Peaceful stay with horses

We had a relaxing weekend at the Hideaway. The property was as described, very quite, comfortable and had all that we needed. We enjoyed finding and riding nearby trails. Our horses enjoyed the turn out and fresh air. We will be staying again!

Perfect Getaway!

Could not be more happy with our post Christmas stay. Amazing communication from the host and she was sweet enough to offer assistance during our stay. The host even had a beautiful Christmas tree still lit up for us. We rented both the loft and house and could not be happier with our decision. Stayed with my brother and his family which included a 17, 11 and 10wk old. The house was perfect for all. Lots to do with games and such and exploring the surrounding area. Close enough to town to get what was needed. The kitchen was well stocked as we cooked all of our meals as a family. And the grill outside was amazing to have some burgers. We as a family are already planning another trip.

Last minute getaway

We found this property had horse accommodations. It was a reasonable price and worked perfect. We loved riding off right from the property. The horse seemed to enjoy their stay as well. We stayed in the loft. For our short stay it was great. They had a crossword puzzle book we did together. We plan to stay again probably this summer.

Wonderful Stay

This is a lovely place to stay with all of the comforts of home, including a lovely host! We had a great time in the home and exploring the beautiful area. We saw deer, squirrels, bluebirds, woodpeckers, rabbits, all on the property. We missed the elk but they definitely came through, as well. Thank you so much, Cindy! Can’t wait to come back! FYI - I used the Waze app to navigate us and it was accurate.

Their haven was my heaven, it was so quaint and walking the property and finding little things for my 6 year old boy who did not leave and kept telling me, we should move here. Cindy was amazing in making sure we were well and safe, she emailed me beforehand to provide me with directions on how to get there, I should have read my email, but she has amazing neighbors that helped us. If you are looking to detach from reality this is the place Thank you for sharing your haven with us.

Romantic Paradise

We stayed at the main house since we were having trouble accessing our rental with the keypad lock. I was impressed with Cindy’s level of Customer Service to accommodate us and she kept in touch with us the entire way to confirm we were comfortable. I love the space, the fireplace, the size of the shower, and the comforter bed in the master room. I will definitely come back and stay again.

Paradise in the pines

This place is a bit secluded and is an absolute heaven away from the busy everyday life. We arrived to find a beautiful homestead, clean, quaint, and welcoming. The owners on site made sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We slept like babies in the comfortable bed and quality furnishings allowed for added comfort. It was super quiet, everything was clean and well kept. The property was beautiful, our son loved petting the horses and exploring. Great proximity to woods canyon lake, seeing an elk on the drive in was an added bonus as well. We will absolutely be back. The only downside is that we couldnt stay longer and had to return to the Phx heat. welcoming.

Peaceful and Unforgettable! Read the Reviews

Best weekend getaway by far… so many great things to share about this rental… I initially chose this place for the king bed and remote location. Plus the amazing reviews… we could not have been more impressed and excited to find such a beautiful place! The rental was clean and well maintained… with everything we needed. The best nights sleep away from home ever! The drive to the property was breathtaking and made you truly feel like you were deep in the mountains and time just slowed down! The host gave amazing directions as GPS didn’t route properly and was so responsive when we contacted her about arriving after dark. We found the place without issue. It’s far enough out that you get that magical wilderness feel, but close enough to town that you can easily get what you need. We were so impressed with the welcoming book with local attractions and eatery suggestions! We had contacted the host about a question while we were there and she was so kind and helpful… We spent one of our days exploring, grabbed dinner and made it back to enjoy an evening walking the property and enjoying the weather and scenery. Not to mention the wildlife that was nearby… Can’t wait for a return trip here!

Beautiful deep in the forest homestead!

My husband and I were looking for a quiet weekend away and certainly found it here. The loft was clean, accommodating and enjoyable. Cindy was open to all communication and made our stay very pleasant. She provided lots of hints for restaurants, hiking and more. The area is deep in the forest with lots of places to visit nearby or simply walk the forested neighborhood. Her own property is authentic and large. Very beautiful. We will likely revisit again!

About the host

Hosted by Cindy Martin

Host profile image
Cindy and her husband Dave are avid equestrians. They love to bring their horses and ride the trails all over the mountain. They purchased their original property, The Homestead because they fell in love with the history and found out later it was Homesteaded by Cindy's ancestors in 1895! In their spare time, they work on renovating properties. Dave is the ultimate handy man following Cindy's visions!

Why they chose this property

In 2019 we came upon an extraordinary property under the rim and knew we wanted to be the next guardians of The Homestead. We committed ourselves to providing TLC (Tender Loving Care) and BST (Blood Sweat and Tears) required to preserve its history while transforming it into something special to share. The next year we purchased the property adjacent to The Homestead and began to make it a perfect getaway for family and friends. We hope you enjoy your time at one of our two Retreat accommodations, and that you will make some wonderful memories in this spectacular spot right under the Mogollon Rim.

What makes this property unique

The Colcord Mountain Retreat and the Colcord Mountain Hideaway are adjacent to each other and located on the SW corner of the Martin Family Homestead. Both the Retreat and the Hideaway can be rented together or individually. Perfect for enjoying a getaway with family or friends to enjoy the spaces that scream "mountain retreat"! Kick back and relax in multiple indoor and outdoor spaces within the nearly 7 acre Homestead.
