About this property

Beautiful 1 BR Suite with King-sized Bed Located Near Montparnasse Left Bank

The Rue Du Chateau suite is located on the rue du Chateau, about a ten minute walk from the Montparnasse area (a favorite haunt of Hemingway and the 1920’s Lost Generation). This Left Bank location is in a traditional part of Paris with typical butchers, bakers, and cafes, interspersed with more trendy bars and restaurants spreading out from the Montparnasse area. It’s a wonderful area for a very Parisian experience. It’s also in a great location forgetting around Paris from the Pernety metro stop one block away.
The apartment is a one bedroom located on the 2eme etage (our third floor) which also happens to be the top floor of a traditional turn of the century apartment building (the 1900 turn of the century). The apartment has great windows overlooking a green courtyard and the surrounding area.

There’s a comfortable living room with a lit gigogne (the French combination sofa and bed that's extremely comfortable for both) side chairs and a wonderful antique secretaire if you have work to do during your visit to Paris.
The apartment has a luxurious granite dining/bar area for drinks and meals. It's adjacent to the kitchen which was beautifully renovated and includes refrigerator, microwave, stove and oven. The kitchen enjoys its own view over the courtyard making it a delight to use the kitchen and enjoy the fruits of your visits to the neighborhood outdoor markets just five minutes' walk away.
Just off the bedroom, the bathroom has tub with shower and marble topped vanity. The toilet is in its own WC near the front door, in the French. Thus you end up with two bathroom sinks which many guests find very convenient.

The bedroom has a lovely marble fireplace, and a KING-SIZED bed; the mirrored closet offers plenty of storage space for your clothes and bags and is very quiet, being off of the street.
For an additional fee, parking may be able to be arranged half a block from the apartment.
The apartment has beautiful old traditional wood flooring and high ceilings to give it a truly antique Parisian feeling. The rue de Chateau suite allows you to experience Paris like a native.
Amenities: High Speed Internet Access and Free Telephone Local(01) France / United States/ Canada... more than 40 other country
Full kitchen with oven, microwave, toaster...
Living room with Television (100 Channels)
Bedroom with King size bed, large closet.
Bathroom with a bath with shower, separate toilet.
Activities: Paris is at your feet with the Chateau Suite.

Located just a block from the Pernety Metro stop, the Metro will take you to all the tourist spots of Paris, and then home to a quintessential French neighborhood.
We like the 58 bus line from Porte de Vanves to Chatelet. Make a stop at Luxembourg Garden and enjoy the Garden.
Area: This apartment is located in a very French neighborhood, with markets, cafes, butcher, baker, and supermarket within a block or two. Also, you are only about ten minutes' walk from the theaters, restaurants, and nightlife of the Montparnasse area.

Great host! Great location!

Jean Pierre was an excellent host with flexible check in. He provided a lot of helpful information ahead of time and met us at the apartment for check in. He was warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. We stayed in Paris for 8 days, and this was the perfect base, central to everything we needed as well as a metro station. The apartment was comfortable and perfect for a couple.

A quiet retreat in the heart of the city

We were so impressed by the wealth of assistance and information that Jean Pierre provided to us. His apartment was spotless and beds were comfortable. The apartment is quiet and a respite from the busy tourist areas. Only minor detail is new fry pans would be helpful. We enjoyed our stay!

Perfectly Paris!

Staying in this location away from the crowds was perfect for us. The neighborhood has a wonderful feel with a delicious bakery on the corner, easy grocery options, cafes and bus /metro stops also close. A quiet garden and easy walking to other nearby sights made it all ideal. Jean-Pierre was a helpful host with many tips to make our stay perfectly enjoyable. This was our first trip to Paris and we felt we barely scratched the surface of all there is to experience but this property afforded us a very memorable stay.

Lovely and comfy pied-a-terre in Montparnasse

First: Jean-Pierre is great: careful and accommodating. He is doing everything to make the "chateau apartment" comfortable. Fully appointed with everything anyone might need for a long or short stay. I have developed my own personal rating system for VRBO, and Jean-Pierre's flat rates a 5/5 score. The kitchen is fully accommodated for anyone to cook any meal. The bed and space in the flat is comfortable. The area is, I think, perfect: a short walk to the metro, which can take you anywhere in Paris you want to be in a short ride, but also not so crowded it is stressful to walk. The kitchen area of the flat is small, but for two people, it was perfect -- more could be accommodated with the futon bed, and that would be okay because you're not going to be spending a lot of time in the flat. We were so comfortable here, and it felt like "living" in Paris. Jean-Pierre has been very thoughtful about making certain that everything in your stay is easy. I would love to return and stay here again and again. I highly recommend this accommodation. We loved our time here. Thank you Jean-Pierre!

Wonderful apartment

What an amazing experience for us. We wanted to stay away from the tourists when we were not doing touristy things and this place was perfect for it. The apartment is quirky but what European apartment doesn’t have its quirks? I loved every moment. The host was completely gracious.

Paris was heaven!

This property was an amazing amalgamation of French neighborhood immersion with French apartment living! We stayed over the holidays and it was so easy to find wonderful neighborhood shops with food and drinks to enjoy each day. There is a bakery on the corner close by that almost made me move to Paris forever! My wife and I really enjoyed hopping on the metro a block away and getting to any destination vvery quickly and easily. J Pierre was a great host and checked in with us quite often ensuring we had a great stay! I highly recommend this small quaint apartment for those seeking a truly French apartment experience. We will stay there again when we come back!

Lovely flat in a lovely neighborhood

We enjoyed our stay in Paris. Although the flat was a distance from attractions, it is in a wonderful neighborhood full of wonderful cafes, markets and boulangerie. The eclairs we had from the shop on the corner were the best we have ever had! Nearby bus stops made transportation convenient, although the oppressive heat while we were there made bus and metro very uncomfortable. Surprisingly, the flat itself was typically comfortable in spite of the heat outside. The courtyards in the complex were lovely and quiet and the local cat was very friendly. Do be aware that the stairs to the unit are steep and spiral up 3 flights. Not easy with luggage, but doable for a reasonably fit person.

A wonderful month in Paris

Jean Pierre's suite was very well appointed and had everything we needed and more. The bookcase full of books was wonderful and the detailed list of suggestions, things to do and how to use the metro was outstanding. We also appreciated him meeting us in person, since he happened to be in Paris at the time. We loved the neighbourhood. The bakery, grocery store, barber and nail salon were so convenient. We used the bus or metro every day and found it very efficient and smooth. Even though we were not located in the centre of the main tourist attractions, this was exactly what we wanted since everything we needed was close by, and we felt that we got a taste of Paris similar to what local residents would experience. We would highly recommend this property to anyone who wants an authentic taste of Paris life.

More French than AR 1-6

We come to Paris often and each time we try a new area. The location in the 14th is home to long-term residents, young and old. There are specialty shops to support residents…poissonneries, fromageries, vendors selling fruits and vegetables… and also cozy neighborhood cafes/ restaurants. The commute to get to art venues and shopping is just a little too far to walk. The subway is convenient to both 4 and 13 lines. The apartment has all the practicalities needed in a compact space. It’s position on an inner courtyard provides tranquility, but a confining vis a vis view. To improve comfort, I would replace the metal chairs at the eating counter. It would be convenient to have a coat stand or hooks at the entryway.

Charming stay in a real neighborhood

Pleasant apartment convenient to both Pernety (Metro Line 13, 2 blocks) and Mouton Duvernet (Metro Line 4, 5 blocks) stops, as well as various bus lines. It is convenient, via transit, to anything you might want to see or do, while being itself away from of the crowds, traffic, and noise. The landlord provides an excellent orientation packet. The streets right around the apartment are small; mostly one lane. The apartment is at the back of a complex, and was entirely quiet. The general neighborhood has plenty of vegetable stands, boulangeries, butcher shops, cafes/restaurants, Asian and Mideastern prepared food shops, a cheese shop, a general grocery and a twice-per-week farmer's market. It is simply, in the best way possible, an ordinary neighborhood. The apartment was clean and everything was in good condition, though not brand new. Kitchen is well equipped, the only drawback being that the eating area is bar-height (tall chairs). King bed is comfortable. Three good-sized windows, and cross-flow ventilation is possible if you open the smaller bathroom window. Space heaters did a great job on colder days. WiFi worked well. We really enjoyed our stay!

Nice Apartment for a very authentic Parisian experience!

We used Jean Pierre's apartment for a month as a “home base” for visiting sights in Paris and some overnight trips to other cities in France. The apartment is on the 3rd floor (2nd floor US) without an elevator of the back building of a locked complex in a "real" French neighborhood. The Pernety metro stop for line 13 is a convenient 5-minute walk from the apartment, and other lines are about 10 to 15 minutes' walk away. Montparnasse is a good location for those wanting an authentic Parisian experience, but it’s also pretty far from most Paris tourist destinations (45+ minutes to walk or 20-30 minutes via metro). Pros: Jean Pierre was a great host who responded quickly to questions and some issues we discovered. He provided us in advance with a “Concierge Book” full of useful information and also helped us determine the best way to get to the airport early in the morning. Overall, the apartment is away from traffic and pretty quiet and had a large comfortable bed. It also has windows in all but the WC (which provides for a nice cross breeze) and has an AC unit in the kitchen. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, pans, various utensils, and a few staples--including a bottle of water and a bottle of wine! The bedroom closet had built-in shelving and drawers that were useful for storing clothes. Although there is no washer/dryer in the apartment, there is a convenient coin-operated laundromat a few doors down the street with fast washers and dryers. The WiFi was great and allowed us to stream shows off a laptop. Everything one would need is a close walk, with an affordable and popular Boulangerie/Patisserie on the corner and a grocery store around the corner (plus more grocery stores, several fruit and vegetable stands, and many affordable restaurants within a 10 min walk). Cons: The "dining area" (a semi-circular countertop next to the kitchen) felt a little awkward, with heavy and uncomfortable wrought-iron chairs that somewhat blocked access to the kitchen and/or across the living room area. Some of the furnishings were “well used”, but granted they may be considered antiques that add to the overall ambience of the apartment. Overall, the apartment would benefit from some general maintenance. We picked the most important issues to have remediated while we were there, but there were several other issues that could use attention. Remediating the maintenance issues would definitely improve our overall rating for the apartment.

Lovely apartment in the Montparnasse area

Pleasant stay in Plaisance

This was a charming place to stay for our first stay in Paris. This unit is small, but has most essentials. It would be tight having 3 or more people in the space. We would have preferred an actual sofa to the trundle bed in the living room space, as the trundle is hard to comfortably sit on, but we spent most of our time exploring the city and neighborhood, and were aware of the trundle vs sofa in advance, so it was fine. The kitchen was well appointed and we were ok with the counter and chairs. The location was great... easy access to the metro, bus etc. The corner boulangerie is amazing! There is a laundry nearby, we didn't use it. The owner was very good about providing digital instructions for checkin and area information. The floors are wooden were squeaky - understandable as it's an older building. Large area rugs might make it warmer and less noisy. All in all, a nice place. Thank you - we enjoyed our stay.

Amazing Apartment & Neighborhood!

Great apartment!! Very quiet and comfortable! There’s everything you would need for a long stay including a fully-equipped kitchen. The neighborhood is wonderful, with a bakery, butcher shop, multiple cafes, markets and laundromat within 100 feet of the front door. And multiple metro stops within 5-10 minutes walk. Jean-Pierre is a tremendous host. Communication was excellent and he met me at arrival and gave a detailed introduction to the apartment. I would definitely stay here again on a future trip. Thank you Jean-Pierre for a memorable trip to Paris!

This apartment is compact but well designed. It is extremely comfortable with very pleasant indoor décor including some period furniture and artworks on the walls. The kitchen is well equipped with oven, microwave, 4-plate cooktop. It is located in the back building looking over a small garden, so there is no traffic noise. There is WiFi, telephone and French TV. It is perfect for one guest, and just right for two. The owner Jean-Pierre was rapidly responsive to Emails. I would be happy to stay here again.

What's there not to like about this place?

I don't even know where to start. It's in a great location, close to various Metro stations and the RER. Lovely and quiet apartment in a delightfully French building with stunning gardens. It comes with a fully-stocked kitchen (regular/convention oven, microwave, razor sharp knives, two cutting boards, two colanders, baking trays). The beds, including the sofa/bed in the LR, are super comfortable. The bathroom is modern and it too is also well-stocked with towels and a drying rack. The place has wonderful cross-ventilation, and I noticed there are also fans in each room as well as heaters. Jean-Pierre is most welcoming and responsive in the event of any questions. He has put together a multi-page guide to the apartment and the neighborhood that answers most of the questions you may have in advance of arrival. Conveniently, he also keeps a copy of the document in the apartment. He has amassed quite the library in a bookcase in the LR that you are welcome to use--every good Paris book I know about was on the shelf, and some I had never seen, but used during my stay, were also good resources. The WiFi is strong and worked well for our iPhones and laptop. I could have stayed a month! It was a perfect place from which to launch in every direction in Paris. This is one of those properties I plan to return to in the future.

Quiet apartment in Paris XIVeme

Apartment was perfect for our getaway trip to Paris. Convenient to Metro, Bus, and RER, grocery stores, and cafés - in a secure courtyard and a very safe neighborhood for walking! There is an amazing boulangerie on the corner - best pain au raisin ever! This is a one-bedroom apt. - great value for the price! The kitchen had everything you could want and markets with fresh produce and meat abound around Paris for aspiring chefs! For those who prefer to eat out, Michelin starred "Cobéa" is a just steps away and "Giulia", a sweet little pizza restaurant, right across the street! Jean Pierre graciously met us at the apartment to show us around. This unit is on the 3rd floor (American) and only accessible by stairs.

Cozy Gem Near Montparnasse

This is our fourth stay in this wonderful apartment. We keep coming back for one simple reason - we love the place. The apartment is conveniently located in a "real" neighborhood, with many shops and restaurants nearby. It is just minutes from the lively Rue Daguerre and the heart of Montparnasse. We walk everywhere in the neighborhood, but there is a bus stop and Metro stop close by. The owner has put together a terrific concierge book, explaining how to get places, where to shop, and descriptions of what the neighborhood has to offer. The apartment has a warm, cozy feeling to it and is perfect for two people. The kitchen is fully equipped, with enough dishes, cookware, and utensils to put together great meals. In fact, on this trip, we ate in every night, taking advantage of the fresh produce and food stalls from nearby open air markets. There are open air markets within walking distance on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. There are also supermarkets, butchers, cheese shops and boulangeries just minutes from the apartment. The kitchen and eating area have become our favorite part of the apartment!! On other visits we have happily sampled some of the neighborhood restaurants, all within walking distance from "home." The rental process was efficient and flawless, with prompt responses to all inquiries, whether by email or telephone. We can't say enough good things about the Rue du Chateau apartment, and can't wait for our next visit!

VERY HAPPY

Where to start? The apartment was immaculate upon arrival. The photos are a true representation. The owners are very responsive. The orchid was a lovely gesture. I've done my best to maintain its beauty! The nautical artwork is wonderful and interesting. Natural and internal lighting is excellent - you can actually see to read - unlike most Paris apartments. The outlook is great with the usual courtyard, but there's more, as you see a lot of sky and get an idea of what the day promises. Absolutely no noise at night, except for the occasional rumble from next door (just keep the bathroom door closed). Kitchen is better equipped than anyone would expect with Limoges china and lots of it + enough cooking equipment and utensils to host a dinner party for eight! The "library" is good too - I don't need Paris books and there's plenty of info, but I did appreciate the few very good novels. I exchanged one for another that I presume is the concept. The neighbourhood ambience is great - this is a local Paris area, not a tourist "must". There are numerous food outlets - super marché, fruit & veg, boucheries, boulangeries etc etc. Montparnasse is close and the 58 bus will get you there in a few minutes if you're not up to the 10 minute walk. I know Paris well and this is without doubt the most comfortable and welcoming apartment I have ever rented. It's small, but lovely. I have a policy of eating out - easy in this area - local resto, Café Losserand opposite Métro (Pernety), has excellent cous cous on Fridays - authentic and cheap. I could go on and on about the benefits of living in Pernety. If you wish to visit the monuments of Paris the 58 bus will take you close to everywhere - le Louvre, Notre Dame, les Halles - and from there its an easy walk to .... I am very happy that I rented 132 rue du Chåteau and have already recommended the apartment to friends. Enjoy your stay as much as I have. Merci beaucoup to Jean-Pierre et George. Finally - I'm called "UNHAPPY" as that was my last review - I am actually VERY HAPPY
