The house was tucked back in a nice older neighborhood. Great lake location. The next door neighbors were really nice and helpful. It would.be nice for a vacation trip in the warmer weather.
We live in Florida and were wanting something a bit out of the way with a lakeside view. This property certainly fit the bill. The fall scenery changed before our very eyes during the ten days we were there. Just lovely The cottage was extremely clean, well stocked with everything we needed and the property owners were very prompt in responding to any questions we had both before and during our stay. I definitely recommend it anyone wanting a lakeside experience.
We had our two fur babies with us and the home is very dog friendly. The home has all the items and amenities one may need. The location is wonderful on the lake, very quiet and secluded. It is a short drive to Hickory and to other mountain towns for restaurants and shopping. We rented a boat for one day and the lake is awesome for touring. We had a great time. Thank you to our wonderful hosts!
Very comfortable house located in a peaceful cove. Kitchen well stocked with everything you need. We kayaked every morning. Grocery store located within minutes of the house. El Batan restaurant serves excellent Peruvian food and is in the neighborhood. Nice neighbors, too!
We were visiting family in the area and are so pleased to find a place so close to them. They have everything you need in the kitchen, a restaurant down the street at the golf course that was very good, and we also boated over to the sandbar restaurant ( I think I have the name right name), which we all enjoyed. There are several Marinas to rent a boat. They had a great stash of games. Really a home away from home.
This is a lovely home that was ideal for our visit! We had a small scared puppy and this was the first time he was on a trip. He was comfortable and loved running in the fenced yard. They even provided "poopy bags" although we brought our own. Great thinking!!! We used the fire pit and it was perfect! We gathered the dried twigs from around the yard and this worked perfectly. The swing is well placed to sit to view the lake .....which is spectacular.
The kitchen was well appointed and, as my son is a chef, we brought lots of his pans and utensils. We didnt need to use them as there were plenty at the house. Thanks for setting up a great VBRO. We would love to return this Summer for another visit!!!!
Very nice on the lake in quiet cove. Very clean and comfotable. Dock to sit on or tie up your boat. We had kayaks with us...the only note is there are stairs down to house from driveway and then steep walkway to dock.
We really enjoyed our stay over Thanksgiving. We hiked and shopped and relaxed. Just what we needed. The home had everything we needed and more. It was very comfortable.
Beautiful and functional kitchen with lake views from well appointed deck and great room. 15 minutes from LRU with all the comforts of home. The private suite downstairs is a perfect accommodation for adult family members. Thank you for sharing your home with us! Hope to come back soon for another stay.
Nice home in convenient location. It's very clean, but it's worth noting for those who are sensitive, the finished guest space in basement is extremely musty. The kitchen and baths are updated. High quality towels and bedding. Very comfortable. Responsive owners and a pleasant view. Would stay again.
Beautiful view with fenced in area for our dog. House was very clean and had everything we needed. Very easy to get in touch with owner to have questions answered. If you bring your boat you have to back it down the road to the house because there is no turn around but this was explained to us when we inquired. Would definitely stay again!!
We were looking for someplace to relax, kayak, and paddle board with restaurants and shopping not too far. We found that at this get away. The owners were very responsive to all our questions. The house was very clean. The fenced yard made our furbabies very happy that they didn’t have to be on a leash every time they went outside. All in all it was a great getaway.
We had a great time on our week vacation at the lake here! The house was super clean, the dock was easily accessible, and the fenced in yard was great! There were a couple of times I reached out and the owners were easy to get ahold of. Me and my family will definitely go back!
This property is on a quiet cove with lake views, several deck areas, a fire pit and a small dock. 2 marinas and a golf course nearby. Cute house with 2 comfy king beds and everything needed to feel at home. Owners were very responsive. Highly recommend!

About the host

We are long time residents of Hickory, NC. 261 Michaels Gap is now our second home. We recently moved to the coast of North Carolina but wanted to keep a place in Hickory to stay while visiting our grandchildren. We offer our home to you when we are away because it would be a waste to leave such a beautiful place empty. It should be enjoyed.
Why they chose this property
This is a very quiet neighborhood. The only noise is the sound of children playing in the water during the summer and the sound of golfers teeing off from the nearby public golf course.
What makes this property unique
This location on the lake is a well-kept secret. By water, the only way to access the cove is through a no-wake zone. Most recreational boaters turn around at the no-wake zone and don't enter the cove. This cuts the amount of boat traffic tremendously and allows for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. with minimal threat from power boats.
