Beautiful historic home in the country! Hosts are very welcoming with fresh baked cookies and snacks and very accessible if you need anything. We had a very cozy and peaceful stay. We also loved hearing the nearby church bells.
Really nice stay in an historic old home. Old world charm for sure. If you don’t mind being 30 minutes from restaurants and city services it’s amazing. Loved the peace and quiet.
We cannot say enough about this delightful guest house. Everything from the finishing touches, the quality linens, the stocked pantry, and oh so yummy homemade cookies made our stay extra special. My aunt and mother(matriarchs of the family) compared features of the home to childhood memories. Perfect as we attended my nephew's wedding and created new memories. Thank you Paul and Diane.
We chose this home for a wedding weekend. It is in the perfect location. We were five minutes away from the wedding venue and only 25 minutes away from Frederick, Maryland. We were able to obtain an Uber, which made the evening enjoyable for all.
The home was stocked with everything that you would need and more.
We had such a great time and enjoyed staying at the property immensely. Hosts were super accommodating and the welcome basket with soft jazz music was such a great touch when we arrived after several long hours on the road. We couldn’t be happier with the peace and location of the home. Will definitely be back!
Thoughtful renovation of classic structure that retained the character and added all of the conveniences of modern living. Little touches such as cookies, snacks and a bottle of wine welcomed us. Kitchen well equipped and stocked for cooking. Comfortable beds, huge supply of linens and televisions that were regular cable rather than streaming services were greatly appreciated.
We loved our stay at the Country House. The owners were easy to communicate with and the property was spotless and better stocked than any other VRBO we have stayed at. It is a very unique home and was even better than the pics. Beds were very comfortable, air conditioner worked great (it was very hot in Gettysburg during our stay). We would definitely stay here again if we returned to the area.
This is probably the nicest rental we have ever stayed in. It was impeccably decorated, cozy, charming and filled with so many amenities including a stocked pantry and a fridge full of breakfast fixings, half and half for coffee, and alcoholic and nonalcoholic refreshments. We particularly appreciated the eggs from our hosts own chickens!
Communication with our hosts was seamless and easy. They had fresh cookies and soft jazz waiting for us in our rental when we arrived. They were very accommodating and allowed our visitors to park in their driveway.
We were attending a family wedding and wish we could have stayed longer to explore the beautiful countryside and local color. As it was we went bowling, played some of the games that were in the rental, and celebrated with family at the Anthem 1844 in nearby Taneytown for the wedding.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts for a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable weekend!
We had such a lovely stay in Paul and Diane's General Store-turned-home! They were wonderful hosts, and made us feel so welcome. The home was super charming, with wonderful details throughout. It wasn't far from Gettysburg, so we drove there every day and had an altogether fantastic trip.
We had a very relaxing weekend
The place was gorgeous. Loved the old building with the modern conveniences. The hosts went out of their way. Left Frank a birthday gift basket, fresh farm eggs and delicious chocolate chip cookies. Had everything we needed and then some. The pictures did not do this place justice. Much better in person. Would definitely recommend this as a place to get away.
We spent the majority of our time exploring Gettysburg, and this house was very convenient and absolutely beautiful. The host had so many amenities for us, the bed was extremely comfortable. We even heard/saw Amish buggies pass by. We will definitely ask to stay again if we come back to this area.
The General Store was a neat house, from the red brick to the inside windows. The hosts were more than welcoming with Country Music(Our Fave)playing, candle burning and nice temperature. The gift basket and cookies were so yummy.
It was amazing the restoration of the old general
Kept a lot of the original pieces mixed with modern amenities I highly recommend this home to future guest peaceful and I loved the church bells
What a beautiful and cozy little place. Host are fantastic, place has everything you need and then some . They also make sure everything was fully stocked and left some nice treats. Best rental we have stayed at yet. !!!! Book now!
More than advertised! A country store converted to a dream destination.
We arrived at the property and were already in awe of the location.
Our hosts Paula and Diane had a welcome basket waiting for us when we entered their incredible general store. It was well appointed and had a great kitchen. They thought of everything. Oh, the cookies they left for us, my kids are still talking about them.
The light there at sunset and the star filled skies were breathtaking. Looking west was a view of the Blue Ridge mountains. A great place to get away from everything. Staying in isn't for you? Gettysburg, PA is a short drive north and Frederick, MD is about the same distance south. Battlefields, antiques, wine tasting tours of vineyards, sight-seeing and about anything you'd like. We spent the afternoon in Washington DC with the kids, coming home to this little hideaway was a real treat. Did i mention its surrounded by several lovingly restored homes?
We waited to post this. We loved it so much, we didnt want to miss our next chance to visit. We know when the word gets out about this special place, Paul and Diane will be making new friends every week.
We are already booking our next visit.
You might want to book one too.
Paul and Diane did a wonderful job converting this old general store into a sweet retreat. Lovely layout with everything you need. We appreciated the over the top items like pantry staples, snacks, eggs and even butter. We were greeted with fresh flowers, fluffy towels and a comfy bed. It was unique to have the upstairs sleeping area which meant one of us could rise earlier than the other (2 full bathrooms). Beautiful 25 min rural drive to Gettysburg. Taneytown just 10-15 minutes away for groceries, restaurants, antique mall...
Will come again. Thank you!
My family and I stayed here while in the area for thanksgiving, and we loved our stay in the general store! It had all of the charm of an old historical building, but all of the modern upgrades you need to be comfortable. There’s a full size washer and dryer, a fully equipped kitchen, and ample sleeping locations. The hosts also were very hospitable and supplied nearly everything you could need to feel at home, as well as some very generous welcome gifts. The only thing to note is that the sleeping areas are upstairs and the stairs are a bit narrow, but it was no issue for our group of all adults- it could be a little dicey for children though. Overall we had a lovely stay and would absolutely recommend!
