Beautiful home in Historic Banker's Hill

Hidden away on a quiet cul-de-sac, this 1917 home in Hillcrest/Bankers Hill neighborhood has over 2,000 sq. ft. of living space and offers all of the modern amenities for your stay in San Diego. Balboa Park is 7 blocks away. The home's large and comfortable living room, dining room and charming backyard are perfect spots to recharge after a day of sightseeing. This is not a child friendly home. As our personal residence, there are many family pieces, original art work, and antques. We’ve been renting the home for over 10 years, and the only problems we’ve had are families with children.

The home is beautifully furnished with comfortable furniture and original early California paintings to fit the period of the home. Again, children should use caution and should be supervised. This home is not your typical vacation rental. The home was originally owned by Thekla Heath, a prominent scenic designer and local artist in the 1920's known for hosting artists and actors performing at the local Balboa Park and Downtown theaters.

The kitchen offers a Viking 6 burner range with a griddle (great for pancakes on a lazy day) and two ovens, a super quiet Meile dishwasher, and a wine refrigerator . Don't want to cook? There are some of the best breakfast spots and restaurants in San Diego a short walk or drive from the house.

We purposely left the TV's in the bedrooms so the living room and dining room can be a place the family can gather without TV noise.
Each of the bedrooms has their own TV, and the Master Bedroom and Den have 42' flat screens and DVD players. The Master bath has double sinks and extra large walk-in shower. The guest bathroom has it’s original Orchid colored bathtub! There is a Half bath off of the kitchen. The home has washer, dryer and wifi. The Outdoor patio has a gas BBQ, outdoor table for six with additional outdoor seating. The closest market is Whole Foods but Trader Joe's, Vons, Lazy Acres, Ralph's, wine shops and cheese shops are all close by.

Many of the homes in Banker's Hill are designated as historically significant - check local listing for Garden and Home tours. It's walking distance to Balboa Park and the many museums there. Only 5 minutes to the famous San Diego Zoo, 10 minutes to Sea World, San Diego Convention Center and the Airport but the home is secluded and quiet.

The great restaurants and night life of Hillcrest, Banker's Hill, Little Italy, the Gas Lamp District, Seaport Village and San Diego Convention Center are just 3 to 10 minutes away; not to mention the great shopping at Fashion Valley. Beaches and the bay are also close by, and we're freeway close for trips to nearby La Jolla, Del Mar, Coronado, Legoland and all that San Diego has to offer.

What a beautiful home
This is such a lovely, comfortable place. I’ve stayed here multiple times and it always makes me feel happy and relaxed. Charming, immaculately clean, and stocked with absolutely everything we need for a wonderful vacation. And the neighborhood is packed with great restaurants, grocery stores, and beauty! I love this place.

Great Place to Stay
Everything about this house was great! A nice big kitchen that is well stocked with all you will need, plenty of nice plush towels in the bathrooms, comfortable beds, lots of space and seating in the living room and a nice outdoor patio with plenty of seating as well. There is also a good amount of parking. The house itself is quite charming and Jim has done a lot to make it a great stay. Jim was very reponsive to all communication as well. We'd love to stay here again in the future! Thank you Jim for sharing your lovely home!!

Loved this house! Comfy and centrally located
Jim and Francisco were great hosts. Our flight arrived 7 hours later than scheduled and Jim accommodated our arrival. The house is very cute, roomy and centrally located. Loved the house - perfect place to stay!
We loved staying in this house. The owners were so helpful in answering questions prior to our trip and making suggestions and the check in and out process was so easy. The house is beautifully decorated with all the amenities you could possibly need. Loved the hardwood floors and the tile work in the bathrooms. The beds were comfortable as was the furniture throughout the house. This felt just like home - so comfortable and was convenient to all the places we wanted to go. We used Uber a couple of times for convenience such as going to Petco park for a ball game and to Balboa Park and that worked out wonderfully. The house was clean and well kept up. With the windows open in the evening we caught a nice cool breeze. This is so close to the airport we didn't have to rush when it was time to go. Our only complaint would be that we couldn't have stayed longer! Next time we will! Thanks guys - we SO appreciate you letting us stay in your house.

Love this place!
We stay here once a year and it's always wonderful. Beautiful, comfortable, clean, spacious, with everything you could possibly need (that kitchen!). There's even a great selection of board games that our family always dip into! This is actually one of my favorite places on earth.

Best vacation home ever
We have rented vacation homes for years because we hate staying in noisy hotels. Well, we got the jackpot with this home! We were here for a week long softball tournament. We walked into the house and were just stunned at how beautifully the house was decorated as well as how large it was. The kitchen is stunning, our master was amazing and the teens rooms were perfect. Quiet quiet quiet! By the first night I was trying to convince my husband to contact the owners and do a house trade. Great neighborhood but tucked away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Close to so muhch great shopping and restaurants. Total gem.

The Perfect Choice for our Family Getaway!
Recently our family of 6 stayed at this beautiful home. It was our first visit to San Diego and had no idea which location to pick for our rental. Based on reviews, we selected this home in Banker's Hill. It was less than a 10 min ride from the airport, which was great for us weary travelers to be 'home' and settled in so quickly. The neighborhood was clean and safe and filled with beautiful historic homes! We walked around the block every morning just to admire the homes and all the colorful landscaping. The location is walkable to a myriad of delicious restaurants and shops (Hillcrest). It was also so close to all the activities we planned and rarely necessitated the need to get on the highway. Balboa Park, the zoo, Little Italy, the USS Midway - all within a 10 minute drive. La Jolla, the wineries and Pacific Beach were all within a 30 min drive. We really couldn't have selected a better location. Now for this charming house....loved the wooden floors, chef's kitchen and the comfortable beds were just perfect. In the evenings, we enjoyed the private patio where we ate dinner and admired the gardens, especially the lemon trees and roses! Jim and Francisco were always a phone call away, although we never really need to call them for anything other than to thank them for sharing this lovely home!

we had a great time visiting all of San Diego while using this home as our base.
The home is in a great neighborhood and was perfect for my family of four. It has all of the amenities you need and then some. We had wine and cheese on the back patio every night and made breakfast every morning. It's location is central to the area. We rented bikes and had a car but used the bikes for most every outing. Jim and Francesco were easy to communicate with and are obviously very proud of their home. Thanks guys!! We had a great time!!

Wonderful Place to Stay
We had a marvelous time in SanDiego. The house is in the best location for getting to all of San Diego's attractions and delicious restaurants. From the binder of info we found the Royal Stone, and every morning ended up there! The backyard was cozy and inviting with comfortable chairs for watching all the hummingbird activity and birds, loved the fountain! The house has plenty of room with a great kitchen and cozy fireplace if you need it. Will stay again if ever in the area!

Perfect!
We've rented countless homes in the last 10 to 15 years and as our family pulled away from this one we asked our traditional question . . . so what could have been improved. There wasn't a single thing we could think of. This is a gorgeous, impeccably decorated, comfortable, beautiful home with absolutely everything you need. Beautiful home in perfect location
We recently stayed at this location and were extremely pleased with everything. The home is a remodeled early 1900's house that is tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with a Viking gas range that any chef would appreciate and the backward is truly magical in the evenings. There is no television in the main living area and this permitted us to relax and chat quietly without the constant din of tv noise. We biked everywhere from this location and will certainly return to this home and our beloved San Diego. Jim and Francisco are delightful as well.

Nice, well-equipped house in a very good location.
The location was ideal - quiet neighbourhood close to airport, downtown. Property was old, but very clean and well-maintained. Owners were friendly. Good layout for three couples. 2.5 bathrooms, so two couples had to share one shower (this was O.K. with our group of friends). Not recommended for families with children because of the need for care with the furniture and furnishings. Apart from the above, we would thoroughly recommend this rental.
