About this property

Pet friendly and ask us about private flyfishing on the ranch as well! Built in 2006 and just remodeled with new appliances and paint, this charming cabin on a private cattle and horse ranch is surrounded by fragrant sagebrush and chokecherry bushes and offers views, privacy, and peace. There is a large fenced yard, a private patio with new furniture including cushions, a new gas BBQ grill, and a chimenea with firewood provided. Inside, you have a full kitchen, a bedroom, and a full bathroom that includes a new washer and dryer. In the living room, you will find a new pull out queen sized couch, a recliner, a TV, and a woodburning stove. there is a dining table for 4 and an eating bar with two stools as well. The porch offers evening sun, while the patio has morning sun- a perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee! We have plenty of parking, so if you are bringing a boat, your snowmobile trailer, or your side by sides, you will have no problem parking and turning around. This is the only cabin on our ranch other than our private home, which is barely visible from the porch of the cabin due to large bushes and trees. You are less than 15 minutes from downtown Gunnison and Gunnison Regional Airport, and about 40 minutes from Mt. Crested Butte. You can also drive East on Highway 50 and be at Monarch Mountain Ski Resort in 35 minutes. Blue Mesa Lake is less than 30 minutes away. Our gate is located between mile markers 167 and mile marker 168 on US HWY 50. Google map may be slightly off, so look for the gate between those mile markers. We have added photos of our gate and wagon wheel mail box to help you recognize us.

Truly paradise

No words can accurately express the exceptional stay we enjoyed. Brad and Michele Phelps are fantastic hosts! They have thought of everything a guest might need. The setting alone will make you never want to leave. The location for our hiking plans was perfect as we could access Gunnison area and Crested Butte. This property not only provides a sweet cabin but pastures of horses on a pristine ranch expanse. We enjoyed feeding the horses with Brad and Michele one evening. We already can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much Brad and Michele! Oh, and a huge shout to Brad, THE MAN, who helped change a flat tire on our truck the day we left! Amazing!

Comfy cabin at the Ranch

Joyful, comfortable, and peaceful are just 3 of the great adjectives that describe our holiday at the ranch. The cabin was like coming home with all the amenities. Not far from town, easy to find, and a dark sky for stargazing. The lovely terrace with a grill and plenty of seating for outside enjoyment only added to the ambiance of the property. The decor and attention to detail was perfect. My dog loved the fenced area too! We definitely want to stay here again. Thanks Brad and Michelle for being such amiable hosts. The property was just as you described it - and more!

Perfect Place

Our stay was awesome! Cabin had every thing you need and more. Property owners were responsive and the most friendly people! They were kind enough to invite us into their home one evening to talk hunting and life in general. The property is gorgeous! Every morning we woke up to elk up on the hill side while we were enjoying our coffee on the porch. If you are needing a getaway do not hesitate to book this place. We will be making this annual trip and will stay here every opportunity we can! Thank you guys for generosity and hospitality!

Great relaxing stay!

The stay was much needed, and it was perfect! Great views, easy access to things to do, and, the best part, I had nothing to do and had my 3 dogs with me! We don’t get to vacation like this very often so thank you for allowing us!! Seeing the horses in the mornings was a wonderful perk!

We had an amazing stay at this property. The hosts were extremely friendly and responsive to any needs we had. The ability to bring all three of our dogs was a bonus. We will stay here again if our travels bring us back to Gunnison.

Great cabin getaway

This is a lovely cabin, tucked away on a beautiful ranch in rural Gunnison. My girlfriend and I needed a relaxing getaway, and this spot checked every box! Brad and Michelle are so welcoming and positive. If you’re looking for a hidden quiet getaway, this is the spot!

Weekend Getaway

My dog and I got permission from the wife to head to the mountains for a quiet weekend. One of my favorite things was the wood burning stove. Just sitting and reading was my main plan and I can’t think of a better place for it. I ended sleeping on the couch in the living room just to listen to it crackling while I fell asleep. We hiked the property, but the weather kept us inside so there is plenty more to explore next time. Easy drive to Crested Butte for an afternoon skiing session, lots of new snow from the day before. The cabin is in great shape, I had everything I needed. I can’t wait to bring my wife next time!

Perfect ski cabin

Perfect Place to Stay

This was an awesome place to stay. The host was always quick to respond and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable! The bed was very comfortable and the cabin is stocked with everything you need. Watching the horses out the window was a bonus. We will definitely stay here again!!

Great getaway

Wonderful cabin and great hosts. Lots of hiking nearby and delightfully quiet at the cabin. The fenced in mini-yard made potty breaks for the pooch a breeze.

Absolute Paradise! Wish I stayed longer.

We’ve been to quite a few VRBOs in various states and provinces and I have to say I think this was the best one we have experienced. The location is perfect (if you are looking for solitude, peace and very dark skies). And the “cabin” is perfectly appointed. We ate out most meals, but the kitchen seemed to have everything you would need. And there’s a BBQ. Our dog loved the beautiful grass in the very secure and pretty backyard (and she instantly liked Brad). We used the patio chairs for star gazing and the patio table for morning coffees (late afternoon drinks were on the west facing front porch). The bed was incredibly comfortable (best bedding I’ve ever experienced) and the bathroom was well stocked. There’s a very well thought out binder with lots of useful resources and information about the area. Brad and Michelle were wonderful hosts. We only got to meet them briefly, but connected immediately. They were busy with their own lives the weekend we were there but were still exceptionally kind and knowledgeable about the area. I only wish we had a couple more days available (or a lifetime) to stay at the ranch and the opportunity to spend some more time with Brad and Michelle - and I’m not someone who usually wants to interact a lot with our hosts. Thank you Brad and Michelle for a wonderful and unforgettable stay. Best of luck in everything your future holds. You’re great people and amazing hosts. Please keep loving natural Colorado like you do.

Slice of heaven

Beautiful cabin with privacy and everything you could need. Brad and Michelle were wonderful host. Kitchen was well stocked, which made cooking a breeze. Truly pet friendly with an amazing back yard patio for humans and pups. We enjoyed our stay so much - a real home away from home. Thanks for the washer and dryer too - it was great to do a load of laundry before leaving. Hope to see y’all again!

Incredible dog-friendly cabin offers solitude and security on a working ranch

I can't imagine a nicer cabin! This place was spotless and had everything, including sweet-smelling pinion firewood. Even the tap water is amazing artesian spring water. If you want solitude and security on a gated working ranch, this is the place! Beautiful patio. Michelle makes sure the cabin has everything you need and Brad knows Colorado like the back of his hand; they are the perfect hosts!

Amazing Cabin

A Little Piece of Heaven in Gunnison

Everything was wonderful! Very clean, private, great secure, fenced yard for the dog. Michelle and Brad are great and are very accessible if you need anything. Brad and Michelle put a lot of thought and effort into the cabin. We definitely will stay again the next time we are in Gunnison.

About the host

Hosted by Brad and Michelle Phelps

Brad is a 4th generation Gunnison rancher- the last of a dying breed. His Father started ranching in Parlin in the 1950's and part of the ranch is still owned by Brad today. We run yearling cattle and sell grass hay. Lots of history here on the ranch, and some of Brad's family items are in the local Gunnison Pioneer Museum today!
