What an amazing place!
Mamie’s Hideaway was everything we were looking for - a cabin secluded enough that we felt like we were the only people in the world while being close enough to a few local spots that we could grab something to eat or supplies.
The cabin itself is wonderful - Mark and Elena have thought of everything and with a few groceries we were able to just relax for a few days. It is stocked with all the cooking essentials from pots and pans to herbs, spices and sauces which made cooking so easy as we didn’t have to bring absolutely everything and the grill out the back was such a lovely addition!
As a tip, buy your groceries before you come down from Fairbanks for more variety but we also found the Salcha store (about a ten minute drive from the cabin) had anything extra we needed and very reasonably priced.
The Salchaket Roadhouse (sign posted as the post office) is only two minutes down the road and is a cute family run restaurant - we can thoroughly recommend the pizza!
We were there to relax and continue our never ending search for the northern lights. The front of the cabin faces directly north so there is no need to leave the warmth to watch the aurora dance its way across the sky from either the comfy lounge area or from the master bedroom. The verandah out the front was also fantastic if you felt like rugging up and taking in the experience from outside. The board games and basket of cozy blankets were such a lovely extra touch😊
So much more to say but no space! 10 out of 10!
