Our 2 day stay

Our grandchildren were thrilled with our stay. They thought the house was "so cool!" They were so excited when they 'discovered' the basement as well, because we looked through the house initially to decide who was sleeping where so I'd forgotten about the basement. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed playing some of the records from back in 'our day.' We also enjoyed somores at the fire pit. Thank you for a memorable time!!

What a Bootiful Home. We had a Heel of a time!

Everything about the home was so well thought out. A lot of care & attention went into decorating the home as well as the owners cared about our stay. They ensured we had everything we needed. They were great at communication. They made us feel like we mattered. The home is magical. It allowed for us to create some very special memories. Not only that, they do an excellent job giving the history of the home & do so in a way that it is exciting and fun to learn about. And it is a history most of us never knew before. Our stay was a sock-cress and I would highly recommend staying here. It is more than worth it!

Even better than I imagined!

I've been driving by The Shoe for over 40 years and finally took the opportunity to spend a weekend there with life-long friends. It.Was.Fantastic!!!! It's cozy, cool, creative, and full of history! We were thankful for rainy weather because we did not want to leave! Thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU to the owners and host for preserving this iconic York County site and for the perfect place to have a mini-vacay with my girls!

Wonderful place to stay

This home was very unique and filled with charm! We loved learning the history of Haines Shoes and the history of the Shoe House. We found the home to have all the comforts of home away from home. The home is decorated beautifully, very clean, the beds are comfortable, and the family room is wonderful for relaxing in the evening. We did not have time for the hot tub and fire pit but hope to the next time we visit.

Delight

It was a delight to stay in the Shoe which I saw for so many years on the way to visit my extended family in Reading, PA from Baltimore. Enjoyed the design of the shoe house and there was something quaint about the rooms that made them comforting. The hot tub and fire pit were nice additions. The host was very responsive. It was a delight!

Quite an Unusual Stay

Not many people get to sleep in an actual shoe. Staying at the Haines Shoe House will be something I will talk about for a long time. It was very clean and so nostalgic. I loved the way it was decorated and the details such as a record player and the rotary phone reminded me of my childhood. It sits on a nice property also with places to relax outside in warm weather.

Best Bridal Party

We used this house for some of a bridal party at Stone Mill Inn. It was the perfect distance and was an extra fun element to our big life event. The hosts communicated immaculately anytime that we had a question or issue. Would totally recommend for other bridal parties or even just friends! #theshoehouse

These "Old" Ladies Lived in a Shoe and Loved it!

If you love quirky, fun experiences this is definitely a great place to spend a few days! I couldn't stop giggling as soon as I rounded the curve in the road and got my first in person look at The Shoe House, and we all found the inside of the house to be just as delightful. It was the perfect place for three friends to slow down from normal life for a few days and celebrate a birthday together. The owners were communicative and friendly, which made the experience even more pleasant. I'm so glad we got to be "Old Ladies Who Live in a Shoe" for a few days!

exceeded every expectation! So FUN & Unique

The Shoe House was beyond perfect! We decided to book a short vacation this spring break and my boys couldn't have been more excited when we pulled up and they saw where we were staying. The house is spacious and laid out so efficiently. Every nook of the house is used and the hosts really provided anything you could possibly need. The family enjoyed the board games provided, the foosball table, the record player, the HOT TUB, the history and all the memorabilia in the basement. The house is near the highway but you cant hear it at all, they even left sound machines if needed (we didn't need them but it was so wisely thought out for renters possible needs). The house is in a nice, quiet field and the boys enjoyed running around and even playing football and ladder ball provided. I went to school for design and this was truly spectacular to experience. I would recommend this rental to anyone! Thank you for creating a really awesome rental that other can enjoy. Kudos!

Shoe house

Growing up in the area I drove past the Shoe house my whole life. Getting to stay there fulfilled my childhood dream. I got to share it with my parents and my 11 yr old niece. We had a fun time. I would definitely recommend staying there.

Another Birthday Wish Comes True!

I had the best time! Last year I stayed at the Shoe House (a lifetime desire - since I was around 3) as a birthday present to myself and it was perfect! This year, with warmer weather, it was even better! I was able to use the hot tub both nights for almost an hour without freezing when I got out! Nice little stools were added to the kitchen area - these were much easier to use at the table then last year when I squeezed around to the bench. The decor was changed - not as many shoes as last year, but there was more space in the hallways because a display case was moved. It just is the neatest place to stay! Can't wait to return next year for my 70th birthday!

Unique and private

The home is in fenced in lot with no close neighbors. It was nice and clean inside. Much more room than I thought there would be. They had some nice extras like a fan, shampoo, and some cooking ingredients. The entire home makes for a great conversation piece. The owners are friendly and communicate well. No contact was needed by either side. Glad they saved this place and you can see the work that went into preserving the building.

We are local residents who love the history and charm of the Shoe House!

Why they chose this property

This property has a long history and love from the community. The Shoe House was built in 1949 by a Shoe Store Retailer. He was very generous and was always giving to the local community. The builder, Mahlon Haines would raffle off stays in the Shoe House to newlyweds and couples on their Anniversary. The Shoe House was donated to his employees before he died, and the legacy of giving to the community lives on is welcoming guests to the Shoe House!

What makes this property unique

Part of the Unique aspect of the Shoe is the legacy that is embodies. Hosting people to enjoy the fun and unique features of the Shoe House was why it was built in the 1950's. That long standing legacy makes the Shoe House unique among stays, as well as the many amazing and fun features the Shoe Shines with!
