beautiful necklace made from sea glass at Kaj Expressions. Plenty of restaurants to eat at and very reasonably priced. Barefoot, Tipsy Tuna, Rick's Yolis, be sure to stop at Brewed Awakenings for a coffee smoothy. Or outside the village for a bit 'fancier' of a meal go to Maya Beach Resort. There's a whole world out there to see and I'm happy Placencia Village in Belize was one of our destinations.

Blue House on The Lagoon was Our Home In Placentia

My wife and I travelled with her cousin. Our average age is 73 Yrs. My wife and I have travelled to Europe, the Orient, Mexico, Cuba and most of the USA and Canada. This was our first trip to Central America. We have stayed in Budget Hotels to Marriott's resorts. One review on this place gave us concern but the others seemed okay! We arrive at dusk and we were impressed with the residence. The next day we met our fellow Renter (Upstairs unit) It turned out It was "Scott" and his wife, one of the people who had reviewed earlier. I believe this is their fifth time in Placencia and their third time here. They were staying for two months! If we had any concerns about our choice they were erased at that point! They became our "Placentia Guides" and we enjoyed their company and our new friendship! We us enjoyed sitting in the covered, shaded deck watching the boats slowly pass by. (There is a no Wake Zone in the Lagoon.) We saw a couple of iguanas in the mangroves. The flowers set off the view of the mountains, in the distance, as we looked down the Lagoon. The sunset from the deck, over the Lagoon, was perfect in January and Feb. We love the sights and sound of water and this place offered an abundance of that! Joe checked in by email often to make sure we were doing "Okay" and making suggestions as to places we could "check out"! We had a couple of little problems, slow (drain )and they were looked after within a few minutes of "Thursday"( Maintenance Guy) finding out! Microwave died and was quickly replaced! Within 24 Hours we felt like we were home! We did rent a Golf Cart (With Scott and his wife) for 24 Hours. To tour the area. We were able to keep it Securely in the fenced area. ("The Compound") There would be room for a couple of vehicles, if one had a rental car. Speaking of Renting a car, for Scott and ourselves it was not necessary as the place is centrally located to Bars etc We have stayed in places that cost more for a week than this place cost for 39 days and, over all, for us, with the water, the weather (High 70's during the day, low 70's at night) we were very pleased! If you need a Marriotts Resort, or better, this place may not for you! If you enjoy, meeting local people, natural beauty of the Lagoon and beach, a home away from home in a local community, at a very reasonable price, this place maybe for you! We are planning a return trip! (We have checked the prices and found nothing compared for value, for us.

Perfect location, wonderful views

We loved our stay at Casa Azul. There was a little delay in checking in due to our arrival being delayed but Carol was very helpful and accommodating. Everything was pretty much as the listing described. The kitchen utensils and pots and pans were a little aged but were adequate for the amount of cooking we were doing. It's so close to a plethora of little local eateries that we rarely cooked breakfast or lunch anyway. We loved sitting on the sandy seawall watching the boats roll past the house. We spend most of our time at the house either on the patio or relaxing on the sand. The suite was basic but it was clean and suited our needs and was great value for the price. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Placencia. The best part of the rental

Stay Far Away

I'll start by saying I've never had to write a review like this for anywhere we have stayed, not even close. We (me, my husband and 12 year old) chose to stay here because of the reasonable pricing and the recent good reviews. This place is a classic example of why there should be truth in advertising; it's imperative that people know what they're in for, especially if there's a no refund policy in place. When we arrived it was clear that the house had not been cleaned in some time with layers of thick dirt and dust, and was left in a disarray by the previous tenants. We found used sundries, razors, food items, etc. strewn about the apartment, and our bed was unmade. When we tried to make it the bed collapsed and had to be repaired by a handyman. The toilet was murky and black with some kind of growth, and the entire home smelled of strong, stale urine. We had to clean the home ourselves, and we're quite shocked to find the commode was actually white. The stale and horrible urine smell never quite went away during our almost one month stay, despite multiple disinfections. The house was unbearably hot during the day, with 2 rickety fans provided. It was impossible to get any relief, and we were basically immobilized between 11am and 5pm if we were at the apartment. The bed mattresses were soft and worn, the linen was a joke, raggedy, threadbare and very old. We had to buy our own pots and pans to have decent cookware. Furniture was pretty filthy. The duplex is in an alley, and there are very large mounds of piled high garbage outside. It looked like they've been there for years and are quite disgusting. People actually walk down the alley to dump trash and litter. The immediate neighbors have no problem blasting their music at top volume all hours of the day, which made it impossible to read, watch tv, talk, or even think. We have been to many beach spots, but this is the first time we were practically eaten alive by bugs; they were so horribly itchy, and we couldn't discern if it was an outside problem or an inside one. This was the worst month we've ever experienced; we even left a few days early. I would imagine it was equivalent to living in a human version of a toilet. The owner claims that it's a humble place in town among the natives, but at some point he has to be accountable and responsible for the terrible and disheartening con he is letting trusting and unknowing travelers into. At least I am able to correct this in some measure.

Our stay at the blue house

We had a great time and the house was everything we expected. Joe made things very easy and hassle free. It was a close walk to everywhere we had to go and the nieghbourhood was friendly. We enjoyed peaceful mornings reading and listening to music on the lagoon it was a short walk to the beach to spend the afternoons and great restaurants near by for diner when we chose to eat out. A amazing experience

Wonderful month in the sun!

This was our 3rd trip to the blue house on the lagoon in Placencia Village. First 2 were 2 weeks each. This trip decided deserved a month. House is centrally located - can walk almost every where. Joe, Egbert, and Judith are very accommodating. If there are any issues, contact one them and things are handled very quickly. House is basically full equipped. Kitchen has what you need for cooking in or grilling on the patio. Bedrooms are comfortable, full bath with hot water showers, washing machine so you don't have to take the closet. Location is ideal that you don't need air, but there is a fan in every room that keeps it very comfortable. Stayed for one month. We are home and already sorry we didn't stay for two. But we WILL be BACk!

Thanks for your hospitality. We had a great time to stay at your house. Listing description was "under-promised and over-delivered". Great lagoon location (literally I could fish from the deck), quiet, safe, very clean and well-maintained place. The manager took a very good care of us. Everything was good, easy and in place., NO COMPLAINS AT ALL. I would definitely recommend this place to our friends.

6/10 Okay

Needs improvement

I stayed in the upper apartment for several months during the fall of 2013. I liked the location as far as the lagoon view from the veranda and within walking distance to the village. However, the immediate neighborhood leading to the house is sketchy with many run-down cabanas along the side street that you must walk past to get there, with chained and loose barking dogs. The next door neighbor has an upstairs drain that pours out from their cabana onto the ground next to the blue house. Also there was a big pile of trash sitting there for months outside of the neighbors cabana which smelled and looked bad, including a dirty baby diaper in the road. The neighbors also like to play music loud almost daily which is fine if you like their music choices since their are no glass windows on any cabanas, only wooden louvers. The interior has good square footage, but could use some updating. It's kind of dark with the dark hardwood floors and wainscoting walls throughout. Basic adequate kitchen but hope that the oven's propane gas tank doesn't run out while you're there or else it will be your responsibility to have to go through the time and trouble and expense of getting it refilled (over $25u.s.). Even being immaculately clean you will still get the occasional big-daddy roach running around, and there's always at least one gecko on the walls too, as they come in through the space under the front door. No closets in the bedrooms, only small armoires which looked dusty so I just kept my clothes laid out on the 2nd bedroom bed. No a/c, only ceiling fans in each room it can get really hot, especially during April through September. My only other complaint about the interior was the beds. The mattresses were thin, cheap, and uncomfortable, and the metal springs make crunching sounds just from laying down or rolling over. The wooden frames were squeaky and shaky and looked like they were about to pull apart. Same with both bedrooms. It was so bad I probably wouldn't stay there again unless the entire bed set was replaced.

Way beyond expectations & a must for all travelers , :)

my family and I lived herefor 10 months, September 1st 2011 till july 1st 2012.we are from Nova Scotia Canada and lived here with our 10 year old son. He went to the local school here and had a fantastic school year . we have searched a few countries all over the world on where to go to live and we chose belize because of the English language first, is a Commonwealth country, in the village of Placentia has everything in it and is approximately half a mile square with the best mainland beaches in the country. we were tring to find a reasonably priced place to live with 2 bedrooms with everything included so we came across Joe and Trisha wedges add for this beautiful blue home. Happens to be that I lived in Manitoba for 8 years and here Joe and Trisha are also for Manitoba so that was great to know where we were going to rent from someone from canada , in belize that was actually from our country . So that was nice. After sending a few emails we had sent our down payment for the one year lease . after having live there and got to know almost everyone in the village it is truly an amazing place to live. Joe & trish's Blue House is absolutely fantastic and you will not find a better place to stay for your money, guaranteed! living right on the Lagoon is absolutely fantastic views and the sunsets are incredible and we actually enjoyed it more than had we rented on the beach where as you'd only see the sunrise for a bit and never see the Sun sets yeah every night we saw the Sun sets of our deck in the upper rental unit, absolutely stunning beauty. the value that you get for your dollar here @ the beautiful blue home is incredible & you will not find a better price with a better unit to rent and live in , amazing privacy yet a1 minute walk to anything you need.Joe & trisha are abbsolutely amazing people to get along with and will go the extra mile to help you out to make sure everything goes well. Also where they know the local families so well for so long anything that you need from Egbert he's right there to help you out the best he can .anything that you need he'd make sure he got you in the correct direction. we got to know Joe ,Tricia and their children stormy and Maya well from their visits to belize why we were renting there. they are all really great people and I plan on moving back to belize and I hope to be able to get another year lease from Joe and Tricia for many years to come. contact me through joe if you wish with ANY questions!

Our Month In Belize!

We loved our little blue house! It's not a luxury accommodation but it has what you need and is very comfortable. Even on really hot days you could lay on your bed with a fan pointed at you and take a nap. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook lots of our meals and to boot had a gorgeous view right out the window. Now if we could do it again I might like to stay on the beach, lets be honest you can't beat looking out at the ocean off your front porch, but I bet we would rather stay here again. For twice the cost you can get something half the size that isn't as nice. Also one really nice thing about being lagoon side was the added privacy, we could sit out there without any one bothering us, and just relax. Also the lagoon is very beautiful in it's own right. Besides all that Placencia is a charming little village that made us feel completely welcome. The restaurants were mostly very good and Tuti Fruti the gelato place was amazing! The beach was a little disappointing but was still nice, we were a little bothered by the garbage, sea weed, and sea grass. After a couple days though we found the best spots for swimming and were pretty happy with the beach anyway. That said Central America isn't know for it's beaches but what it can definitely boast about is it's scuba diving. We went out to a few different trips but Silk Caye was the best. We saw dolphins, sharks, giant sea turtles, eagle rays, sting rays, barracudas, never mind all the small fish, and gorgeous coral. We also took jungle tours to Monkey River and Cockscomb Basin. We had a great time at both although we saw more wild life at Monkey River, including crocodiles, all sorts of birds, and of course howler monkeys! Not sure when we will be able to make it back to Placencia but if we do we will likely be staying in our little blue house!

outstanding

We stayed here for the whole month of Feb. It was excelent. The house had everything furnished except the refrigerator wasen't stocked with cod Belekin beer! Very clean ,comfortable and close to everything. Egbert the landlord was very helpful and informative. He was a joy to sit and visit with. He took very good care of us. The owners of the property were very helpful in their emails with us helping us find the best places to get what ever we needed. I would recomend the place to anyone except someone looking for a five star resort. However in my openiojn we deffinatly had a 5 star experince. Placencia is the best kept secret in Belize. Can,t wait till next time. We will deffinatly rent this house again.

Great Location, Comfortable Accomodations, Amusing Bird and Iguana Watching

The house is in a great spot on the lagoon, and right in the town of Placencia which is a bonus for walking to dinner and everything else. The house is simple and comfortable with all you need just as described. The owners are great people and were very helpful when we were planning and while we were there. I have recommended this place to everyone I know, because it is a great deal and includes a real kitchen. The lagoon is great for birds, iguanas, and even crab watching which is a fun way to spend the morning after a late night at the Barefoot Bar. The food in Placencia is simply amazing. Every meal was delicious. We ate at Omar's, RumFish, Barefoot Bar, Wendy's and De Tatch. The gelato and the flavored soft serve are both grand especially after snorkeling. The water comes from a mountain aquifer and is crystal clear, delicious, and safe so drink up. We snorkeled with Splash and Avadon. Both places did a great job. Avadon is worth the extra bucks especially if you head to the atoll. We hiked unaccompaniied at Mayflower, Cockscomb, and Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit ruins. Mayflower has an adventurous waterfall hike with a great jumping spot. The vistas and swimming hole at Cockscomb were great too. We did not tube, because it was getting late and the bugs were hungry. If you head south to the ruins - you will see Mayan villages along your way, few other tourists, and beautiful country. If you go there eat at Coleman's Cafe - another great meal. Oh and by the way if you meet Carl, Thomas or Enrique - Garfunian's on the beach - please give them a hug from Holly. Enjoy.

As described

We found it to be just as described. Edgar was very helpful. Basic, simple, clean, accomodations. The beds were comfortable. The sunset over the lagoon was beautiful. It was nice to have a clothes line to dry our wet clothes and we found the neighbors to be friendly as well. Few minutes walk to everything: beach, tour boats, shops, restaurants, stores, etc. We found some great restaurants that the locals go to which provide great food for a song within walking distance. Tuti Frutti is a daily visit for gillatto by many local expats. Great place to just hang out and relax. If you crave excitement, the most you we got was the birds on the roof in the morning and 2 racoons walked past the house one evening. This is not a pure tourist area but rather a local community with tourism in it so you get a local feel which was nice. We went the first week of Dec. so there were not many tourists in the area which was nice and it was not that crowded. Recomendation: If you take a snorkel/dive tour, go on a hot not windy day.

Will go back...

The location was in the heart of the main part we visited, yet had a private location to watch the sunset on the lagoon. Clean and reasonably priced. Would not hesitate to rent it again.

We're a Canadian family who aspires to avoid the cold winters by spending time in beautiful Belize. In the interim, Belizean friends of ours help us by managing the property on our behalf.

Why they chose this property

We love Belize, especially Placencia. The tourism here is more a backpacker and expat kind of crowd. The people from the big resorts wander into town on their golf carts but tend to wander back just as quickly. It's English speaking, beautiful weather, friendly people, great food. What more could you ask for

What makes this property unique

There are very few economical rentals in the village. The location is perfect and you can walk to anything. By far the best feature of property is the outdoor living space. The patio provide a cool place to chill with a great view of the lagoon and canal. Manatees swim by with their babies and iguanas are always in the trees and on the seawall.
