Old World Elegant Guest House

Charming traditional adobe casita, in a gated compound, located in a historic, upper eastside, quiet neighborhood with off street parking. This is a new home built in 2008, authentic adobe construction in old style with all the modern conveniences. It consists of a large open living/dining/kitchen room, one large bedroom and one full bathroom. There are viga beams throughout and the walls are finished in diamond plaster. Various skylights allow natural light into the living spaces.

Master bedroom has Santa Fe style King bed, Teak hardwood, floors, with large walk-in closet and ceiling fan. Dresser and shelved cabinet afford ample storage space. Decor is persian carpets, antique furniture and original art.

Open living/dining/kitchen area has diamond plaster, vaulted ceilings with exposed vigas and ceiling fan. The saltillo tile floors include radiant heat. A working wood kiva fireplace is in the corner of living room. Furnishings are southwest style with leather sofa, original art and artifacts, Persian rugs, cable TV with movie channels and Bose stereo system. Futon pulls out to accommodate two additional guests. A large oak desk is available to use the high speed internet.

Custom African mahogany cabinetry and marble counter tops accent the kitchen which has high end appliances and is fully furnished with cooking equipment and tableware. A large Mesquite dining table with leather chairs seats 6-8 easily.

A private brick covered portal and courtyard enjoy the morning sun and faces a gate with direct access to Dorothy Stewart and Dale Ball hiking trails. Canyon road, galleries, restaurants, coffee shop, the Tea House, Patrick Smith park, Santa Fe river and shops are all in walking distance. We are very close to St John's College.

Both the bedroom and the main room have air conditioning.
There is one parking spot under a carport.

Please note: although we are happy to welcome mature dogs, we are unable to have puppies or cats as guests.
Also, since we only rent by the month (30 days minimum), the rates you are quoted are already based on longer term rental times for the summer. There will be a slight discount for fall or spring.

The good life in old Santa Fe.

Nancy's property is a delightfully furnished and decorated casita with everything one needs. It is in a quiet, historic part of town, away from the bustle but just minutes away from downtown with two parks within walking distance. Nancy takes care to make sure your experience is pleasant.

This is a gated compound containing the owner's home and down a hill are 2 rental units. There is a sign in the bathroom "Fragile Plumbing" and a request that soiled toilet paper be deposited in a container provided and not in the toilet bowl. A walk to the Plaza is approximately 2.2 miles. The owners have both a large and a small dog. On occasion they roam the compound and at first seemed friendly. They never bothered us when we were in our car going in or out. However, one day when I entered the compound on foot the large dog barked furiously and threateningly at me. Luckily the owner appeared immediately and controlled the animal before it could approach me. Scary. If you want to have visitors, be aware of the only-one-parked-car per casita rule. No guest parking is permitted in the compound. The owner suggested a solution outside the compound which simply would not work for our elderly friends with problems. For the first 2 weeks of our stay, the other unit was not occupied and there was available parking in the compound, but the one car rule was enforced. We were unhappy not to be able to invite our friends into the casita. This situation actually ruined our stay in Santa Fe this year.

Like being in the country, but still in town.

We had a wonderful couple of months at Nancy's casita. I loved having the mountains at my doorstep, the parks down the hill and the Santa Fe river close by.The casita is beautiful, comfortable and modern offering everything you need for an extended stay. It was hard to leave!

Charming, private and great location.

We had the pleasure of spending three and a half months at Casita Escondida while looking for a home to purchase. The serenity we felt in this spacious casita made a stressful time more than tolerable. Our charming hostess, Nancy, was friendly and helpful in making us feel right at home. We would absolutely stay there in the future except we did find the home of our dreams.

Charming Casita

This wonderful casita is quiet and comfortable. It comes with a fully stocked kitchen, large bedroom with a new king bed, walk-in closet, and open living room. Your host Nancy is truly a wonderful person. Very helpful if you need it. I can recommend it highly.

Warm and cozy

We spent a snowy 3/12 months in Santa Fe (thanks to El Nino), but the casita was always warm and cozy...thanks to radiant floor heat and double adobe walls. It is a pleasant space! The neighborhood is authentic Santa Fe, and very convenient to city center, museum hill, Canyon Road....quiet too. The kitchen is large and sunny, and the washer/dryer is very new and large. Nancy is available but respectful of the tenants' privacy. Her dogs are most welcoming and fun to have around.

Experience the real feeling of Southwestern Adobe living in this spacious, beautifully appointed casita within walking distance of Canyon Road art galleries and El Farrol restaurant. This gated compound is private and secure. We enjoyed leisurely strolls into town for the Fourth of July festivities and Indian Market. Nancy, the owner/operator of the estate, is on-site. She is friendly, helpful and informative. She is there if you need her, but respects your privacy. Santa Fe has year round cultural events which are easily accessible from Nancy's casitas. We highly recommend a stay or return stay.

Charming, comfortable home in perfect location

We spent 4 1/2 months living in this lovely casita during the fall/winter of 2014-15. The location was ideal for us. Access to the Dale Ball trail system is at the back gate of the compound, and we hiked the Dorothy Stewart trail almost daily. Canyon Road is a short walk from the front gate, and the Plaza was only half an hour's walk away. We rarely used our car! The casita is in a compound that consists of the owner's house at the top of the driveway, a duplex vacation rental half-way down, and then this casita, tucked away at the bottom of the driveway. It is very quiet. No road noise at all. All you hear in the morning are the birds. And it has a very private feeling. On warm mornings we sat outside and drank our coffee on the portal in front of the house and felt as though we had the place to ourselves. It was delightful. Inside, the casita is comfortable and very completely furnished with everything you need for your stay. There are special touches - fossils embedded here and there in the plaster walls, decorative tile in the bathroom, nichos, the fireplace. The decor is in the traditional northern New Mexican style, with all its warmth and charm. The open floor plan makes the casuist feel spacious, and the in-floor heating kept us warm even on the coldest nights. The mattress was very comfortable, the water pressure good for showers, and there was plenty of hot water for soaks in the tub. We love to cook and used the well laid out and well-equipped kitchen to prepare delightful meals. The big fridge and large pantry cupboard allowed us to store plenty of food supplies. The huge beautiful solid wood dining table accommodated gatherings with our Santa Fe family and friends. The casita has lots of storage space - the walk-in closet in the bedroom is like its own little room! - and so the living spaces stay uncluttered with your personal belongings. The owner truly wants to make your stay pleasant and comfortable, and is very responsive to guests' requests. Her two friendly dogs don't intrude on guests at all, and are very sweet to greet when you walk into the compound. This casita offered the best of Santa Fe for us - a pleasant and comfortable interior environment set in a location that offered access to hiking, cultural activities and venues, and coffee shops, bookstores, and restaurants. We couldn't recommend it more highly for your Santa Fe stay.

Feels like home

Our 2nd year at the casita. Loved it. A month just doesn't seem long enough. Had many chats with owners Peter & Nancy. Great people. My husband loves the kitchen, lot of prep space, and a gas stove! Good start for a bike ride down Canyon Road and into the Plaza. The casita is private and quiet. important for a relaxing stay in a busy town like Santa Fe. We have our booking for next year already, and probably will do for many year to come. We have been coming to Santa Fe for over 20 years. We really love this place.............so should you.!!!!

Great temporary home in Santa Fe!

This rental is spacious and modern, conveniently located to both Dale Ball trails and to town (the latter is a longish walk, but doable and easily biked). We liked the combination of newly built but in the traditional Santa Fe style; as well as feeling close in yet having a bit of country! We enjoyed the owner's dogs and especially her great hospitality. She brought fresh apricots, made sure we had easy access to a grill when I mentioned it, and did everything possible to assure a wonderful stay. We'll definitely be back and I hope my good words don't mean there won't be room at the inn!!

Great place

My husband and I stayed at the casita last May and I stayed there the previous October. The place is a wonderfully quiet, well appointed, comfortable place. We needed to relax in a place with lots of privacy, close to but not in the middle of town and this was just perfect for us. It has a wonderful kitchen and bathroom and there are lots of details that make it special. Loved the open plan kitchen, dining and living room. Great tile radiant floors. Lots of closet space. We loved being able to walk out the door and go for a hike in the surrounding hills. The owners were very kind and accomodating, wish we had more time to get to know them better. Great place to say in Santa Fe! We'll be back.

Wonderful Santa Fe Hideaway

I have just spent three glorious weeks at this casita. The hosts are lovely and considerate; they genuinely cared that I was enjoying my stay. There were many unexpected generosities. Thank you for these. The casita itself is as beautiful, authentic and unpretentious as the photos show, with great care given to quality, detail and comfort. Besides the fully equipped kitchen and comfy bed, the media taken care of, the adobe stayed nice and cool this summer. I happily spent many days here in privacy. I also loved hiking the trail steps away, walking to the galleries, picking fresh apricots. It was so nice to have hosts who love and respect their town, and whose enthusiasm for the area is contagious. They know all the "must-sees." I felt extremely safe and looked after during my stay. I highly recommend. Summer or winter, if you have me, I will be back!

The Perfect Hideaway

My husband and I spent a month at this delightful casita. It has everything you could want. It is secluded, private and very quiet, yet it is in walking distance to Canyon Road & the Plaza. It is close to hiking trails and the Audubon Nature Park. The kitchen is a cook delight, with lots of prep and storage space. Everything about this casita is charming, including it's owners. The area is also great for riding your bike. We have already booked for next year.

Exceptional value and experience

I stayed here from mid-June through mid-August, 2011 and wished I could have stayed longer. Everything about the casita and property was perfect! The casita was beautifully, yet comfortably, furnished, and everything that could be needed was there. The owners, Nancy and Peter, also live on the property and were a delight. I feel like I made two very dear friends during my stay there. They were friendly yet respectful of my privacy; open to socializing, but never intrusive or pushy, and helpful about goings on in Santa Fe. I think these reviews are most helpful in pointing out, also, the negative (no matter how slight) aspects of the experience. However, I really have nothing negative to say about the casita, the owners, or any aspect of the rental or living experience. It was perfect!

It doesn't get any better than this!

"Old World Elegant Guest House" was the first time I'd used VRBO and I have to say I was a little nervous. It's always difficult from a few pictures to get the feel for a place but I took a chance and made the booking. And it was one of the best holiday decisions I've ever made! From the moment I walked in the door it felt like home. Nancy has spent considerable time and effort ensuring everything is just so. From stocking the fridge with a few items to make breakfast the next day easy. To having maps and recommendations on what to do in the area. The deco is prefect and truly Nancy can't do enough to help you. I spent almost a month in the guest house and not only enjoyed every moment but came away with two new friends (in Nancy and her husband Peter). Santa Fe is a great place to visit and the guest house provides a prefect base - particualry for exploring the huge number of art galleries on Canyon Road. I'd have no doubt in recommend this place to my mother, my brother, my boss or my best friend and her husband. Or perhaps I won't recommend it to everyone or next time I visit it will be full! Seriously - I live in Thailand and usually never visit the same holiday place twice - but I'm already thinking of an excuse to get back to the States and visit Nancy and Peter again. If you’re planning to visit Santa Fe – there can be no better place than "Old World Elegant Guest House".
