About this property

Classic Hamptons Cottage with Boating and Stunning Water Views

Bayberries is a classic antique on 2.5 acres fronting Georgica Pond. The house was built in 1895 by the owner’s great grandfather. From the wraparound front porch there is a magnificent view across the Pond to the ocean, which is accessible by sailboat (2 provided) or canoe (1 provided) or paddle board (1 provided), and also by car or bike to nearby Georgica Beach (around 5 minutes by car).

In addition to the porch, about half of which is covered, there is a lovely enclosed sun porch. The ground floor also includes a dining room, a large living room, a full kitchen and a laundry room. On the second floor there are four double bedrooms. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom, a full bed in one room and twin beds in the other two. There are en suite bathrooms in two bedrooms, and two other second floor bedrooms share the third bathroom. There are two small attic bedrooms which share the fourth bathroom. All of the bathrooms have showers and tubs.

The East Hampton village center, with beautiful shops and a large movie theater, is also accessible by bike or car (around 10 minutes by car). The area teems with fabulous restaurants.

Historic Home on Perfect Location
This large home, built more than 100 years ago, has "old world" charm with modern amenities as well as a location that can't be beat. The house has comfortable and ample rooms, with everything you could want provided. Sitting on the covered front porch with a book and a drink, or grilling on the back porch, are special experiences. The location of the house, on Georgica Pond (near the properties of Calvin Kline and Steven Speilberg, among others) is unique. After a short walk across the manicured lawn, you can take the provided canoe or sailboat across the pond to the beach and Atlantic ocean. My friends and I loved our stay there--breathing the clean air, hearing the birds, spotting the deer, viewing the pond and ocean, and venturing into East Hampton for shopping, etc. It was the most relaxing and revitalizing vacation I have ever had.

Paradise
Our stay at Jeanne Cassin's elegant house was like being in Paradise--quiet, secluded serenity with extensive lawns surrounded by trees, overlooking a large pond opening onto the ocean, with night-time star-studded skies. Small sailboats and a canoe are at the property's pond shoreline to provide short sailing/paddling to the adjacent ocean and sandy, white beach. A large kitchen, formal dining room, and tables on the wrap-around covered porch overlooking the pond facilitate pleasant eating at the house, and East Hampton village with its many dine-in or take-out restaurants is only a ten-minute drive away. The nearby ocean makes for cool nights for sleeping. There are window breezes and quiet, slow ceiling fans. I have taken vacations all over the world, and nothing matches the unique ambiance of this place in East Hampton.

The best of all
What I love about this place: fantastic view of both the Pond and the Ocean; a yard where little ones and teens and adults can play-- BIG space; an old-fashioned sort of maze in the bushes down on the water; sailing in an enclosed space which feels a lot safer than the ocean, or feels that way; room for a big family or lots of guests; the coolest attic ever; expandability; a feeling of history, not just a big old McMansion with no character; the ability to join the East Hampton jet set or not, as you wish for your kids and yourselves.

Can't get better than this beautiful property.
If you want classic, quintessential, historic 'Village of East Hampton,' then you cannot get any better than this beautiful property...with many amenities. GORGEOUS!

My great grandfather was a New York lawyer who used to go hunting on the Eastern end of Long Island. The story goes that he was hunting around Georgica Pond and shot a goose. It landed on a hill overlooking the pond, and he decided to build his house there. My grandmother and my mother both grew up in the city but summered in East Hampton. My mother married a Virginian, so I grew up in Richmond, but we always spent part of the summer in the house in East Hampton.

The photo is of my daughter and me in my mother's house next door.

In about 1970 my parents built another house on the water right next door to our house. In 1987 my husband and I took over the old house. We lived overseas, and I spent the summers in East Hampton, so my children have also ended up spending childhood summers in this house. There are paths through the 'maze' at the bottom of the hill, and they loved running through the woods to Grandma's house in the early morning.

We love it here. My children, now all in their 20's and 30's, bring their friends down now for long weekends. They'll pack a lunch and take a combination of sailboats, canoe and paddle board to the practically deserted ocean beach at the end of the pond and make a day of it. I have breakfast on the front porch, looking out at my perennial garden and making plans for it. In the evening we sit on the roofless end of the porch, looking up at the stars and out over the pond. It is heaven on earth.

What makes this property unique

Extraordinary view from the front porch. Boating on Georgica Pond. Ocean access without a parking sticker! Star-gazing at night from the front porch. Ocean breezes.
