This was our fifth year visiting the area and our first year staying at this home. We loved the location: water views and walkability to town. The downstairs is spacious and well-laid out, and the kitchen is stunning. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife that visited the property—several families of geese complete with goslings and a family of deer. Unfortunately, we had to cut our trip short due to a family emergency, and Cheryl was very understanding. Hopefully, we can return in the future.
This house is amazing. It is right by the wharf where you can fish or watch the lobster fisherman right from your porch. It has its own little private beach. The house is beautiful and very clean. The location is perfect because you can walk up to the main street to the shops and restaurants. You can take the ferry over to bar harbor for the day which is very close by. We got to meet the owner who also lives beside you and takes care of the amazing garden in front of the house. She is a complete delight. We will definitely be back to this rental.
This was our first trip to Maine. We were so lucky to have rented Captain Guptill’s House! It is a true reflection of Maine’s coastal architecture, with cedar shake exterior, peaked gables and front porch. The beautiful, clean and well maintained interior has been updated to include many modern amenities without losing the coziness of the original aesthetics.
The house has a private beach and sits on Frenchman Bay, providing spectacular views of the waterfront and beyond, and the activity of the lobster boats at the wharf. There is also an abundance of wildlife roaming the property.
The location allows you to reach downtown Winter Harbor village with a short walk, and other villages in the area by car in a few minutes. Traveling to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park is an easy drive of less than an hour. The seafood of the restaurants near the house and anywhere, really, from there to Bar Harbor is fantastic!
We hope to return someday!
