About this property

Top 1% Airbnb! Open air cabin, sweeping views at low elevation, in the Smokies!

We are a working Mangalitsa farm on 95 acres in the Smoky Mountains of NC. Located on a half mile of river and less than a mile off of I 40. It is remarkable to be so accessible and yet feel so remote. Quiet and safe, our farm is a true marvel! 17* N enjoys its own private setting on a mountain pasture hillside. Oriented toward the river and other farms the scenery is endlessly changing with the sights and sounds of rushing water and birds. The cabin boasts a king sized bed with 680 Egyptian cotton sheets, double comforter and four king pillows. The mood is set with a wall hanging electric fireplace with heater option and electric remote controlled candles. Every light both inside and outside of the cabin may turned off and most can be dimmed to the desired setting. AC and heat keep you comfortable. Additionally there is a kitchenette with a convection toaster oven, double burner portable stove top, freezer and refrigerator drawers as well as a Keurig coffee machine with complimentary coffee pods. The large pea gravel patio is equipped with a Weber propane BBQ with side burner, two Adirondack chairs flanking a propane firepit and two chaise sun chairs complete with pillows and beach towels. The cabin is instantly transformed into an open-air experience upon raising the 10' wide glass garage door! Step out onto the large wooden deck outfitted with a giant U shaped sofa ensemble and an in-deck hammock with pillows perfect for napping and stargazing!

I am a seven generations Floridian. Almost 100 years ago my great grandfather purchased a home here in the Smoky Mountains. During a visit in 2015 my husband and I bought a farm when we decided to be our own boss. It has been incredible fun to work the land, fish for trout in our own 1/2 mile of river and meet so many wonderful farm visitors!

Why they chose this property

Our farm is one of the largest low elevation tracts left in Haywood County, NC. It is accessible yet incredibly peaceful. We enjoy a half mile of trout fishing on the NE side of our farm as well as the sweeping views of other farms. We are 10 minutes from Waynesville and 25 minutes from Asheville.

What makes this property unique

We raise the wooly Mangalitsa pig from Hungary and are considered to be one of the most important stewards of the breed in the US. Our farm is clean and manicured, walkable and interesting with forests, creeks and a half mile of trout river. We have egg laying hens, horses, goats and donkeys. It is just so much fun!
