Outstanding stay at this property…our host was available via email whenever needed. Gorgeous long range Mountain views. Used the outside porch to enjoy the weather and sounds of the natural stream running along the side of the property. Our family loved it.

Best VRBO stay ever!

We had a wonderful vacation at the cabin. We felt at home and very welcomed by our hosts. They went above and beyond to help us with anything we needed. The cabin has everything one would need and then some. The beds were comfortable and the views were outstanding. We will return to Wolf Laurel!

Beautiful Mountain Stay

We cannot say enough about this home. It is a cozy cabin with stunning views. Cozy is not to say it is small, it was just welcoming and comfortable. My husband had coffee on the deck every morning and when we were around, we had dinner out there, enjoying the peace and sounds of birds and the nearby stream. The owners have thoughtful touches throughout, including mouthwash and other toiletries, blankets in the living spaces, and even a basket of OTC medicines. Appliances are beautiful and updated, and the furniture was all very comfortable. The owners are very responsive and helpful. There is so much to explore on the resort property itself. We hope to be came back soon!!

Great mountain retreat

Great property with nice mountain views. It's a good balance between feeling secluded without feeling cutoff from civilization. The house was well stocked with kitchen stuff, coffee, and toiletries. The owners were incrediblly responsive when we were confused about something and messaged them. The driveway can be tricky to get up, especially in the dark. Close by access to the Big baldy mountain trail that connects with the Appalachian Trail and goes to the a mountain summit with great 360° mountain views. The blue ridge Parkway is also not too far away (45 mins drive).

Amazing views

First, the owners were great to work with. They communicated every step of the way and were quick to respond to any questions. Second, the cabin has amazing views. We spent a great deal of time on the deck taking in the views and enjoying the peace and quiet. The babbling brook next to the cabin really added to the serenity of it all. Finally, I have stayed in many VRBO homes and this cabin was the most well stocked VRBO rental I have ever stayed in. Whenever we needed something for cooking, (even spices, storage bags or aluminum foil) they had it. Thanks for everything. We will be back.

Breathtaking views and neighborhood !

My family and I come to the mountains every year and this is by far the most beautiful neighborhood and mountain we have been too. The drive up the mountain is filled with beautiful views, deer that are more like dogs they just look at you and go about their day! The house is cozy, clean and comfy ! We had snow on the first day and the house stayed so warm with the fire place ! Our daughter is almost two and the gates in the home made us feel very safe inside and on the deck ,great job guys!! Well stocked for everything you might need, the owner was beyond helpful and we won’t forget his kindness. Adorable general store for any small grocery item you might need or just a cup of coffee, spa is next to it .. I hope to try that next time. We also got to snowboard! Awesome mountain right down the road. You won’t be disappointed in choosing this wonderful place. Thank you!

A Cozy Getaway

We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin. The main living space was comfortable, and the open kitchen and living room made it easy to socialize while cooking. The kitchen was well equipped, and the beds were comfy. The owner, Giles, even decorated for the holidays, which was very cute. We used the fireplace a lot and loved it -- a fire to insulate against the chill outside was incredible. The proximity to the Appalachian Trail was also amazing. A short drive (or walk) to an access point was easy. And the one-mile hike up to the Big Bald Lookout, while a little strenuous, featured 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. So worth it, and so close! The only unexpected detail was that while the downstairs bathroom did have a jetted tub (as per the listing), it did not have a shower. There were four people in our party, and everyone using the upstairs bathroom shower worked just fine. But if more people were occupying the home, that share could be a potential challenge depending on personal preference. All in all, we had a wonderful, wonderful time. Thanks so much to Giles for sharing his home.

Fall in Wolf Laurel

This house is in the community of Wolf Laurel, beautiful hikes to Big Bald and so much more to see! It has stables, a nature trail and so close to the surrounding towns. A little stream runs outside the cabin and you can hear it. The views are spectacular. While you are driving thru the community you will see numerous deer. One night on the deck we saw a momma and twins. Wild turkey roam around. Giles and Katie the hosts make you feel like you really are family. Very personable and you know they care about their guests. It literally feels like they ran off to the store and just let you stay their. They have thought of everything!! We can not thank them enought for letting us stay in their beautiful home, we had come from the ruins of Ft Myers after the effects of Hurricane Ian. So much destruction. We needed the cleansing of the Smoky mountains to assure us that all is still well in the world. God bless you both for making our vacation so special and your personal attention was so kind. Perfect Weekend Getaway

This location came with some stunning views from the porch! You can catch the sunrise and sunset over the valley with an unhindered view. Hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed and provide us with some great recommendations! Minutes away from some great hikes (dog-friendly), including the Appalachian train and Bald Mountain. It’s also only a quick 40 minute drive to downtown Asheville. The proximity of this cabin was so helpful for a weekend full of hiking and exploring the area. The cabin itself made for a great space to unwind from a day full of adventures. We especially loved having coffee on the front porch each morning while we watched the sunrise and listened to the creek nearby. 10/10 recommend this cabin. We are already talking about our next trip!

About the host

Hosted by Giles G (Terry) Childress

Host profile image
I grew up nestled between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian mountain ranges in southwest part of Virginia, became an engineer (Thank you Virginia Tech!) moved to Charlotte NC metro area and lived the last 40+ years, now retired and enjoying some leisure and especially the mountains.

I feel the stress melt away when I come to the cabin. The sights and sounds of the wildlife (birds, turkeys, deer and occasional bear) and the adjacent stream provide a very relaxing environment in which to unwind. As your host I'd like to share that experience with others seeking a peaceful getaway.

Why they chose this property

I bought the cabin in 2018 to enjoy long and short getaways, preferring the solitude and remoteness and to take in the natural beauty; and only began renting it out in 2022. It is rustic, cozy, and comfortable, yet with all the modern comforts I need (well appointed kitchen, internet, SmartTV, electric mattress warmers for the winter, plenty of kitchen and bathroom supplies).

I love enjoying time up here with friends and family without the daily distractions of home. Indeed, its quality time here. The rustic aroma you sense walking into the cabin the first time will melt the stress away. I looked at about 8-9 homes before settling on this cabin; of the homes I looked at, this one just felt right for all the reasons above.

I can open the windows on the creekside of the cabin and listen to the soothing sound while taking in the spectacular views, both short range and long range from the Queen Bedroom or just sitting on the deck at 4800 feet.

Deer and wild turkey routinely walk through the property.

What makes this property unique

The home is a real log cabin and positioned high elevation (4800 feet) near Big Bald Mountain and the AT and has a small creek running through the middle of the property, all while having a southeasterly exposure toward the Blue Ridge mountains including Mt. Mitchell about 35 miles away. The property has extensive boulder landscaping along the driveway and parking area and in front of the cabin. The views of the stars and galaxy on a clear night are spectacular.

Positioned below Big Bald Mountain, we are conveniently located about 3-4 miles drive to the new Hatley Pointe ski resort.
