The space
The Iconic Gem:
This Iconic Estate home took 3 years to build and was completed in 1980. All of its beautiful trim work was hand-milled on site. Its floating stairs are only a part of what makes this home so special and unique.
It offers 9 bedrooms (12 beds) and 5 full baths, 2 half baths, and sleeps 20.
There is a fully appointed kitchen and bar area, breakfast area, and dining room seating a total of 22-26 people.
The sunken living room overlooks the large deck and the expansive water views. The atrium and the sunroom are nice places to enjoy your morning coffee or a nice glass of wine. There is a fabulous view from almost every room in the house!
One of the 9 bedrooms has a double bed, desk, chair, internet, and half bath for anyone needing a place to work quietly. There are 4 king bedrooms, one with a private bathroom (master) and the others with shared baths. The 3 queen bedrooms with nice window views, 2 having private bathrooms and a "kids" bunk area with 4 single beds.
For inside entertainment enjoy the "cafe-style" antique booths and watch friends shoot pool and enjoy a football game on the tv.
To wind down enjoy a glass of wine or bourbon on the hand-carved bar located in the center of the home.
For the exercise enthusiasts the home also offers an interior racquetball/pickleball court. Within the privacy of the estate, there are paved driveways for walking and running and also walking trails on the water's edge. After a great workout relax and rest in the sauna.

The Pool Pavilion:
This home away from home has 2 large loft-style rooms with two king-sized beds and a futon and a first-floor has 2 semi-private king rooms with a couch. All bedrooms are well separated and semi-private to sound and private visually with room dividers creating a private feel.
There are 2 full bathrooms both located on the first floor. Each bathroom has a separate toilet room, dressing room, shower, and double sink vanities.
The first floor and bedrooms and kitchen are handicap accessible.
NOTE: The first-floor baths are wheelchair accessible but do not have grab bars and would not meet the ADA code. The restrooms are spacious but have an enclosed toilet room and shower room for privacy. Wheelchair accessibility to the toilet and shower require assistance and not ADA compliant.

The upper-level balcony loft overlooks the outdoor pool and expansive first floor and offers fabulous views of the Swift Creek Reservoir.
On the first floor, you will find a large family room with 3 couches, and TV.

The fully stocked kitchen has been recently renovated and offers anything you might need to take to the pool, grill outside, or cook inside allowing small family-style functions and will accommodate your family when renting all three homes.
Dining tables, chairs, plates, and utensils to accommodate everyone in the 3 homes combined.

The customized bar offers bar stools and makes a great serving area when entertaining. The large entertainment area offers ping pong and inside games!

Magical Place for Peak Fall Leaves

This property is truly something special. From the gorgeous grounds, fire pit and walkways, wildlife and woods, to the unique architecture and thoughtful amenities - this place is one of a kind. The craftsmanship is unparalleled and the peace and quiet unmatched. If you have the opportunity to stay here, take it, soak it all in, and enjoy. The host was also wonderful and responsive. Thank you, Alyson, for making sure we had an enjoyable stay.

Stunning

The pictures do not do this property justice. They really don’t accurately show the beauty of it or the size which is just massive. My only regret was not staying longer. If I ever have the opportunity to go back I’d come during the summer to utilize the pool more. The host was also so accommodating to my thousand questions before we even arrived. 10/10

Family Reunion

We rented all 3 houses. There were 33 of us and we never felt like we were on top of each other. The Pool Pavillion was an awesome place to gather for meals and activities. All 3 kitchens were really well stocked. The grounds were very well kept and we enjoyed the scenery and the wildlife on our hikes. We were able to use the pool on the nice weather days, and there were plently of indoor activities on the one day it rained, ping pong, pickle ball, billards, etc. Ample parking at each home. Owner was super responsive to any questions/issues. Highly recommend.

Swift Creek

We were a party of 15 including a college student 3 high schools and a 6 year. Great location for day trips. Hosts responded quickly. Saw lots of deer, squirrels, chipmunks, lizards, toads and even a badger. The kids caught fish off dock. Everyone had a good time roaming the property. I would recommend for a large group especially as there is plenty of room to spread out.

About the host

Host profile image
I am Alyson, the host. Our property is managed by Tina who you will be speaking to directly when arranging your stay on Our 100 acres estate private property in Midlothian.
She has "Super Host" status and she will take excellent care of you from beginning to end of your stay.

My parents are the owners of this unique home. They are Jim and Paulanne Thacker. They raised 3 girls and loved life, friends, and family. They built the home knowing they wanted family and friends to join them for all occasions. We celebrated holidays, birthdays, weddings, and business functions among others with many special people for 40-plus years.

For several years our father drove a car at Southside Speedway in the late model division "just for kicks". Memorabilia can be seen in the pool room and garage. He had many unique hobbies and was certainly a unique man. Our father passed away in 2010.

The home construction took over 3 years and was completed in 1980. Our parents along with their architect enjoyed designing all of the many details of the home. The exterior rooflines and exterior windows inside became a theme throughout.
The pavilion was added 15 years later and was most enjoyed by family and friends alike.

Our father and our sister Lori established a wedding business "Celebrations At The Reservoir" offering multiple beautiful wedding locations in and around the estate property (excluding the main house/Iconic Gem) for 17 years. Due to our sister, Lori's death in 2019 Celebrations terminated the wedding business in 2021. Shortly after Lori's death, our mother Paulanne moved to a smaller home.

My sister Carol and I then took over the management of the estate and properties and were then faced with the upkeep expenses. Knowing how our parents enjoyed sharing their home we decided to prepare the homes for short-term rental and begin to share our blessings in this way.

We hope you all enjoy the beauty that we love and have appreciated for many years.

Why they chose this property

Our parents purchased this Midlothian property thinking they would own horses as our sister Lori loved to ride. They never owned horses but they did have cows on the property and kept them in the field near the Manor house for a while. The Manor house was the only home on the 100 acre property when Jim and Paulanne purchased it. They rented the home as a "long term" rental before it became the office and wedding site of "Celebrations".

Certainly the beauty of the reservoir was also a draw when purchasing the property.
When purchased in the mid 70's, Woolridge Road was a "country" road and the popular neighborhoods Woodlake and Brandermill did not exist. The area has changed considerably through the years. Now, new neighborhoods and shopping is abundant.

What makes this property unique

Our parents loved enjoying walks along the water and after building the home Jim and Paulanne began to create the walkways and gazebos. They hired a man named Gene Morris who was a stone mason. Gene spent years building stone walkways and walls around the property. Gene became a dear friend of our parents as well as did many men and women who worked on the property. Our parents were truly opened arms loving people.
Our mother takes pleasure knowing that you also will also enjoy the walkways and "sitting areas" as mom called them around the property.
