About this property

Incredible water views!

Close to everything, a million miles away.......

Down the two-track driveway, past the view of the nearest neighbors, our three-bedroom cottage awaits. Rest easy on the patio, with its view of the two-acre lake or cross the adjacent foot bridge to the island. Fish for bass and bream, stroll the walking path, paddle around and enjoy the wildlife, or just relax far from the madding crowd.

This slice of paradise sits on 12 acres; our home is across the lake, out of sight and out of mind.

A true cottage i.e. a small, simple, basic quality house, on a lake. Recently updated with new exterior doors, interior paint, light fixtures and all new, good quality, bed frames, mattresses and linens. Very clean, 1,056 sf foot double section manufactured home constructed in 1995 with large concrete patio at the edge of a private, naturally spring fed, small lake with island. Split floorplan, primary bedroom & bath with shower on one side and 2 bedrooms & bath with tub/shower combo on the other.

Our 12-acre site is comprised of 3 homesites. We have recently listed our RV as a short-term rental in addition to the cottage on the vacant site that has a separate power hookup & private septic but shares a water well with the cottage. All of the sites are secluded and none of the homesites are visible to each other, or any other home for that matter :)

Twisted Pine borders several thousand acres of undeveloped lands. It's an animal and nature lover's paradise and home to so many of the amazing flora & fauna native to the region. The cottage is nestled in trees such as Magnolia, Cypress, Pine, Oak, Catawba, and Hickory. It's too numerous to name all the wildlife that we've seen but a short list includes armadillo's, opossums, squirrels, raccoons, Cooter and Florida softshell turtles that make the place their permanent home in addition to the abundance of critters we've seen passing through including bobcat, gray fox, black bear, alligators and otters.

Birding at Twisted Pine is INCREDIBLE! Birds attracted to woods, water and meadow can be viewed. A partial list includes owl, hawk, eagle, kite, vulture, egret, anhinga, great blue heron, goose, turkey, wild ducks -including wood ducks, cardinal, bluebird, titmice, jay, chickadee, wren, dove, woodpecker, finch, robin, crow, sparrow, grackle, mockingbird, oriole, painted bunting, hummingbird, towhee....... The Great Horned Owl & Barred Owl calls are unforgettable, and the owls can best be seen at dawn or dusk/early night.

We try to preserve the natural biodiversity of the site overall. We do mow the path around the lake and the meadow a few times a year and we have aerators in the lake to increase oxygen levels and improve the water quality. While we have no structural flood plain issues and we do have a large open meadow between the homesites that slopes down to the lake, please keep in mind we don't have groomed lawns. During times of high precipitation, the lake level can rise, the canal can fill, the access to the bridge may have standing water in front of it and there may be a few areas on the driveway with short-term standing water. The driveway has recently been rebuilt, is in very good condition and has a solid base with no mud so a 2-wheel drive vehicle can easily drive through any short-term standing water on the driveway.

We keep Italian honeybees, domestic ducks and chickens and have various fruit and nut producing trees and shrubs including Meyer lemons, blueberries, mulberries and a very small vineyard as well as vegetable and herb gardens. Our domestic fowl are penned for their safety and located on the other side of the lake.

We enjoy sharing our seasonal bounty and fresh eggs, homemade snacks featuring homegrown or seasonal ingredients will frequently be awaiting your arrival in addition to the staples we keep stocked including premium hot beverages, granola bars, toaster pastries, oatmeal, popcorn etc.

A JOYFUL Experience We Felt APPRECIATED

A cottage that beckons you to come in, make yourself at home, & RELAX. My high-school foreign exchange students 2 girls (N. Macedonia & Kyrgyzstan) & 2 boys (Taiwan & Kazakhstan), the host father of the girl from Kyrgyzstan, & I were in Tallahassee to visit the Capitol & see the legislature in session. Anxious to get inside, the students streamed back out, exclaiming how beautiful & nice the house is inside "How did you find it!?" Phenomenal, homemade, healthy bars & lovely, handwritten words on Ann's notecard greeted us!Barely settled, I saw the father & Taiwanese boy at the patio door, the father holding up a bass still on the hook & pole, amazed he'd caught it on his first cast! They released the fish & after another cast, the father started teaching the boy how to fish. Living in Taipei City, surrounded by concrete & tall, crowded buildings, it was his first exposure to fishing. He can never see the stars at night due to all the buildings & ambient lighting. Now, here he was standing at the edge of 'Walden Pond' thrilled with all the nature & open sky. The boy from Kazakhstan delighted in all the greenery & the beauty of the azaleas. Later, the father sat on the patio playing his guitar. Both girls got VERY comfortable inside! Finally, we all played cards from the HUGE supply of games (plus some late TV). Food galore & even at 80, I've never lived in or seen a home so TOTALLY stocked to meet every imaginable need. A home tailored for comfort & gratitude!!

Amazing nature stay!

Cute and cozy cabin nestled in the most serene setting imaginable! Beautiful pond views and great opportunities to view wildlife on the property and nearby trails, too. Ann's home was spotless and had every amenity we could possibly need (and then some)! She was responsive and check in/ check out instructions were easy and clear. What a great spot for a little R&R!

Recover for all things

We had an event in Tallahassee so we stayed clos by so we wouldn't have to commute from 2hrs away. This place was perfect for my family's needs. Close to where we needed to be but remote enough that after a stressful event we were able to physically and emotionally recover. Tranquil and refreshing.

Great Thanksgiving Get Away!

This house was perfect for my family of five! We were even able to use the kitchen to prepare food for the family Thanksgiving get together meal. My kids went canoeing and kayaking. The family was able to go fishing. And my youngest enjoyed feeding the kitty! This was a great getaway for a much-needed family vacation. Thank you!

A Slice of Heaven in Tallahassee

Our stay at Ann's VRBO was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with the warmest hospitality and a delightful homemade caramel apple cake that made my son's 21st birthday celebration extra special. Ann truly knows how to make her guests feel at home! The fridge was stocked with a dozen fresh mixed duck and chicken eggs, butter, mustard, ketchup, mayo, Tabasco sauce, maple syrup, and coffee creamer. There was even a filtered water container. The pantry was filled with an impressive variety of spices and a large three-level basket overflowing with snacks and candies. The house itself was immaculate and beautifully furnished. One of Ann's thoughtful house rules was to leave your shoes by the door, which helped maintain the pristine condition of the home. We were also charmed by Kitty, the resident cat, who loved to hang around the back door. Kitty had a daily visitor, a calico cat from next door, and it was amusing to watch them seemingly gossip about the neighborhood dogs, chickens, and ducks. We even gave them some cat treats! Our friends enjoyed exploring the large pond on the property, while we took advantage of the gas grill to cook up some delicious steaks and hotdogs. The beds were perfectly soft, ensuring a good night's sleep for everyone. One standout feature of Ann's house is how incredibly well-stocked it is. From toothpaste and laundry soap to hand lotion and more, if you forgot it at home

I moved from Wyoming to Tallahassee in 2017, have 2 daughters and a granddaughter. Allen's a southern native, raised in Alabama & been in FL for over 20 years. He's a father to 3 sons, all living in the Tallahassee area. Allen's an attorney, I'm a real estate appraiser. When we aren't at our day jobs, we love being outside at home. In his downtime you may catch Allen reading in the hammock next to the lake. In addition to cooking, quilting, and puttering in the garden I'm an avid reader too. Our Airbnb is stocked with a wide variety of books, puzzles & board games for you to enjoy during your stay.
