About this property

The Hill House at Turtle Lake

Summary:
The Hill House is a unique lakeside gem: a forested three acre hilltop retreat perched above clean, lovely Turtle Lake. It is 10 minutes from restaurants, 30 minutes from Detroit Lakes, 45 minutes from Fargo, and 3.5 hours from the Twin Cities.

The Space:
This spacious lake house sleeps 10 in seven beds (1 king, 2 queen, 2 twin, 2 upper bunk) in four bedrooms named for Scandinavian countries. An 11th person can spend the night using the roll-away bed or couches (all new). (Groups of more than 15 during the day require advance permission).

-Bedroom 1: King Bed
-Bedroom 2: Twin Bed
-Bedroom 3: Twin over Queen bunk bed and Twin over Twin bunk bed (total of 4 mattresses)
-Bedroom 4: Queen Bed

The house was updated in 2022-23. It has two full baths (one with a bathtub/shower, one with just a shower), large kitchen, W/D, dishwasher, wifi, and two new smart TVs.

Relax on two second-floor decks: one to the east for sunrise through the forest, one to the west for gorgeous nightly sunsets over the lake.

Turtle Lake is ideal for swimming, fishing, and boating. A public access is nearby. Bring your boat and kayaks!

Roast marshmallows and stare up at the cathedral-like oak canopy above the fire pit. Along with the grill, the fire pit overlooks the lake and its spectacular evening hues.

In autumn and winter, curl up by two indoor fireplaces. Very cozy in the winter, this lake retreat offers great cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. Detroit Mountain is a 30 minute drive, offering downhill skiing and tubing.

The Hill House is quiet and secluded. It has a 500 foot private wild shoreline, with forest on two other sides. Nestled in the woods at the end of quiet road, there is zero traffic. The lawn is massive. A magical winding path leads down the rustic hillside to the new dock. Pause at the towering Cottonwood tree to watch Bald Eagles roost and fish. Walk the hilltop Edge Walk at dusk, and then stargaze in the open embrace of your own private meadow.

Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire property for the duration of their stay, with the exception of a few locked storage areas.

The Neighborhood:
Turtle Lake is a quiet lake that is an easy drive from Fargo (45 min), Detroit Lakes (30 min), and 10 minutes from restaurants and convenience stores.

Getting Around:
You'll need to drive here, but there is plenty of room for parking for several vehicles. The boat access for the lake is on the north side of the lake. Follow the signs at the turn off for the cabin.

Interaction with Guests:
Your host, Noah, is available before and during your stay via message, text, or cell.

Nice location, lots of privacy

Plenty of space in the house. The property is nice and big and the area down by the lake great. The kids caught bass, northern pike, and bluegill from the dock.

Retreat at the Hill House

Our women's group retreat at the Hill House was a wonderful time of connecting with nature which left us feeling refreshed and spiritually renewed. The house is comfortable, with plenty of sleeping rooms and areas to accommodate meals and gatherings. We enjoyed exploring the spacious, well-maintained grounds and experiencing the peaceful silence of this lakefront haven.

Very nice

Stayed here with family and friends for my son’s wedding in the area. House was very clean and in a great area. Owner has the home very well appointed with all the necessities, appliances and kitchen equipment you may need. We didn’t get much time to enjoy the external property but it was well kept and expansive. You can tell the owners care about their guests having a nice relaxing time when staying at the house.

Cabin is very dirty. Not worth the money

The location is nice, but the house itself is old and has a noticeable odor. The washroom is dirty, with stains in the toilets, bathtub, and a metallic smell in the water. All the rooms have odors and are not clean. The decor and the overall condition of the house are outdated. The website showed pictures of water toys, but when we arrived, there were none. If they don't offer water toys, they should update the website's pictures. My kids were really looking forward to water activities but ended up very disappointed. Overall, this cabin is dirty and not worth the money.
