Located within a gated private estate in a stand-alone cottage offers a open floor plan nestled within exceptional gardens, vegetable garden, fruit trees and grand views of the Santa Lucia Mountain Range. Walk to our local Safeway store and neighborhood resturants. 1/4 mile drive to the Folktale Winery, vineyard and events. 3 miles to the award-winning Refuge Spa and Carmel Valley Athletic Club.

Relax and enjoy all the attractions and landscape Monterey County has to offer in a valley setting with fresh air and great views.

The Cottage is minutes from Carmel-By-The Sea (10), Pebble Beach (15), Monterey (20), Monterey Bay Aquarium (25), Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (15), Pacific Grove (25) and Big Sur (45). Numerous local winery tasting rooms can be found in the Carmel Valley area. Nearby Valley restaurants include The Cork Screw, Cafe Rustica, Jefferies Grill, Will's Fargo Steakhouse, Baja Cantina & Grill, and Lucia Restaurant at Bernardus Lodge. Carmel-By-The Sea restaurants abound.

BACKGROUND
In the early 1900's, when the main residence was constructed in an existing pear orchard, Carmel Valley was primarily agricultural. Today, Carmel Valley is dotted with homes, farms, ranches, vineyards shopping and restaurants. In the early 1900's, the property consisted of a Craftman-style main residence and at least four other structures, including the existing barn and a summer kitchen. From the time we acquired the property in 1993, we have worked to restore the property's elements to their original beauty while incorporating modern comforts. The Guest Cottage has been re-purposed from the former summer kitchen structure, retaining the history and charm of California history while offering cozy accommodations in a rural environment.

Beautiful Hamlet

What a wonderful time I had at Rose Cottage in Carmel Valley! Linda and Larry are exceptional hosts and make you feel very welcome. The cottage is perfect for one person or a couple...plenty of space to relax and unwind. Sitting by the oudoor firepit area with a glass of wine, enjoyed other outdoor areas to read a book or just take a nap on a lounge chair in the sun. Would not hesitate recommending this property! I look forward to visiting again in the future.

Elopement Honeymoon Trip

First of all the location and property is gorgeous. The old tree on the lroperty is unbelievable and there are so many flowers and greenery. We were in town for our Elopement and honeymoon vacation and the place was perfect for us. It was perfectly located to see Carmel-By-The-Sea, Monterey, and The Big Sur. I hope to come back again

Relaxation

Cottage is tucked away on beautiful land next to the Main house where owners live. Patio, fireplace, grill. Very relaxing for husband and I. Linda and Larry are wonderful hosts! Cottage is well equipped with everything needed! We enjoyed our stay tremendously.

Great way to visit relatives

This is a beautiful setting located very close to my relatives. The cabin was very comfortable and easy to use. The only problem is there is no mirror over the bathroom sink, making it difficult to shave.

Fantastic little cottage on a very large property!

This was a wonderful property. The owners Linda and Larry are fantastic hosts and invited us to relax with them next to the very large and warm fireplace on the covered patio. They were very respectful of our property as well and we loved the little cottage we stayed in. Just perfect for 2 adults. Very close to the grocery store and other shopping needs as well! I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a calm, peaceful week in the sunbelt of Carmel Valley!

A Fairytale Getaway!!

My husband and I have stayed in some amazing places through VRBO and this stay was another top notch place in lovely Carmel! The cottage is beautifully done with gorgeous views of the valley... it really makes you feel the rustic elegance of Carmel Countryside. It's conveniently located to all great places you will visit in Carmel. Linda and Larry were so warm and welcoming and we will never forget the time they took to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend this cottage for your fairytale getaway to Carmel!

Sweet & charming cottage

We so enjoyed our two-week stay at Rose Cottage. The space, while small, was perfectly adequate for the 2 of us. It was very well appointed and beautifully decorated, located in a lovely environment filled with citrus trees. Linda & Larry were wonderful hosts offering any assistance needed. Charming hosts, cute cottage

This cottage fits the "shabby chic" description perfectly. Larry and Linda, the owners, met us as we drove in, and were warm and welcoming. They were clearly willing to provide any advice and assistance needed to enjoy the property and the area. The one acre property includes Larry and Linda's home, and 2 rentals: a 1 bedroom and a 2 bedroom cottage. This lovely property sits right on Carmel Valley Road. The property and cottages, including a pretty outdoor fireplace seating area and gardens, are charming, if a bit in need of more loving care than they get. Our studio one bedroom cottage was thoughtfully decorated and generously supplied with toiletries etc. It had a queen bed, a small table and seating area, lots of windows. and a kitchen with a full refrigerator, microwave and 2 burner stove. Also it has a cute, tiny fully functional bathroom. Wifi worked perfectly. We stayed in a chilly January and found that the little wall heater was a bit inadequate for distributing heat throughout the cottage. Each cottage has its own outdoor seating area. Given the location on Carmel Valley Road, there was quite a bit of road noise during the day, and pulling out of the steep driveway and onto the main road can be dicey at times but we had no real issues. While I would have liked to have taken some walks, I didn't feel comfortable walking out along the busy road. However, the guests in the 2 bedroom cottage didn't mind the road, and took walks (and runs) from there. The property is at a great central location for going just about everywhere, and is near restaurants and shopping. Bottom line, we enjoyed our stay.

Quintessential Carmel Valley cottage

We had an absolutely lovely experience here! Linda and Larry were wonderful hosts and gave us a lot of great recommendations… The cottage and the surrounding property was beautiful and unique with a very interesting history as our hosts explained. The cottage had everything that we needed to have a fabulous time and was conveniently located. Would definitely recommend!

This charming cottage is rural and secluded, but 15 minutes' drive from everything - Carmel-by-the-Sea village, 17 Mile Drive, Point Lobos Marine Reserve, Fisherman's Wharf, and other great California spots. We had a super time!

A week in Carmel Valley

Oct 2022. This was a great location for us; we were about 6 miles in from Carmel-by-the-sea, so it was easy to drive there for touring, etc. It was nearly always foggy at the coast, but two miles in, the sun is out bright and strong, This location is super close to a nice little shopping center with Safeway, Jeffreys' Grill, and a pizza place. Linda and Larry were very welcoming, and offered us the use of their second cottage for our son and fiancee who were coming to visit; and we used the outdoor fireplace in the evening for a lovely dinner. You hear cows and a rooster nearby.

Loved, loved this place.

Linda and Larry were excellent hosts. Greeted us at the property and showed us around. The cottage was picturesque. A loaded lemon tree just outside the widow of the cottage, fresh tomatoes from Linda's garden. Never once use the key to the door. Secure and quite but with the wonder sounds of local cows and roosters to make you feel you are in the country but you are just minutes away from Carmel by the sea. This is a lovely little cottage to get away from it all but be close to wonder sights, shopping and dinning. I cannot recommend this property and overall location enough. We absolutely loved our time there.

Beautiful and peaceful

Recently retired and looking for a great place to repose for the Monterey Jazz Festival. This place was ideal! Beautiful and peaceful scenery. Cottage engulfed in grape vines, lemon and lime trees and tomatoes outside of the windows, sweeping landscape view, and the owners couldn't have been nicer or more accomidating. Just a great spot!

Wildly charming cottage with lovely hosts.

We adored our stay in this little cottage! It was off the beaten path and offered fantastic views, lots of amenities, several spots to relax and read, AND it was near a grocery store. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well outfitted. The bathroom was very clean and had nice water pressure. Beyond these creature comforts were the surrounding gardens: citrus trees dripping with lemons, tomato plants with ripe fruit, an ancient oak tree, and the scent of eucalyptus and lavender in the air. Also, we had a great breakfast at Jeffery's (around the corner) and a delightful wine tasting at Folktale Winery (just up the road). I can not say enough nice nice things about this property, the ambience, its location, and the hosts (Linda and Larry). We hope to be back very soon.

A lovely cottage with hospitable hosts

The cottage, which is adjacent to the owners’ own house, is very pretty and equipped with all a couple would need. We were encouraged to pick lemons and tomatoes from the garden, and Linda and Larry were generous and engaging hosts. There is a bus stop right outside the house with a 20 minute, $2.50 bus ride into Carmel if you don’t want to drive. Folktales Winery is within walking distance.

Paradise Found!

We absolutely loved the cottage, the views are spectacular and the location is perfect. The property is so charming - like something you would see in a travel magazine. We had wine under the stars by a beautiful fire, visited Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel by the Sea several times, the wineries, all within a short drive. Larry and Linda are gracious hosts with an extensive knowledge of the area.

Dreamy Carmel stay

Linda and Larry were wonderful hosts! The cottage is exactly as described in pictures, even better! The view is dreamy especially in the early morning and at sunset. We enjoyed the privacy and also the fire was an added relaxing perk:) We highly recommend booking this cottage!

Relaxing Retreat

The property was in a beautiful well cared for garden setting. And the cottage was extremely comfortable and bigger than we expected. Our hosts were very helpful and gracious. We loved exploring Carmel Valley and Pacific Grove and Carmel by the sea were just 10-15 minutes away. Highly recommended.

We loved this charming Cottage in Carmel!

My husband and I spent 5 days in this charming cottage, we enjoyed it so much! It is located about 6 miles from downtown Carmel with stunning views of the Carmel Valley. It was peaceful and serene. The bedding was very nice and we slept great. It was well set up for us to enjoy coffee in the morning & prepare a light meal after hiking and sightseeing in the area. We loved watching the fog roll in late in the day. Some of our favorite things to do was walking the Carmel Waterfront Scenic Walkway, hiking Garrapata State Park which is stunning, visiting the local farmers market, doing brunch at the Folktale Winery next door and having some fantastic meals in Carmel. Our hosts Linda and Larry are just the kindest, nicest couple! Their love & pride of the property is apparent through-out. They have a lifetime of history in Carmel and we learned a lot from them. We absolutely hope to return next year. Thank you so much Linda and Larry for your gracious hospitality!

Owners Linda and Larry Wheaton have resided in Carmel Valley since Larry retired from a computer sales and marketing career. Larry grew up in the Monterey area and hiked over the hills separating Monterey and Carmel Valley as a kid. 'I quickly discovered that the best summer time micro-climate on the Peninsula was in Carmel Valley. So when I retired, Carmel Valley was the place we wanted to live'.

Why they chose this property

We purchased our Farm House and out-buildings in Carmel Valley's in 1993 We were drawn to the location because of it's proximity to recreation, mountain views and weather. We have lovingly remodeled, replanted and rebuilt the gardens and updated the out-buildings much the way they were in the 1920's. Our children and grand-children now come here to ride the tractor, pick tomatoes, apples, apricots and otherwise enjoy the clear fresh air. Our guest cottage is the last out-building to be remodeled and is now our vacation rental.

What makes this property unique

Our location is close to Carmel-by-the-Sea but also is just minutes to Monterey Bay Aquarium, Fisherman's Wharf, Pacific Grove and Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Jefferies, our favorite breakfast and lunch hang-out, is two minutes away while the Carmel Valley Coffee Roasting Company is just as close. But the larger Monterey County area is really what attracts people from all over the world. You can relax on our Guest Cottage Patio, resting from a busy day exploring, and in 15 minutes be sitting at the piano bar at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch wondering what to have for dinner.
