A Piece of Paradise on Earth
Words cannot do justice to any description of Casa Angular or the time spent there. This property is everything that the listing and photos communicate, but numerous times over.
Even before arrival, the communications with the owner, Mark, and the caretaker, Colleen, were cordial and informative. Colleen met us at the property the day of our arrival and was available to us whenever we needed throughout our stay with suggestions about local events and festivals, and answers to questions about grocery availability and beach access.
The property’s setting is of course the focal point. You are 100% removed from the “real world” as you take in the beauty of the natural surroundings. We were struck by the differences of the sounds around you as the day progresses. Distant murmurs of the world awakening in the morning, incredible silence and stillness in the late afternoons, followed by the slow introduction of the island’s signature evening symphony of coquis as the sun sets.
The house itself is appointed with all modern amenities and items, available for use to visitors. Each day we would figure out a different beach or area of interest that we wanted to visit. Then we would pack our lunch into one of the on-site coolers, grab the beach chairs and towels (all provided) and head out for our excursion. Coming home hours later, we would blend up a delicious frozen drink and cool off in the pool.
I tend to be a very “hot” person and was someone skeptical/nervous about the idea of there not being any A/C. However, as described in the listing, the regular breezes (and the fact the entire house opens to let them in) kept me completely comfortable throughout the week.
The road back to Casa Angular is (as are most roads on Vieques) somewhat of an adventure, but not to be feared as long as you have a proper vehicle. We rented a Jeep, and I would highly advise it, or something like to anyone coming to the island. There are UTV rentals, and I suppose those work if you are staying close to one of the two cities (Esperanza especially), but if you are commuting daily to and from a property that is any decent distance from the shores (and up in the hills) I think you might regret it.
In closing, our stay at Casa Angular was a highlight of our trip to Puerto Rico, and it made our anniversary celebration all the more magical. I cannot recommend this property enough.
