About this property

Nambe Country Retreat - near Pueblos, Abiquiu and Santa Fe

Sweet adobe casita along the high road to Taos is close to Santa Fe, Tesuque, the opera and is convenient to the beauty and charms of Northern New Mexico. The perfect haven for when you want to explore Georgia O’Keefe country, the ancient pueblos, historic Spanish villages, Taos, Los Alamos, Jemez, Puye Cliffs and Bandelier National Monument. Great location for nature lovers as well, as we are within easy distance of hiking, biking, skiing/boarding, snowshoeing, rock climbing, river rafting, ballooning, fishing, bird watching and more! In fact, you can hike or bike right out of the front door.

Located approximately 17 miles north of Santa Fe plaza near the Nambé Church, this guest house to a private residence has its own entrance, a walled patio and covered portal. From the outdoor areas, enjoy dramatic sunset views over a nearby mesa and the Jemez Mountains beyond and later study the stunning nighttime skies. Additional outdoor areas include a picnic area under an old apricot tree and a seating area along the Acequia del Caño. There are two off-street parking spaces.

The casita has vigas and saltillo tile floors throughout and is decorated in Santa Fe country style with antiques, original art, tribal rugs, and quilts. The main living area has a seating nook with two bancos, a dining area, wood burning kiva fireplace and full kitchen. There is a separate bedroom, bath with tub and shower and a laundry area. The bedroom has a queen sized “Doctor’s Choice” bed and the two bancos can be comfortably converted to twin beds to accommodate up to 3 people. 100% cotton linens and fluffy towels are provided. The kitchen is stocked for basic cooking and has a microwave, coffee maker, electric tea pot, blender and attractive china and serving ware for six.

We provide complimentary tea and coffee. During the season, we will be happy to share the bounty from our no-chemical kitchen garden with you.

This is a comfortable and delightful retreat for the daytime explorer. It is also a perfect writer’s retreat or getaway for those special romantic occasions – honeymoons, anniversaries or birthdays. Light concierge services are available – let us help you plan the perfect vacation, including those special touches that will make it so memorable!

Please note: The Casita has a DVD player but not television. Also, this is a smoke free facility. Casita is generally well stocked but please feel free to ask if there is something special you need.

The kind of place you don't want to leave!
We could not have been more pleased. The Casita style was beautifully done and very well equipped. I would have loved warmer weather to enjoy the sunny and plant filled patio. But we did have a beautiful fire in the fireplace! Our host was most welcoming and very helpful for touring. We were happy to leave the city (20 minutes) to enjoy our homey relaxed location. A little hard to find...make sure to study pre visit papers. I hope we can return on another visit.

Gorgeous retreat
My husband and I had the best vacation of our lives in Julia’s Casita. The casita is well appointed and just far enough away from the city to feel away and also close enough to visit important sites and get supplies. Julia was exceedingly generous as a host.

Lovely casita!
This clean and spacious casita provided everything we needed for a home base during our stay in Santa Fe. We enjoyed dinner by the fire every night and slept soundly in the quiet and private setting. Every window either looks out on nature or a private, enclosed patio and it felt very secluded. The casita is thoughtfully appointed and we were so comfortable our only regret was not getting to spend more time there!

Nice summer stay at the Casita
We spent around two months staying at Julia’s Casita during our summer visit to the lab. The Casita was spacious and well-stocked. It has a big kitchen with everything we needed, which was definitely helpful since we cooked pretty often. The location was nice, close to the lab, and it’s also close to Santa Fe, which has more selection of grocery stores. Julia always responded quickly, and she really cared about our stay and made sure everything was good. We had been enjoyed the interaction with her and her puppy dog, and we would highly recommend the place.

Excellent lodging, hospitality and setting
I just spent a month at Julia's Nambe Country Retreat and recommend it in the highest possible terms both as a base for someone working in the area (I was doing work in multiple Pueblos of northern New Mexico) and for a small-family vacation (my wife and daughter joined me for a week over Thanksgiving). The casita offers peace and quiet and all the comforts one could wish for. Julia, who lives in the main house right next door, is a superb, friendly and attentive yet non-intrusive hostess. The views from the casita, the patio and the grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed walks around the immediate area and easy access to Santa Fe, Taos (via the breathtakingly scenic High Road), Los Alamos and the Jemez Mountains. Among places we came to enjoy within a 10-minute drive are the Poeh Cultural Center, three good food options (the Sopaipilla Factory, El Parasol, and especially the hot lunch items in the deli at the Pojoaque Supermarket), the Pojoaque Pueblo Library (which has a phenomenal DVD collection) and -- best of all -- the Pojoaque Pueblo Wellness Center (excellent cardio and weight rooms, gym, swimming pool, racquetball courts and more). We were really happy to have such a well-equipped, low-cost and welcoming workout place so close, especially given our fondness for New Mexican food. If you are looking for top-notch New Mexican food, we would recommend: Rancho de Chimayo (in Chimayo, less than 15 minutes away); El Paragua (Espanola); Tomasita's, the Pantry and La Choza (Santa Fe); and El Charritos and Tia Betty Blue's (Albuquerque).

Peaceful and comfortable
We stayed for 9 weeks during the summer and found the casita to be comfortable, nicely furnished and stocked, and very peaceful. Julia was a great host who was not intrusive but was always friendly, stopping by to check on us or assuring us she would look out for the casita when we went away for the weekend. We enjoyed the walled-in patio with beautiful potted plants and great views of the sunset, and having a full-size kitchen and laundry in a small place like this was a huge plus. This is a great place either for a short visit or a prolonged stay. PS: to clarify on one of the few negative comments left by a previous reviewer, there is a television set, but there is no cable or TV service. We were easily able to hook up a device to stream content to the television set. Julia was kind enough to offer to buy such device for us if we did not bring our own.

Nambe casita
We enjoyed our stay at Nambe casita very much! It was as charming as the pictures online, well stocked and the bed very comfortable. The location was perfect. We were centrally located to Sante fe, Taos, Jemez national forest and Bandelier national monument. A month not even long enough to do everything. Julia was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable about the area. We would highly recommend this property and plan to visit again

Perfect get away for exploring this area of NM
Julia Takahashi's attention to detail and consideration for her guests is apparent in every part o the casita. It was clean and well stocked with good quality equipment and dishes. It was pretty and had absolutely everything you might want. I would stay here if I got to come back. There were 3 of us in the casita and it was very comfortable for all of us.

This is the place to be!
This Nambe retreat casita has it all...mountain views, vigas, kiva fireplace, a private patio with fire pit for star gazing. The kitchen is fully equipped and the bed is super comfortable. Julia is an extremely gracious, attentive host and a wealth of knowledge about the Santa Fe/Nambe areas. We loved her. Thank you, Julia, for a five star experience!

Very disappointing !
We have used Vrbo a number of times in the past and always had satisfactory experiences. This stay was a disappointment . The owner failed to provide the service that was represented in the overview of the property. Example: washer & dryer provided Fact: three days prior to check in date I was advised the washer was not working but would be fixed.. We checked out after a 4 day stay and washer was still not fixed and we were never advised why. There was no tv service , which is something that was never mentioned in the promotion of the property. It was noted that there was no internet service, which was not true but based on the information provided I saw no need to bring my laptop.. By any standards the owner is incompetent and has unacceptable communitation skills. Due to Vrbo's professional reputation , I expect this review to be posted. Kirk Stanzel

Lovely Nambe Casita
I’m not sure what more I can say about Nambe Casita that hasn’t already been said by others who have had the opportunity to stay in this special place. Nambe Casita exceeds every expectation. My partner and I stayed here for a week in May, 2016, and it was a great experience. We liked everything about Nambe Casita. Julia is a wonderful host – friendly, helpful and always concerned to make her guests feel comfortable. The casita is within easy driving distance to Santa Fe and all the city offers and yet it is in a quiet country setting. The casita itself is charming and comfortable, having everything one needs for a relaxing vacation. The courtyard is amazing – beautifully-landscaped, private and with wonderful views. We hated leaving this charming place and hope to return in the future. We have absolutely no hesitation in recommending the Nambe Casita to anyone interested a relaxing place that will refresh the body as well as the spirit.

Rural Retreat
We were looking for something away from Santa Fe and found it with this property. The adobe was clean, neat and met our needs well. Julia Takahashi is a very good host and provided a well appointed residence for us. Fifteen minutes from town, we loved being in the rural setting and yet close to everything we wanted to see. We would recommend this property to anyone who wanted a simple but complete residence. S and T Frank

Charming and cozy.
Our family of 4 stayed at the Casisita over Christmas and had a wonderful time. Julia was a great hostess a d her property is adorable. It is very well stocked and we absolutely loved her taste in breakfast foods and toiletries, she provides her guests with the best. (you'll love her coffee) She decorated the casisita for Christmas and also brought us some delicious New Mexican cookies and some hot cocoa. Nambe is in a great location with plenty to do. Julia suggested some great hiking and sledding spots which we really enjoyed. We only had 3 days to play around town but could have easily filled a week with nearby activities. We hope to return to the Santa Fe area next winter, and will definitely want to stay at the Casasita again.

Nambe' Casita was cozy, charming, well stocked, convenient and private
Our family of 4 had a wonderful week long stay at Nambe' Casita. It was the perfect get-away that allowed us to discover the area of Santa Fe and beyond. The house was a perfect size for us, with a fully stocked kitchen and bathroom, movies, games, books and such a warm, cozy fireplace. Julia was a great hostess. She made sure that we had everything we might need and was a joy to meet - along with her lovely animals. We felt entirely at home here. We look forward to returning in a new season!

Authentic & beautifully appointed New Mexican retreat; great home base for exploration!
A wonderful place from which to explore and appreciate the beauty and culture of northern New Mexico, this casita reflects the loving care of its owner. Julia is a thoughtful and considerate host. When my flight to Albuquerque was delayed 8 hours, I phoned Julia to tell her I'd be arriving after dark. To make sure I'd be able to find her place on a moonless night, she hung a string of electric lights at the entrance of the driveway. She emailed me to ask what I liked for breakfasts, before my arrival. Being able to cook and enjoy a real, leisurely breakfast each morning was a treat. If you're a coffee fan, Julia provides perfectly roasted regular and decaf beans which you freshly grind for a truly delicious cup of java. I also found beautiful, ripe tomatoes at a local roadside stand, which were deliciously complemented by fresh basil from Julia's vegetable garden. It turns out that Nambe is right in the middle of all the sights I wanted to see: Taos, Rio Grande gorge, Espanola, Valle Caldera, Bandelier National Monument, local pueblos, Los Alamos, Santa Fe, SF Opera, and the "santuario" in Chimayo, (just 10 miles away). BTW, make sure you bring your camera. The mountains and sandstone formations of this area are stunning: a geologist's wonderland. It's also an area with some excellent restaurants, well known for authentic New Mexican cuisine. Bottom line: A+! A great place to restore one's soul and convenient place to stay for any period of time. I've already recommended Julia's casita to friends and plan on returning in the future.

Peaceful and beautiful retreat
I came here with my husband and two girls age 6 and 8. The casita was perfect for all of us! It is simple and beautiful and very comfortable. Julia really thought of everything we might need. Having breakfast food here ready for us when we arrived was incredibly useful after driving up in the evening. My girls had to fight over who got which banco! The boncos are these cute cozy corners that double as couches and turn into a comfortable place to sleep at night. The bed in the main bedroom was incredibly comfortable as well. Coming from Baltimore where the trees are dense and tall we loved waking up to the amazing, expansive views just outside the door! The colors are absolutely stunning and constantly changing throughout the day. We got to Santa Fe, Taos, and Ojo Caliente all easy drives from the casita. We loved the simplicity and beauty of being here at the casita. If you are looking for a restful and inspiring place to stay you will be happy here.

Why they chose this property

The Nambe River valley is a lovely, lush and historic area within a quick drive to Santa Fe. People in the area are friendly and helpful and one enjoys the beauty and quiet of living in the country with easy access to the arts, culture, food and activity of Santa Fe.

What makes this property unique

Enjoy morning coffee or an evening drink in the private walled patio. Walk out the front door and take a hike down to the arroyo and the barancas beyond or down to the Nambe River. Enjoy fresh tomatoes and other produce from the garden. If you like pets the three friendly cats and the happy dog will be down for a visit in the courtyard. There are several excellent restaurants nearby as well as a supermarket, drugstore, and gas stations. The owner is happy to provide help with your vacation plans and offers light concierge services. We have also helped set up the casita for special needs guests and locate medical services.

If you don;t want to miss your workout or you would like to get started, my neighbor - Lenny Natural - is a certified personal trainer. Lenny has full gym facilities in a rustic setting a short walk from the Casita.

Massages are also locally available at the Pojoaque Wellness Center, in Espanola or at the Buffalo Thunder Resort. Other pool and gym facilities are located in Pojoaque and Los Alamos.

I have neighbors with tennis courts and equestrian facilities and can make arrangements for you.
