Originally an Inn, this is now a large waterfront home on a peaceful island
This is a large waterfront home on the peaceful island of Vinalhaven, Maine. Guests love the large sunporch as well as the hiking within steps at Lanes Island Preserve. Walk to town in just minutes. We are pet friendly but we do ask our guests to leave the property as clean as possible. Take the Ferry from Rockland to Vinalhaven. The home is on the water just a short walk from the Ferry. Also note that this is a "3 season cottage" with no central heat. This is why it's only available for rent during late spring and summer, when the temperature is perfect from the ocean breeze.

Love Vinalhaven, and this place is great. The porch with the big table is my favorite. Whole house is roomy and clean. Cleaners were there an hour or so past checkin time, but not a big deal.
A unique property in a perfect setting. Plenty of spaces to gather and plenty of spaces for solitude. Charming and unique with enough amenities for comfort. So many beautiful places to walk and take in the island.
This old inn is a magical stay in an amazing location, so close to Lane's Island and town. It has many, many beautiful old windows that make the house a breezy delight and offer water views that make you feel like you are floating on the water. If you are searching for a charming farmhouse-like accommodations this is the place for you - High ceilings, the large windows, slanting woods floors, three stories and 9 sweet bedrooms, a wonderful covered front porch and the most glorious glassed-in porch for dinners and games.
All this charm does comes with a rustic element. The kitchen, while very roomy, has no dishwasher. Thankfully we had four kids to wash up after dinner! The bathrooms are very basic - one with just a claw foot tub (which could easily be converted to a shower) and the other with a very small camp-like shower. The washer and dryer were very helpful amenities as were the multiple refrigerators and freezers. The kayaks were an added source of fun and adventure for the kids
The entire family absolutely loved our stay - soul is more important than luxury in our books!
Naomi was extremely prompt in her responses to all our questions. Thank you!
Vinalhaven is Maine like it used to be, and this former inn matches it nicely. The house was a cozy spot for our group of family and friends of mixed ages. The many rooms gave everyone space, while the stunning porch allowed for wonderful communal dining and quality time. The house was well appointed (though the bathroomscould be renovated), especially the kitchen that conveniently spanned across three rooms. The hosts were helpful from afar, and quickly did their best to address missing towels. Unfortunately for us the weather did not cooperate during our stay, but we still were easily able to explore the island from this excellent location. Thank you for a memorable stay!
I booked this place for my wife’s 40th and surprised her with some friends/family for a couple nights. The house is a beautiful old inn and was perfect for our group with plenty of bedrooms. The sunroom porch that hangs over the water with a large table was awesome for our lobster feast. Sitting on the deck out back was like watching a post card. It was also very convenient that it was only a short walk into town.
My group had a great time at the bridge house, plenty of room for everyone and such a cool location. Naomi was very responsive and caretaker stopped by as soon as we were checking in to introduce himself and let us know to reach out of we need anything. We had fun nights cooking, hanging out in the kitchen and playing left right center. Quintessential island house. I think someone updates wouldn’t hurt here and there, but our group did not care. Overall a great experience!
