We came up for a wedding. It was in a great location. We could avoid 95 traffic and get to most stores and restaurants with little traffic. Plenty of space and unique!
Absolutely loved our stay. The property is close to everything, but out of the way so you feel like you are in the woods. The deck off of the master was absolutely wonderful. We were very lucky that we got to see a Firework show perfectly from the comfort of the house. Would definitely stay again!!
Thoroughly enjoyed property and home; nice easy walks and loved outdoor firepit one evening. The upper deck was perfect for morning coffee. Darling little town to walk around.
This was just a perfect place to stay. I could walk to Occoquan every day in just minutes to go shopping, site seeing and dining. The house was very clean and had everything you could need including a washing machine and dishwasher.
We stayed in Occoquan in the days leading up to a convention in DC. The location was excellent, the town very charming. The house is an older house, which has undergone extensive updates and renovations. There are a few items still to be addressed, but nothing to dampen our stay. We look forward to returning to enjoy nearby kayaking.
My spouse had a training in DC and we decided to make it a family trip. So we brought 4 kids and a fur baby. The place was spacious and comfortable. We did have an accident while staying and the insurance was able to handle the situation. We enjoyed our stay.
Eclectic Furnishings but pretty comfy place. Some of the floors bowed significantly in the family room and upstairs bedroom and the outside looks like it could use some attention.
We enjoyed our stay as the location was great.
I booked this home for my wedding weekend so my bridal party could all get ready together. There was plenty of space with lots of room for everyone to spread out.
My wife and stay at the historic home for wedding. We love our stay and all the nearby attractions and restaurants in historic Occoquan the house cozy and lots of room outside and inside I really enjoy the deck in the master bedroom in the morning just listening to nature, thank you Mr Fred for your hospitality
Family staycation away from home. Family and Friends got together for a relaxation hang out. The house is nuzzled in a small riverfront town with wonderful little shops decorated in Christmas spirit. The house itself beautiful wood molding, spacious living room, and great bedrooms. Thank you so much for hosting us and sharing your wonderful home.
This is a perfect house for a family reunion in Occoquan and more than ample space for 6+, with a spacious upstairs master bedroom with amazing deck and view and two downstairs bedrooms, each with two twin beds. In addition, the spacious family room was the perfect gathering place for the entire extended family in the area.Checking in and out is super easy with the digital lock, and Fred is easily accessible both through VRBO and texting.
Pros: Quite & convenient. Lots of closet space. Spacious. Good kitchen. Cons: MANY non-functional wall switches and lights - poor lighting. MBedRm fan light hanging by electrical wires. Floors dirty. No chests/dressers. Only sham pillows and no top sheets on all beds. "Swamp cooler" (only used in desert climates) in MBedRm - why???? Humidity in 60's. Barely adequate parking for 2 vehicles.
We are from NC and visited with our future daughter-in-law. While in Occoquan we did some shopping and had dinner. We loved the scenic view of the River and the walking path.
With two adult children living in the area, the rest of my family and some local cousins used this house as our base for a few days. We all loved the house, the shady location, short walk to town and the river, picnics on the dock, game nights in the downstairs family room and easy dog walks with our senior pup. The house was perfect!
This cute abode was perfect for our family of four plus our two dogs! Lots of room, very clean, easy access to local restaurants, stores and attractions in Occoquan. We were able to walk to anywhere in downtown within 10 minutes or less.
The master bedroom bed was super comfortable, all bathrooms looked brand new and sparkly clean, washer and dryer access- and a fun quirky floor plan for a get away!
It is a tri-level home with a few stairs so be sure to bring baby gates for older pets or younger kids!
Fred’s home was a perfect spot for our family weekend celebration. Lots of room to enjoy the surrounding woods and wildlife. We saw birds, deer, and a fox when we sat outside. The fire pit was all ready to go but rain cancelled our plans. The tri- level house worked well for our large family Comfy beds, plenty of towels and linens were easily accessible. The trip to town was an easy 5 minute walk from home Thank you for sharing your lovely property Highly recommend.
This was the perfect property for us to visit DC. We like a private quiet space and this provided just that. We have two kids age 12 & 15. They loved it, ps4 provided and good wifi and separate bedrooms. Our dogs loved walking the property with us daily and going down to the historic district for morning walk was relaxing and fun. Property owner was responsive with our questions and helpful. We absolutely loved this place for the price and comfort. We have already talked about coming back for a weekend trip. Thank you!
The property was great. But there was an issue with a leak In the upstairs restroom. When the shower would be turned on in the master room, the water would leak into the living room area which was located under the the master, in the first floor. I contacted the agent about the issue and he only asked me to check again if it was to leak. Upon advising him it was in fact leaking again. I never heard back. And nothing was done to attempt to fix the issue. This made the stay very inconvenient due to only having one shower for 7 ppl who stayed at the residence.
This made us loss valuable time each day on our trip.
I would hope that this issue gets properly fixed before the next occupants stay at the location.
If I would have known there was that issue I would have booked another location. Dealing with a leak from a shower to a living room was not something I was to deal with on my vacation.

Why they chose this property
This property was built by hand by Benjamin McKenzie in 1950s. He was a fighter jet pilot during WWII and later on became a commercial airline pilot after the war. He and his family lived here for many years prior to being purchased by us. Once we purchased this property we completely remodeled the interior but it still has the vintage original feeling and soul with a modern twist. The house has 3 acres of beautiful land that's great for walking and biking.
